I just read about the proposed Armada 3-J (or whatever) mod/new game, which was posted on the A2files forum.

I'm glad that Doca and the team have chosen to not release any FO matieral- at least until its finished.  The more I read about this new mod and the very different people who want to make it, the more I feel it will either fall through or come out looking like a new edition of that compilation mod.  The FO mod is better than any Armada 3 game, made by the community or a developer, could ever hope to be.  It needs to be protected.

In the way that the models stay in FleetOps and are not legally released to the outer modding community therefor making them FleetOps unique.

Don't get me wrong Fleet Ops is a very good mod and a good accomplishment considering it source, but don't you think saying that is a bit premature considering you have no idea what a possible armada 3 game would be like especially if it has a good developer on board (if it happens I’d like to see Relic take it up based on their excellent work on Warhammer 40k Dawn of War and the Homeworld series)

No matter how fun fleet ops is and how well it creates the way a star trek rts should be it'll always be limited to the armada engine unless it makes the switch to another one.

Yeah sure, if we had blizzard and relic and the old westwood team all working collectively on armada 3, it might be better than FO.  But as it stands, if paramount chose to continue the series I'm sure they'd do it on the cheap and wind up with another flop.  There's also always the possibility that the dev might be over-ambitious, as was the case in Armada 2.

I can't speak for every possibility imaginable (aliens could take over game designing and make a stellar virtual reality armada 3).  I can say, however, that FO is better than any likely game we could hope to see in A3.

Why did Activision have to be so lazy in making the games? They could of been so good...

Khmmmmm can someone give me a link to this Armada 3 thing :-S, cause Im rather sceptical

but if there was to come out, it would be good news for every ST fan, even if it did suck that would at least mean ST community isnt entirely dead and some gifted people could make some new mods based on its source Wink
