So you had a good laugh at us both did you? How nice for you.

Not until after I read your reply in full.  Then I had a short chuckle.

I do admit that I was interested in what reaction I would get, but your vehemence was a mild surprise.  In hindsight, I suppose I should have suspected I'd strike a nerve.

Your idea that our arguments were right, but "we" were wrong, is ridiculous, and meaningless. In addition, to set yourself up as some arbiter that has risen high above us both, now that's prideful. How dare you then proceed to acuse us of pride.

Ridiculous?  Meaningless?  You mean just like this unfounded statement?  I find that understandably ironic.

And, in a sense, I did "rise above" in that I didn't participate in your argument at all.  And I didn't accuse you of pride; pride was attached by a conditional.  So far, you are the only one to accuse anyone of pride.

Oh, and since you started a form of debate by your response, we can call the whole "how dare you" thing the first ad hominim.

It seems you truly do get off on watching people slug it out from afar, like the kid in school that munches food while two guys punch each others guts out. That is also why you have tried to resume this thread even though Serpicus and I ended on good terms, with no hard feelings. It does not surprise me in the least that you inserted a comment at the end waiting gleefully for further unpleasant comments. It's what you wanted. That was the whole point.

Here is where you try to describe my motives, as if you actually knew them, by portraying me as some schoolyard bully.

Not only is this an ad hominim, it's also a strawman.

However, to respond directly to this rather colorful character attack (obviously an argument from pathos; which you should know to avoid by now), I get no perverse satisfaction from manipulating people into anger, none at all.  I didn't start this thread, YOU were the one that armed it with such a provocative (and very... unscientific) title.

And how is it that you become so angry if you ended in good feelings?  Surely you have the self-control not to let a single mostly harmless, albeit admittedly critical, comment on the bloody internet to rattle your cage THAT badly?

I suspect that Serpicus will agree with me on this one. Get down off your self-imposed high horse. You are not our mediator, and we did not exert ourselves for your small amusement. It was never particular enjoyable, but was about seeking the truth about reality. Frankly, I'd rather stand on a plug in my barefeet than continue the debate, and my worthy opponent is now my friend. DO NOT try to alter that.

I didn't comment as a part of some crazy neoconservative-creationist plot to try and drive you and Serp apart.  That is just  ridiculous.  And so what if I'm no authority over the two of you?  What are you insinuating?  Our entire society is based on a highly transparent government on which milliuon of people with no authority comment on EVERY DAY.  How does my lack of authority keep me from voicing my opinion over a simple forum topic?

Look, I have no want or intention of antagonizing you.

I simply hoped you'd be... mature enough to rise above posting emotion-driven character attacks like this.

I'm afraid, Red, that you are equally guilty of ad hominiem character attacks, such as when you referred to me as immature, amongst other things.

Truth is, you never "rose above" the debate by not participating, it was because you either couldn't be bothered, or didn't have the ability to participate. Either way, I simply cannot understand why you resurrected this thread. For all my speculation about your motives, I really don't know why. I still think it's probably because you get some weird kick out of it. My "anger" towards you is justified, and note that it is not directed against my debate opponent, but directed against you.

So contrary to your expectations, Serpicus and I have not and will not carry it on. Sorry to disappoint you. Go read a book or something, please.
