If I attempt to run the normal game (FleetOps.exe) and it goes straight to the play screen, only there aren't any ships, stations...and the entire map is greyed out (since 1. I don't have any units to see with and 2. I haven't picked a map yet)

But when I attempt to run the map editor, it fires up the real game, with the intros, and everything works.

Now that wouldn't be a technical problem if I was wondering how to get the map editor working...X___X

Still doesn't work. I reinstalled it and now I can't run it at all (since I disabled the map editor in the setup menu)

yes ... so you use the original Mapeditor.exe (i dont know how its named ...) for starting fleetops .. the renaming is just for the desktoplinks ...

Sorry, but I'm a little confused. Switch the names so that Mapeditor.exe is FleetOps.exe and vice versa?

yes ... this should make the desktoplink work correctly ...

because :

when you click on the Mapeditor.exe --> Fleetops starts in Play mode

and

when you click the Fleetops.exe --> the Mapeditor of Fleetops Starts

ergo ...

the desktoplink links to Fleetops.exe --> Mapeditor is starting (because of this mixture of the files)

afterwards this should be fixed ... (the files are just named wrong ...)

this never happened to my one, i dont think it has happened all that much so there aint anything to fix. besides would you rather the devs be allowed to continue working on V3 rather than bother about mixed up files in SOME of the V2 d/ls?

I switched the names to no effect. Just so you know I switched them out of the root folder, renaming FleetOps.exe to MapEdit.exe and vice versa.

that is strange ... it seems to be an individual problem i experienced rather late ... at about the 20th time installing ... and the solution seems to be very difficult ... mine worked fine after renaming it ...

sorry so i cant help you ... perhaps you should ask one of the fo team ...
