I dont know if this could be done but it would be cool to make shields devided on different areas like forward and rear shields, I think that would be enough, but u can further devide them on left right,.....

This would of course make the game more cannon, and would also make more difference from which side u would attack the ship and so it would increase the game strategy cool

Don't know how much of that is possible to do for FO, but I think that it  isn't usable in RTS games like FO. In big fleet attacks it's nearly impossible to command each ship to attack it's enemy where it's shields are the most weaker.

It could make a difference for small surprise attacks and ship on ship fights.

That issue is most suitable for games like Bridge Commander and Starfleet Command.

might be interesting but just seems like a waste a time to me, besides I would want all my shields draining equally (shield equalization) then to lose forward or rear and to have the rest.

It is good in bridge commander or sfc beacuse your shields last longer but not here.
