Patch 1.2 coming soon!

The Star Trek: Armada II Patch 1.2 Project is an unofficial patch made by the developers of the Fleet Operations total conversion for Star Trek Armada II.

What is it?
It is meant as a patch for every Armada II installation, despite of it is stock or has been modded. It patches serveral bugs that were not fixed with the latest official 2002 release of Patch 1.1. More and more reports of people not being able to play Armada 2 coming up as today people are using much more enhanced software and hardware than 5 years ago. The developers of Armada 2 targeted Windows 98 and partly Windows 2000 as plattform.

What is it not?
The patch project does not provide new textures sounds or anything else that is related to change the game experience. Patch 1.2 is fully backwards compatible with Armada 2 Patch 1.1. That means, you will be able to play together with people still using patch 1.1

What does it do?
Some of the most "popular" bugs patched are:
  • "Sorry, there is not enough memory to continue"- screen for people using more than 2gb of ram
  • Crash to desktop right after splash screen related to an stack overflow
  • Multiplayer/Online crash with Vista (could fix Wine multiplayer issues too. To be confirmed).
Features
  • An enhanced exception catching engine. The new patch makes Armada using madExcept by madshi as new exception handler which allowes you to send us extended debug info to us when a crash occuors on your computer related to Armada which we can fix for new releases of the Patch 1.2 Project.

Is that all?
No, it isn't. The first releases of Patch 1.2 are intended for bug fixing only. Later version will feature full widescreen support and new enhancements for mod developers.

Who should install Patch 1.2?
Everyone playing Star Trek Armada II. Fleet Operations players do not require to install this patch. An enhanced version of that patch is included in Fleet Operations 3.0 final.

When will it be available?
Available now from our downloads section

I feel like a litel kid in a candy store every time I look at the forum.

How is this patch work? dose it change the sores code or is it a upgrade of the textchers and other primary components of A2?

lol, if he told you that ewm90 he'd have to kill you. (he probably used a decompiller Tongue but you didn't hear that from me)

On the behalf of the very much alive "A2 community beyond fleetops" we are very excited at the prospect of a new patch in this regard, modders have always been restricted to what we can do. Sure we can sort out some of the balence problems and such but there are still ceilings that we keep crashing into and we are simply unable to totally remove the bugs in the game.

Well, that would be then something around 2028. Let me guess: FO V9 will get a total redo and instead of V10 we will get Star Trek Fleet Operations 1.0 on DVD for incredible cheap 49,90 Euro. And it will never have to be patched because it will be simply perfect and Doca, Optec and the others will get stinky rich and earn all awards you can earn.
2028.. uhm.. and for me that will be telling my children about the very beginning of FO and that we all were part of it right from the start.

...or whatever.

Perhaps MadDoc releases the code some day earlier then 2028. I don't know if they still have benefits from keeping it secret.

hmm I saw on the the a2files site that this patch will be in the FO v3. So will you be releasing FO and the patch at the same time or will you be letting the patch out first then FO v3? Just curious.

will the 1.2 patch include the specialized race specific color shields? ie feds = blue, klings/roms = green, dom = purple, cards = yellow, borg = none? and will they be automatically applied or will we have to use the shieldgeometry entry in the weapon odfs? Thanx for helping us normal/modded A2 users out Doca..by helping releasing some cool secrets you make guys like me wanna play FOv3 even moreso..perhaps at some point you may consider letting people use certain models for their own mods..not right now i understand..but maybe sometime later? And also..i know this isn't the place for it..but I still would like to see the option of having the attack patterns like cloverleaf, circle, up/down. as thats one of the coolest features of Armada 2...thanks man...later.

no, it won't. that's up to the modders. you will get a new command for vessels called "ShieldHit", that can be used in every vessel or station odf like
Code:
ShieldHit = "mynewshield.sod"

but that is not for the first version released. i want the first release to be 100 percent stable and then the following ones with new features.
