A long range explorer ship is also 9/10 well armed as it is going far away from any reinforcements. Also an intrepid class was admiral ross' flag ship and was used by director slone so it can't be that bad. I personally would still take a sovereign. I'm sorry but I just don't believe that an Admiral would choose a small, weakly shielded ship for his flag. Maybe I missed something but I never remember that happening. I'm almost sure he was in a galaxy (or at least a bridge that looked like a galaxy bridge, because that's the only time we saw his ship I think, reference the advance on cardassia episodes) Besides, an intrepid is NOT heavily armed, far from it. Two 2nd class photon tubes and type VII phaser arrays? That is barely enough to scratch the paint on most warships.

Haha Riker found it hard to beat the Sona ... besides, they weren't trying to destroy them but to pacify them, neutralize the threat, whatever. It's like police using stun guns instead of shotguns, not nearly as effective, but more humane or something.
When a sovereign or galaxy wants to fight, it kills.

When a sovereign or galaxy wants to fight, it kills. Well it depends who the enemy is

Black Baron: I agree...it depends on the operation. For frontal, battle-wing sized engagements, I'd choose either the Achillies-Class, Phalanx-Class or similar profile vessel (i.e. Prometheus-Class). For discretion in coping with matters pertaining to the Temporal Prime Directive / Temporal Cold War & Elite Force / Maquis-like "hit-&-run", dog-fighting, covert-op's missions...I'd ~ALWAYS~ pick the Xenon-Class version of the Defiant-Class. Inside heavy battle, i'd prefer to be on the defiant, but normally i'd like the akira, (it is just such a kick@ss design ) @Hellgate, what is a Xenon class? i thought we were talking about cannon ships here

What about the Oberth Class? Don't see that around anymore.

I think the Oberth would be neat, it's just weak as **** so it would have to have some other purpose.
