I must update that, sorry. I now (for the past 2 weeks) have NO trouble using fleet ops on my vista computer. I just re-re-ported it and did everything the team said to do. It now works, Huzzzah. I suggest you go the same route (hopefully it will work too!!)!!

Hi I'm still having difficulties loading UP Fleetops after reading the previous posts.
I followed the instruction as precisely as I could yet the "bug error" still pops up everytime I try to load it on Vista.
So this is what I did 3 times now, so please forgive me if i did something stupid in the process... xD
1] Downloaded the FOSetup3PR and downloaded the VM Program 2] Installed XP onto the VM program [no problem] then activated the setup files [FOSetup3PR] with the Armada II CD 3] Copy the entire directory of Activision folder from XP VM and replace it with my old Activision folder on Vista 4] Downloaded the following patchs; fleetopsmultimedia1, FleetOps3PRPatch1, and update [from the first post] 5] I activated the setup program with FleetOps3PR Patch 1 and installed it succefully on PC 6] Installed fleetopsmultimedia1 but Vista informed me that the program was install improperly, so I reinstalled it again no problems 7] Deleted the FleetOps.map and then extracted the update files to directory 8] Ran the application; BUG pops up!
The only thing i didn't understand is where can I get or extract the FleetOps.exe and FleetOps.mad files to place in my directory ...? Was that the files in the update pack..?
OR should i jsut report this bug to Microsoft and see how they can deal with it...?
Thanks in advance.

The files are available on the first page of this thread under the first poster as a zip I believe.

where did you put the game when you moved it to Vista? if you stuck it in program files and aren't auto admin escalating then yes it will crash everytime because of UAC...
i have my Flops folder on my desktop, works just fine as UAC ignores it, try that...

Basically I put it in the Activation folder after initially installating Star Trek Armada II. After i installed the FLEETOPS onto the VM; XP; and copy it on the shared folder between my VM and my Original OS; Vista.
Copy the entire folder; Star Trek Armada II Fleet Operations File Folder Pasted it into the Activation file folder along side with Star Trek Armada II File Folder Installed the FO3PRPatch1, then the multimedia pack --> and then deleted the FleetOps.map --> then installed the "update.rar" file from the First post and pasted it into Star Trek Armada II File Fleet Operations Folder
Try running the Fleetops.exe file but a bug pops up! and the application fails to load and I don' know what UAC but i wll find out. [I ran the Fleetops.exe file within the STAII Fleet Operation File Folder]
So yeah, this is basically what I did to install the game on Vista... [I hate vista.. =(]

Installer runs without error in safe mode.... but you still get the error at start-up hopefilly this patch will fix things... emulating XP just for an install is ridiculous... if these files need to install and then be copied why not offer the files on the site instead of require tedious messing around with OS emulation...
UPDATE: Works flawlessly by replacing these three files found in the zip.... so install in safe mode and replace the files... completly functioning in Vista....

Capt. Ryan, I am new to the forums, but have been a member for a while now. I was just reading the problem encountered by Getready2die regarding the Klingon Attack Probes on the Bortas vessel, as I have encountered the same issue myself. I read your reply, stating, "thats a known bug, fixed in the patch i believe." What patch were you referring to? The V3PR Patch 1?

I don't think it has actually been fixed for V3 PR (I always encounter it). However, for the full V3 the bug is said to be banished

I can also confirm that this worked flawlessly. Boot to safe mode (tap f8 during boot) install fleet ops/patch/media replaced the 2 files And then you can boot like normal and it works np. (i installed to a folder on my desktop)
