My view was that, in my genius, I would build slowly and methodically, gradually building a formidable fleet with versatile and wide-ranging capability and galactic projection power. However, the usual outcome is me getting my ass kicked early on, usually by a small fleet of Sabers or equivalent. The enemy usually encounters little resistance from myself, since at that stage I usually have about 25 dilithium and latinum freighters, defended by a pathetic military task force that couldn't blast meteors out of their way. Maybe it's time for the Doctor to re-evaluate his strategy in the hope of actually winning

Maybe if we charged the dilithium with anti-protons, set the fuse, walked away, covered our ears and waited ten seconds we could initiate a comic BOOM! of inconceivable greatness. That'll teach those Romulans, hey?

This is reminicent of something I had done to me once playing the original Star Trek:Armada. I was a newbie and someone used a very modified map. The guy opened several black holes and vaporised my whole fleet. No strategy involved at all I willl have my revenge

I usually build up my fleet until they attack, then I strike back. Pretty nice huh

The gaming world is falling apart, its being taken too seriously, I mean its just a game, nothing to be going nutso about. Someone needs to take action on this. We need to stop this. Its making online gaming very dangerous and not fun.

borg will be really good. especially with the return of crew. those asimilators will lokk that much more deadly
Eh? the crew counter is coming back? (Is not sure what this means) It really depends what race I play as, and what race I play against due to the different tech tree. It also of course, depends on the map, to allow for minor adjustments. For the most part, though, I'll first make mines, then collectors, then work on some ships, eventually, I'll get to turrets (Or mining a wormhole, depending on the map). Once that is done, I'll work up a fleet to attack. (I like longish games sometimes, and to ensure my base is defended if the ships are gone, at least long enough until more ships can be constructed/current ones recalled back to base.)

I play the Feds with Ghost's Compilation Mod and use a set of phases for strategy. I primarily focus on building a large assault fleet and on research last.
Phase 1: Economy
1. Build mining facilities for metal and dilithium 2. Scout for an infinite dilithium moon 3. Build a trading station 4. As soon as the mining station comes online, buy 4 freighters to mine infinite dilithium, and 1 or 2 for latinum
Phase 2: Defense
1. Build a few phaser turrets around home base and mining stations to deter minor incursions 2. Build a San Francisco Class shipyard and Algol Class Shipyard 3. Build more than a few defiant classes to guard freighters and mining facilites 4. Build Blue Ridge Class research to get photon turrets 5. Use hit and run tactics to weaken enemy economy
Phase 3: Fleet Phase(build ships like the Federation did in DS9, it is productive and cost effective)
1. Start building Miranda Class, cheap run of the mill ship 2. Build Sacramento Class Shipyard 3. Start building Excelsior Class, a good medium power cruiser 4. Build McKinley Class Shipyard 5. Build Sirius Class and Mars Class Research Stations 6. Start building Galaxy Class, well armed and have a large crew compliment
Phase 4: Colonization and Research
1. Colonize a planet for more crew 2. Begin research for special weapons 3. Build ships with special weapons
Phase 5: Assault
1. Fill out the fleet with Galaxy Refits 2. Attack enemy colonies to compromise crew count 3. Attack freighters, mining stations, and trading stations to de-stabilize enemy economy 4. Attack Shipyards 5. Go in for the kill and attack the Starbase

First try the opponent out at the beginning with some destroyers and try to destroy as much as u can. If you see your causing him problems just continue with the strategy. If not, try out different things, basically adapt to his/hers strategy. Usually though the game is decided early on, so it pays to try really hard in that particular game time In team v team its all down to organisation of the players that play together. So basically the more you know your ally, the better you will play. It also helps to know your enemy BTW: detection grid is a necessity in MP games Intelligence is important
