I'd say that BOF and Armada II seem to be very related to one another in my opinion.

BOTF is a turn based empire builder while A2 is a real time stratagy game which is focused on combat instead of empire building (BOTF also runs on much much older computers which means my old 98 IBM gets some use after all)

I meant that they have some commonalities.  They both involve colonization, shipbuilding, station building, and trading.

that could be said for a lot of games, but i think that BOF dostn fit that. BOF is more like Civilisation call to power, in A2 you dont build a civilisation you build a quick taks force to desimate...BWHAHAHA.
