Title: B2:Network - Online Setting
Post by: -Hammerdin- on March 09, 2004, 12:50:02 PM
Hello, I start Armada 2 with FO (B:2.03) same weeks ago.

Now I persuade a friend to instal the game - for a little multiplayer game ICP/IP -direct ip (no gamespy),... but we always have out of sync message and the games becomes unplayable because both play a "own" game...

we have tried with:
2 vs 2 (Player&Player vs. NPC&NPC) also
1on1 (Player vs. Player) - work a bit longer, but later  sync msg.

My Q. is - how can I configurate the Netsetting or optimize?

Welcome to the forums. Now that used to happen when you used the tachyon scan on the outposts and starbases but that was fixed. Fleet ops is much better about that then the origional game. I can't think of anything else that could cause that problem.

Welcome to the forums

Hm, make sure you both have fixed ip adresses defined like 192.168.0.X range and submask set to 255.255.255.0

yea, i meant lan, online is not nearly not optimizable cause thats related to your isp. the other main reason could be a problem with your computer itself, make sure if you or your friend has a router that it is probably configured to work with armada.

I think we make sure that all ports they are given in the "NetHelp.txt"

"DirectPlay 8 Ports

2300..2400 UDP inbound and outbound
6073           TCP inbound and outbound"

So,

We test the game with a other Player (also DSL) without router. First time with some NPCs - but the sync message come after some minutes - so,... it cant be the tachyon scan bug, I think.

Is there a way to host dedicated server?

I instal. Armada2 (ger. version), Fleet Operations Version Beta 2 ("The official Armada II 1.1 patch is included in this package, you don't have to install it seperatly."), then Fleet Operations Patch Version Beta 2 Patch 2 (2.03), then Fleet Operations Mutimedia Pack Version 1 and Fleet Operations Language Pack (choose german)

DMZ is the De-Miltarized Zone, its where you are essentialy outside ur routers fire wall... As long as you have the latest windows patches and an antivirus you should be okay to be in. You need to check ur router settings to change it.

Well I dont recall hearing that you didnt need to install the 1.1 patch. Did anyone else install the patch on the unpatched game before installing the mod or am I the only idiot?

yea, the 1.1 cd was the big problem with beta 1.0 as we haven't had one so wrong files were copied of the cd...that were times ;) good they are over

i got the same problem, yesterday. i played with someone and just got out of sync. could it be a problem with the transferrate? cause the host had a 56k an i got dsl broadband connection(?).

and beside that, a strange thing is.. i cant host a game, and get a message like "u canīt host, cause gamespy dont know this game"
