No kidding. Besides, if I remember properly the Defiant was one of the last ships standing fighting that cube in First Contact. It was dodging lots of those tractor beam things, something that a larger ship most definitely cannot do. Between getting missed a lot and all that lovely ablative armor, it seems like a very nice place to be in the middle of a fleet engagement.
In a startrek book (can't rember name) I read it had the story of the whole battle from the point of view of a ambassador class ship which says the defiant was heavily damaged and that the ambassador class had only stuffered a minior damge even though it was the only ship attacking a certain side of the cube and was taking heavy fire.

Also how much damage did the Enterprise take in that battle it wasn't even hit though admitedly it wasn't there that long.

well i find the whole dodging phasers things a bit weird, i mean if it was a pulse phaser then i can understand it can dodge but phaser beams can't be dodged as they lock on the target and i don't see a defiand defeating an ambassador that quickly

exactly and if you include the fact that the borg use tractor beams as weapons the entire defiant would be ripped away rather than just a section! A sovereign would trash a defiant and in first contact the enterprise trashes a borg sphere single handedly the defiant could never do that.

a computer lock-on isn't a... ...um, for lack of a better word deadlock. anyone who has seen a startrek battle knows that (on tv or in the movies atleast).

the best type of federation starship is the interepid as it is sooooo coool
followed closely by the nova class
voyager is the best federation ship and it could take the e-e and the defiant on its bill

lol how many times was voyager troubled or captured by the .... wait for it..... kazon  LOL  LOL  LOL
now you say it can take on & beat 2 of starfleets most powerful ships....  LOL

@admiralryan, there is a big difference between the sphere Ent-E faced & the ones in voyager. i think the 1 in first contact was more of a life boat, than a standalone vessel

Yeah there's no way that was a standard sphere ... if a sphere can be defeated by 4 quantums (I think it was 4 anyway) then that cube should have been blasted into little pieces long before the EE ever got to Earth.

Actually I feel the need to respond to the Ambassador class thing ... those ships are only nominally more survivable than a standard excelsior (though with much better weapons) and in DS9 the Defiant rocked the Lakota, which is considerably more survivable than a stock Ambassador ... so in a fight between Ambassador and Defiant it would come down to who could knock out the other's weapons faster, and since the Defiant can surely take much more of a beating, especially from energy weapons, while dodging most of the torpedos that come its way ... I'm betting the Ambassador won't last too long.

There is a reason those things aren't in commission anymore after all.

No the Lakota didn't win because she wasen't trying to destroy the Defiant, she was trying to disable her and not using all her weapons. And no she wasen't 'rocked'. The Lakota could take that overpowered little ship anyday.

Yes they are still in commission, where did you hear that?

I agree with you, and many Voyager episodes referenced the ship's considerable strength

The intrepid isn't the most powerfull ship, i can't believe it. It looked powerfull but that is mainly due to the alien tech

I really like the design of the Norway class ship followed by the Akira. One thing about the Intrepid though, and it seems to be the only ship to have it, Blue Alert. What is that?

Blue alert (also code blue or condition blue) is an alert signal status on Starfleet starships and outposts which is called for in exceptional situations, ranging from environmental hazards to the crew, to docking and separation maneuvers and landing protocols, for ships with the capability.

In the event of an imminent environmental systems failure or disruption, blue alert is called in order to help affected personnel escape or safeguard their lives

it is from Memory Alpha database

but i think there where more weird statuses besides blue, red, green and yellow. wasn't there a grey aswell? and ofcourse the omega one
