I really like the idea of remodulating/reversing your enemy's shields ... would be good for the iconians or ciadan, one of the more nonstandard races. Don't know if it's technically possible with A2 engine, but we can dream.

What about a reflector shield that also reflects phaser weapons ( not just torpedos like corbomit). It would send all fired phasers and torpedoes (aimed) back to the attacking ship but with less attack damage. The special effect would look like that: Phaser hits shield, out from that hitpoint a wave goes arround the ship "body". The wavesurround meets on the opposit side of the hitpoint and goes back towards the hitpoint and from there it fires back. Take the physics of water. That would really look great. I hope u understood my explanation...sry for that unfitted post...i just  dont want to open a new threat for it.

the carbonite shielding of teh A2 engine reflects only torps what Jan wants is one that reflects  phaser fire, which is more effective i think.

The Corbomit Reflector ( in the german version its called like his) just reflects any kind of torpedos AND the bio impulse phaser of 8472. Just the 8472 phasers seem to shoot back aimed ( i once lost half of my fleet while attacking souvies with my 8472 warships...that really shocked me Smiley  ), torpedos seem not to react like that.
Well...my point was the special effect...that would look awsome.

Edit: Anyone knows  Master of Orion II ? ^^

the corbomite reflecter DOES reflect back phasers, but not pulses, for torpedoes there is a % chance of the torps either hitting the ship that fired or being reflected into space.

CPT Ryan's right, the A2 corbomite reflects phasers always and torpedos hit sometimes. I seem to recall that in A1 the torpedos always hit after reflecting. A rather devastating effect to be sure.

I agree though that the inversion/refraction whatever new idea is superior though.
