First of all: Has anyone ever played the console PS game Star Trek: Invasion???

Its a great first person simulator game with a radical notion of placing starfighters inside the Star Trek universe.  The Federation, the Klingons, the Romulans, the Cardassians, and the Borg all have their version of fighter craft.  The Federation also has a carrier craft that can be docked to the bottom of a Sovereign-class vessel.  The fighters are called Valkyries, and come in 3 variants (interceptor, medium attack, and heavy assault).  The craft was called the U.S.S. Typhon and was commanded by none other than our favorite Klingon, Lt. Commander Worf.  The game surrounds you fighting off a new aggressor race called the Kam'Jahtae or the Hurq.

I was just wondering whether there would be models fo Typhon-class carriers and Valkyrie starfighters for any future beta versions.  Starfighters would greatly supplement the firepower from a Galaxy or a Sovereign.

well i don't want to put fighters fpr one of the existing races, cause never in startrek there appear a fighter craft.. ok you can see jem'hadar destroyer or b'rels as fighters, but they are far mor powerful then a "shuttlecraft" fighter.
but, as always, there will be non player races which have fighters. for example the hydrian kingdom (Known from str fleet command) or the eridians (which were planed to be the 8th player race before the dominion replaced them) have fighters. you will be ablte to assimilate or boeard them or, more easily, simply hire them at a mercenary store Smiley but you will have to wait for beta 3 to have fun with np races Smiley

yea, i know that game and already have taken a look over the models available in this game (optec and me already talked about integrating fighter) but they would just distort the game balance - you know, cheap but powerful - and optec has found the right way for the fighters, as said the npc races, so if your are lucky enough you can overtake a non player race yard or whatever and build these ships. this way it will be more strategic (try to overtake the base to get a new aspect of vessels to build).

i think these fighters are a bit larger then a one-man-fighter craft, aren't they?

Hmm, perhaps you can make a special weapon that will launch fighters? Like make a sod of a group of fighters and have them fire litle phasers or something? You could have the Typhon Class in there, but It would create a naming conflict with the Construction ships...Wink

maybe the feds get a fighter carrier later, but not as a buildable ship but as a map object, fighters are not planned to be integrated in the federation techtree.

oh, and btw. is that the fighter you are looking for? Smiley

mh, ok a "non player" federation carrier should be ok

yep, the fighters won't be selectable as a single ship, they will be a special weapon.. well in case of a carrier it will automaticaly launch fighters which will fly arround the target and fire till it is gone.. or the carrier is  Smiley

LOL...yup a Protoss carrier-type of ship would be awesome to add to the Fed tech tree, although the other races would have to have an effective countermeasure...Zerg Mutalisks or Scourge anyone??  Tongue  Haha!  Anyways..Doca that is the fighter model I was talking about!  That model is of the first basic Stock variant.  There are 2 more modified models.

Yea, right *maybe* the other races get fighter ships as non buildable ships but for map placement eventually.

Hmm, this could add a whole nother dimension to Trek ware fare. If you use carriers, they need support. Escorts, long range artillery, supply ships, etc.

It would be more real world combat that way. But that's not Trek...Wink

Preferrably, the carriers would be a form of artillery, launching fighters ahead of them to attack/harrs targets. Then the enemy fighters come in...You get the idea. Cheesy

if there will be carriers they will be NON BUILDABLE ships Smiley
which means you can perhaps get them to....
-find a single wrackage on the map
-board them from a NP player
-hire them at a merchant (what will cost credits)

what means it is quite difficult to get a carrier, and you won't have a fleet of carriers but one or two and only on a few maps, so it won't disturb the star trek feeling but add a few interesting aspects to severel maps and make them more individual Smiley
