You seem to be getting quite the skills.

You ever thought of just starting your own game company off the bat?

You could take out a lone buy what you need and maybe heir one extra hand.

In case the answer it yes just happened to have some grate ideas lol.

What about a game where you are a ship of any of a number of races the goal would be to star with a small ship a freighter/frigate/scout and to build up you credits ship and races territory.

The difference between the ship type would be their goals to completing victory.

If you pick the freighter you can aether salvage ship debris/gather restores for ship construction to help with other tasks or taide you will be alerted to new tasks that need to be done.

If you chose scout you will be sticky defense and will be responsible for protection and expansion/exploration.

frigate could take one of 2 tracks. ether the fright become a science ship helping to advance available technology's buy doing research and experiments or could become come a stander star ship which helps to get other colony's ally with you and then to join the race letting you build a base their the star ship would all so be responsible for spying stilling tech maps and resources.

The game would be one ship controlled with addition of temporary capture ships.

What do ya think?

If you are asking for just the team's opinion... sorry
...Anywho, this seems to me sort of like a much more complicated version of, I think the name was, privateer. Or maybe it was another game that came out in the mid 90's. By the way I quite liked that game... whatever it was... and if you could develop this idea further it seems like it could go far!

Would it have just a single-player mode or... cooperative.... or??? (3D, 2D... now all sorts of ideas are popping into my head! Cheesy)

Cheers!

My Idea is basted of SFC3 where you would have 2 maps one of the hole galixcy and another of the sector of which your ship is located.

as you build up your credits you would be able to buy other bigger star ships all ships would be customizable restriction being power avalibale to power add ons. The freighter and science ships would be more customizable than other units and more add ons even some for the freighter that could use tech from other races to make them more attractive.

in the game you can ether make your own mission by looking for trouble or do a mission preprogrammed by the developers.this game would be most enjoyable online because other users can play as other ships ether friendly or foe. you can chose when setting up a game to make some races aliys nonaggression pacts- neutral zones or at war.

People could join a game in progress and just pick up where the crater of the game left off.In my idea I wont it so a player can take over a norther race the trick their is keeping control.

It would be 3d like STL.

How would you remedy having some ships being very upgraded at the time of a new player coming in with a basic ship?

Ok... but not to be rude or anything, how will all players be killed: ie whats to stop some players from becoming so powerful they can't be killed (would there be a timeout or something?)

Well, ewm, it certainly seems to be a novel concept, but for the record I'd rather hold off on the future until v3 is out.  Azn

well everyone knows that the FO team mod Armada not mainly just for fun but to recreate a new game of another game in hope to start their own comapny, that has always been their long term goal in my opinion...

They'd have to be careful about forming a company with this mod, because they couldn't sell it as their own without breaching copyright. The FO staff, although highly skilled, are manipulating existing classes from the original A2 programming. Each new ship you see could be considered to be a new instance of a class. Most of the A2 source code is still there underneath, so the real owners would be up in arms (filefront already freaked a little bit about hosting the file due to perceived licence breaches). Presumably you form a company to sell the product, but to sell anything as their own, they'd have to write their own Armada 3 game, in code, from scratch. Most companies employ large teams and spend lots of money to do that. It might be possible to do it with a small team and limited resources, but if they already have day jobs, I imagine it would take a very long time. Just my "two cents" worth...

Well, they could always pay royalties to maddoc and crapivision out of the huge income they'd be making from selling Fleet Ops v? right?

Oh goody, I can see it now. Thousands line up outside walmart and targets and you-name-it-stores across the nation in anticipation!

Yeah, 'tis true, but they should probably also set aside some of their Vast Cash to pay for the legal settlement they'd have to dish out.

Or, better still. code their own game. Wait!! Maybe I'll do it myself. It's gonna be complicated, so I'd best start with something simple.    I know, a Graphical User Interface, like a menu system. Now what skills do I need?

*Opens C++ book*.    Righty. I need to learn about variables, logical operators, control structures, functions, arrays, strings, pointers and exceptions.    It also says here that... it would be good to learn about classes, inheritance, IO streams and the C++ standard library before I even begin. Damn.  Well, it's not all bad. If I study for several hours a day for 15 years I might even be able to learn Direct X and 3D game programming. Life is short, do here I go!!!
