Hi there Todays newspost is about a larger change of the possibilities to defend your bases in v3. We took a closer look to how defence stations, platforms and turrets worked in the PR and decided to give them a little more depth. Therefore most races got a redo of their turrets with individual changes. The Federation, for example, does now construct a basic Platform instead of turrets or sensor stations. This Platform does then contain mutliple construction options to be extended into a Defence Platform or a Sensor Station. A new "Phaser Platform", a early-game medium range turret made it into the game this way, too. "You have entered Federation space!"Other races will of course feature different turret systems. Romulan turrets may now cloak, making the Cloaking Generator a little more attractive and Klingon have been sighted to put more and more armor plates on their stations.

Nice idea, but will you be able to build it instantly to a certain upgrade, because it tents to be annoying if you build a lot of turrets and you have to upgrade them all. Off course you had too build a prototype first.

Wow. This looks good. However, Krael has a point. Won't it be a bit annoying to upgrade? You have to keep in mind that the player is busy mircoing as well.

that sounds great. and yeah i to have to agree resurching the new options would stink. but if they were tied to something else. like you get photon turrets at level two weapons.

Looks great. I too worry a bit about having to go through each turret as I build turrets and then upgrade them. I hope the upgrade is either instanteous, or the build times have been balanced so that it works out. But I'm sure you guys have already looked into this in terms of balancing. And btw, I like the light blue behind the wireframe image. Gives it a nice look to it.

Maybe upgrades for turrets will cost enough that you're only likely to upgrade a few every once in a while.
Oh, and why would long build times make things more difficult? You still just click on a button when you want to upgrade either way.

Sounds like a neat idea. Fed sorta reminds me of the component towers off of Tiberian sun (ah the memories ). I'm guessing Admrail Mayson will have an additional "Torpedo turret" upgrade option instead of the old standalone turret. I certainly look foward to seeing them have more of a role; i couldn't help but think they were too weak in 3PR (they even struggled with the basic destroyers). Out of interest, will the Borg have an Auto Assimilator or Holding Beam turret? Krael did make a very good point though; it might be annoying for a Fed player to have to go back and upgrade the turrets one by one while everyone else can just tell it to build and then leave it. I don't know what to suggest except maybe making the pulse phaser turret the basic platform, and then having the upgrades replace that instead of a basic platform.

Is there a way to be able to select more than one turret and upgrade it?

Yeah, like the Romulan ships. And many other kinds of turrets in many other games.
