As we are heavily working on the final Fleet Operations 3.0 release we are implementing a few new features for you to play with as well. One of them I dont want to show you here.

Mixed Technology
Ever found it strange to build up a whole alien base after capturing just a little constructor? Romulans building Klingon starbases and vessels? Not very believable, hu? Yep, we thought so, too.
Thats why you will no longer be able to access the techtree of an alien race by capturing a constructor. But in exchange you can use this captured constructor to build a special experimental yard where you can get unique modifications and refits of your own units using the technology of the captured race.

A Federation Experimental Yard

While this sounds rather simple the possibilities you get through are rather interesseting. The Federation for example will finally get the cloaking device for the Defiant if capturing Romulans - something many fans asked us to implement. Burst-fire torpedos for the Romulans, a Vorcha Class with an empowered Disruptor using Federation phaser technology, Anti Matter Mines and much more are waiting to be tested out.
Some race combinations will not only end in a hand full of interessting unit refits but even in complete new vessel designs. The Klingons, for example, will be able to build the E'Djen - a modern high-tech version of the B'rel - after gathering some Federation technology. These new units will also bring even more new special abilities with them. Like a special EM Mine in this case.
The popular Dominion Dreadnought will also be available through this way with special refits depending on the captured race.

With Federation Technology the Romulans may access new torpedos

While capturing constructors and technology as described above is already an complete new feature to Fleet Operations the Mixed Tech feature does include one more thing - exspecially important in multi-player:
Technology Trade! You can now research a special Technology Trade which will allow you to build up an extended Technology Cargo refit of your construction vessel. This Technology Cargo stores all technological basics of your race. You can simply send it to an ally to allow him or her to build the Experimental Yard for your race granting access to all mixed tech features just as if he or she would have captured a constructor of your race.
This may lead to complete new strategies in multiplayer forming interessting teams between the different races to support your playstile. Now strategy beginns with chosing your team's races!

A peaceful technology exchange

Happy Capturing!  cheesy
