recently for christmas i got seasons 2,3,4 of babylon 5 for christmas. I was a fan of the show since i saw back in 94'. any ways i think it is a great sci-fi show at least equal to star trek.
THIS THREAD IS NOT FOR FLAMMING B-5 IF IT HAPPENS I WILL BE REALLY PISSED AND WE DON'T WANT THAT NOW DO WE?

I could never figure this out, is "meow" woof in cat?
Would waffles have saved rome?

DOOM was and still is the greatest FPS.

not we don't, i don't mind it, don't know much about it (seen that many episodes i can't even tell you any of the characters) but o well.

I am or was a Babylon 5 fan as well, mainly because of the interesting characters, the 5 year plot that was continued throughout the seasons geniusly by JMS and because of the breathtaking tension that was build up concerning huge events (big battles, deciding moments for some of the characters, revelations of plot turning-points and so on). It was a truly fantastic series. Concerning the characters: Sinclair Sheridan G'Kar De'lenn Vir Koto Londo Molari Ivanova Garibaldi Kosh and many many more.  |

If you knew them, they would mean much to you. Some characters seem more believable and complex to me than any other from a Star Trek series. All in all, Bab5 was much more serious in many ways than Star Trek. I loved the idea of the Rangers for example and of that mystical idea of connecting the Minbari to mankind. The minbari stopped an interstellar war because they thought that their souls were reborn in humans. Ideas like that made Bab5 big. It's simply more "epic" than most of Star Trek. Perhaps one has to like fantasy and mythology more to love Babylon 5. Ah, and btw: Happy New Year to all folks in middle europe! To Portuguese, Irish and Britains: Happy New Year in about 3 minutes!  |

i absolutely agree Lt.CMDR white. It does have way more depth in some ways than star trek, definetly considering the earth civil war and the shadow war.
the shadows make the dominion, the romulans and the borg look like pansies.

1: THE BIG SPACE STATION WAS CALLED BABYLON 5!
2: I don't but they are not, there are about 8 variants ot Aurora class star fury.
i am on the episode 'Into the Fire' and i cant wait to watch it!

Ok, that's one thing that is so interesting about Babylon 5.
Mankind never gave up the idea of an interstellar space station as a meeting place for all the different races - thus the name "Babylon project".
Babylon 1 - 3 were destroyed (we don't know the reasons for sure, but certainly through something like sabotage or war), Babylon 4 suddenly disappeared (watch all 5 seasons to understand why it disappeared and were it went).
Babylon 5 was the last attempt to make the Babylon project successful...
That's where the series starts.

And the Starfury fighters' design is widely accepted to be one of the best to ever come from sci-fi TV/Movies. The engines are arranged so that rotation around every axis is possible with a minimum of thrust, while the cockpit is in the center of rotation, minimizing the rotational forces on the pilot. Also, the pilot stands in the cockpit, which is much more logical in a zero-G environment than sitting.
Yup, I'm a B5 fan.

And Bab 5 was the first series to show believable space combat maneuvers.
Most other series adapt typical air combat maneuvers, which is nonsense in a vacuum and with zero-g.
Starfuries were shown turning 180° using their thrusters while still going full speed in the original direction. Doing so, they could fire at enemies behind without changing general flight direction. Realistic.
Maneuvers like in Star Wars or Star Trek mostly would need many thrusters working together to get the movement like it is shown. That would be ineffecient.
Also, firing engines all the time is also needless and inefficient, as you don't loose speed in space. You only need your engines for acceleration and deceleration. (Thats why Starfuries have real forward firing engines to decelerate or alternatively can turn around and use their main engines to do so).
The Starfury plastic model by Revell looks just awesome. Compared to my AMT X-Wing, it looks and feels much more massive and compact.
