Hi all I have recenlty been what one may call a busy human being and getting all kinds of internetsy stuff set up but I was wondering about an Avatar thing. I have the following picutre under my own webspace and have been using it on other forums because it is considered public doamin there.

that is the image I think that is the one of the Akira, anyway I was wondering if because of heavier affiliation with paramount if in this area that was no longer public domain. I am no expert on legality.

Also I am blind and quite dumb. what is the policy on image links for any paticular site in the Sigs I looked for the rules but as some may have guessed those have dissapered :omg: atleast for just a sec. I didn't see them anyway I was wondering about the policy on that if it is considerd Advertising or what not

good you have noticed the rules are gone.
the legally depends on the copyright disclaimer on every site what you are allowed to do and what not. theoretically you have to ask every author of an picture or content you use for authorisation on copyrighted sites (look for ©/copyright notice) but in general most ppl don't care. it depends on what you use the images for, if you use them to advertise the authors site i see no problem to use them and the other hand if you use them to create your own site based on an another site's design with this sites images or copied content it may lead to legal problems if the auther get noticed of the 'idea theft' (i call it that way).

I am pretty sure the author of the site didn't have the rightrs to the picture either, and they ceartanily didn't have a copyright notice anywhere It is one of those random Geocities sites that consumes bandwidth So I will check the link they have it from anyway thanks for the Info

Just thought I should mention that was a joke... assuming you aren't joking anyway
OH and found the site I got it from I think it is called Pedro's shipyard or something there is no telling I have a google page filled with the same pictures, shoudl have copied the URL.......... ok dokey then I have looked over most of them and considering I am hosting the image myself and Paramount has a horrible tendancy to ignore e-mail of any kind I am going to assume that the actual picture has no copyrights around it but for the christmas spirit isn't there something about modyifing Paramount's images and essintialy making them my own work or something like that
see image
sorry for the confusion but Me and the whole international laws book aren't quite yet fully aquanited
