i got a copy of the beta vista, i'v had it for bout six months but have bothered installing it cos it looks just like a mod for xp, i'll wait for the real vista to come out, then wait a year for most of the major bugs to get fixed. btw The xp i'v got is sp1, sp2 just seemed to screen with too many things and i find i can run more on sp1.

i tried one of the older vista builds (like 2 month ago) but for my taste it used quite a lot ram after a fresh install (around 700mb) and many too much processes were already running in taskmanager..

I think the reason why so many are now using XP is: 1. Many got new PCs. 2. There were many games that didn't run under ME or 98 anymore. I bought XP for my old comp just because of Battle for Middle-Earth.

Running 1 PC XP Pro SP2 and another Vista Beta which is surprisingly stable if a little... unfinished lol. With a lot of companies now stopping support for windows 9x including driver updates and such most people have now upgraded to xp and better pc specs have also helped this. To be honest I think 9x support could be easily dropped with little or no people effected. As for Vista being a mod of XP, do a little research first. Windows XP was basically a big patch to windows 2000. However vista is a completely new build, yes some code will have obviously be reused but the majority of it has been rewritten, the reason it may look similar to xp is coz its suppost to. If microsoft suddenly decided to completely redesign the ui get rid of the start menu and taskbar etc. the standard computer user with little/no technical knowlwdge wouldn't like it as it would be unfamiliar. To be specific its actually Windows 6.0 Personally I'll upgrade my gaming rig to vista on release day as I get it free from my university.

yes, true 2k was quite similar to xp, but xp was the first nt kernel based os that was thought for home pc's.. that's why many skipped 2000 and took xp then i think.
the average joe will switch to vista for it's eye candy and not because of (the now i say many cut-back) 'hidden' features vista has to offer.
I'm not going to switch to vista until it's final. still vista has nice features but compared to those i saw between windows 98 and windows 2000, vista not so impressive anymore.

Cos it's almost a certanty that vister like all other window befoer it will be plaged with bugs in the early stages, (first 6 months). So if i wait a year, then hopfully even move bugs will have been fixed I agree with that, only reason I'm gonna upgrade gaming rig is coz of vista only titles... *beats microsoft with stick*. Gonna leave my work PC with XP Pro, works best for that and is nice and stable now.

I'm running it on XP even though I have Vista on another partition. I've found most games don't like to run well on Vista. Like Rome: Total War lags like a 56k demon on Vista but goes over nice and smooth on XP.

Well I tried vista a few days ago, but it doesn't run fleet operations. I removed vista pretty quick though, it wasn't working real good with some programs.
