Amazing. Sometimes we need reminding just how small we are. As another example, have a look at this for a new sense of scale:

That video reminds me of "the powers of ten vid" we had in an astronomy class I took.

Has anyone read the complete Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? Anywho, if you have you'll understand what I mean when I say the Universe as extrapolated from a piece of fairly cake (total perspective vortex). (To those who have not read this, in my opinion it's quite good; so share and enjoy!)

Poor Pluto indeed, but we musn't feel so sorry about a planitoid which can't even clear its own orbit! (Pish, Posh, who cares that Earth has the moon...)

Just found this video; I was left feeling very sorry for Pluto by the end of it. You'll need to scroll down a little once the page loads because the vid will have already started I think. It's only about a minute long:

The gaming world is falling apart, its being taken too seriously, I mean its just a game, nothing to be going nutso about. Someone needs to take action on this. We need to stop this. Its making online gaming very dangerous and not fun.

27 August 2006 – The International Astronomical Union redefined the term "planet", reclassifying Pluto as a dwarf planet.

The Reasons:
1. The object must be in orbit around the Sun.
2. The object must be massive enough to be a sphere by its own gravitational force. More specifically, its own gravity should pull it into a shape of hydrostatic equilibrium.
3. It must have cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit.

One moment of silence in honour of Pluto.

The evidence must have stacked against the poor little planetoid in the end. Poor Pluto. Presumably it's not spherical enough, and it does have a dodgy orbit, all skewiff and all over the place.

Actually, i just thought!  Earth isn't a perfect sphere either, but an "oblate spheroid" (whatever that means, slightly flattened at the poles I think). They must mean that the planet's own gravitational field should be strong enough to makes its surface relatively smooth. I wonder what Pluto looks like up close?

I'm planning to go there for my 65th birthday, so you're all welcome to hop along for the ride if you want

Actually I've been there a couple of times and it's not anything special. Nothing to do out there except fling kuiper belt objects at the eart.... I mean.... errr

Anyway I should be going now.

Aha!!  Shocked  So it's you then! I knew someone was responsible. It was only a matter of time before we found out. One should exercise caution, lest one causes an Extinction Level Event...
