That if the episode is actually DS9, "The Emissary" It is the USS Melborne, the excelscior class starship that recieves a cescarian section of sorts from the cube with its cutting beam. Smiley

HOWEVER, if you are talking of the reckage field in "The best of Both worlds Part II" Shelby stands by Picard and says, "The tolstoy, The kyushu, the melborne." So therefore it was the Tolstoy, Neworleans class frigate.

That New Orleans was the Kyushu, not the Tolstoy. So right name, wrong class :-)

you know there is more than 1 ship in each class, perhaps the tolstoy was another new orleans class ship.

you got me there

---edit
it was Will Decker. i feel like a moron now, but i guess some times a son is given his fathers name and jr. at the end of it. glad i was never that unlucky

the tolstoy was rigel class (and it wasn't shown), the Kyushu was the new orleans (the first ship shown), and the melbourne was excelsior (outside the cone of vision).

rigel class ships look like miranda class ships with the torpedo/sensor modual removed, and a "cannon" of sorts on the underside (between the nacelles). the saratoga class is like a miranda too with the torpedo/sensor thingy removed; and nothing else done to it, seen in STIV the voyage home.

I asked for the class not the name, so he was right.
