Why is it in the Armada games the akira class never has torpedos when it was the first federation ship to use torpedos as a primary weapon instead of phasers?

i also thought that was wierd. it was the test-bed for the sov's torpedo turret, that was the reason that ship was created, and to not have it firing torpedos seems kind of stupid to me. IMHO

I ask that question all the time, I mean the one truely dedicated torpedo boat, and no torpedoes, but phasers  LOL

yeah, i think it will get torpedoes as part of a specific avatar, but if you ask me i reckon that the Akira and Intrepids weapons should be swapped around, & the avatar boast the power of the akira torps & unlock torps for the intrepid instead  Smiley .

For balancings sake i think its best as is it, may not be realistic... but it stops the feds being able to get super heavy warships midway through the game (compared to civs like the rommies and borg who need a fair while longer), if you did make the akira as good as it should be then you'd have to restructure the entire fed techtree and adjust the other civs techtrees to keep the balance there.

Just not worth the work, and tbh the PDF makes up for the lack of torps.

er.. no not really since i just suggested that you switch the weapons of the intrepid over to the Akira & vice-versa. no rebalancing would be needed since those weapons would already have been there.

In Beta 3, Akiras will have torpedos if you pick a certain avatar.

Also, I agree that the weapons should be swiched around.  In Beta 2, the Intrepid is stonger and larger than the Akira. That MUST STOP.  The Akira is not only 100 meters longer, but is also much, much, MUCH better armed than the sissy Intrepid

The akira was the second true torpedo cruiser after the New Orleans Class which first tested quantum torpedoes. It is a  little silly that in FO it doesn't have torps.

I loved the Akira's cool little torpedo launcher inbetween the nacells(did i spell nacell right?) now it just seems pointless...and i wanted to ask, but if you think this would be too difficult disregard it, would it be possible to make the use of quantum torpedos like a special weapon(that doesn't use any energy)on some ships? i always liked the ability on bridge commander to switch between the two on the Akira and Sovs.

http://armada2.filefront.com/file/Admirals_Sovereign;13714 inside this ship is a weapon like the one your suggesting, it appears as a 4 round burst of quantums. i use it on my sovies (which i arm normally with photons & have this as its quantum backup). i figured out how to use the weapon on its own so im sure you can too Wink .

note: this is NOT for Fleet ops.

Hmmmmm, blaancing points if you gave it the proper armament of weapons:
1) Longer build time slightly
2) Torpedoes = resources
3) HULL! It didn't exactly have the strongest hull of some of the ships did it?
