Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: Missigno on November 05, 2003, 04:37:33 AM I was looking and trying my old CD's, when I find this forgotten ST game.
DAMN IT IT'S GOOD. You can choose between 5 different races (federtation, klingon, romulan, cardassian, ferengi) and it's a Turned strategy game. But I want to hear... What do you think about it? Do any of you know where a ST:BOF community is? C U later Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: ADuc on November 05, 2003, 09:48:09 PM Meh, I wanted to play that game badly.
Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: captain henk on November 06, 2003, 07:39:35 AM Don't have it but from what i've heard it's a real good game. To bad they don't sell it here... :(
Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: ketteringdave on November 08, 2003, 04:05:06 PM I just recently pulled BOTF out and started playing again too, it's one of my favorite games all-time.
There are still a few groups working on the game. Right now I'm playing with the TrekReal Mod, that messes around with some of the ships, costs and whatever. (TrekReal page (http://www.members.shaw.ca/kravi/)). There are a couple other projects about, but not really a whole lot going on. Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: Missigno on November 09, 2003, 09:53:49 PM I have a couple of questions about that MOD, I'm sorry if I'm violating any forum rule.
Do you need the original CD to install that MOD? For example I need the original when to install BOTF original patch By the way, can I post any pirating and coping post in this forum? Thanks Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: ketteringdave on November 10, 2003, 03:32:39 AM You don't need the CD to install any mod, I don't think. I've been running BotF with a no-cd patch, ever since the patch, and I keep the CD hidden away for safe-keeping. Every mod I've ever seen for BotF requires adjustments in just one file anyway.

Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: NCC1701Z on November 11, 2003, 02:13:45 AM Isn't the game like 10 years old?
Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: ketteringdave on November 11, 2003, 04:40:35 AM I think it's about 5 years old, 1997 or '98 maybe.
The CD I have is for Windows 95/98. Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: Missigno on November 11, 2003, 03:56:47 PM I may be old, but it's kind of good.
It's a per turn strategy game by Microprose (You won't find good any games of this class of Star Trek). As I said before, 5 different races can be selected. You'll find about 30 minor races who can be your friends or enemies, you can make them join your empire, military or diplomaticaly talking. It has not campaign mode (only multiplayar against the machine, or another player with LAN). It's sounds and music are exellent, and the game play is also good. You don't need a very powerful machine to play it. Tha bad thing is, it's vulnerable against Bugs and crashes. By the way, does anybody knows if the game can be played by Internet? Does it need any service? (like GameSpy) Thanks Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: ketteringdave on November 11, 2003, 11:03:25 PM It used to run on the Microsoft Gaming Zone or something like that, I'm not sure. The only multiplayer I've ever tried was direct connections on a LAN (well, router box), not internet play. If you want to play a game online, check out this site (http://members.aon.at/zelli/news.htm), there's a contact list of people who might be available.
*edit - Don't forget espionage. I love having a strong empire that can bring other players down just with sabotage. Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: NieKnight on November 12, 2003, 09:19:03 AM gamespy might do it if you install both that and gs it should detect it for you.
Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: Lumpybob on January 06, 2005, 04:23:15 PM in my opinion, ST:BOTF is the most like star trek out of all the games available...

Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: EccentricDonald on January 21, 2005, 07:34:32 AM I'd say that BOF and Armada II seem to be very related to one another in my opinion.

Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: Tiberious726 on January 23, 2005, 08:35:32 PM Quote I'd say that BOF and Armada II seem to be very related to one another in my opinion. BOTF is a turn based empire builder while A2 is a real time stratagy game which is focused on combat instead of empire building (BOTF also runs on much much older computers which means my old 98 IBM gets some use after all) Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: EccentricDonald on January 23, 2005, 09:36:20 PM I meant that they have some commonalities. They both involve colonization, shipbuilding, station building, and trading.
Title: Star Trek: Birth Of The Federation Post by: [F-I-I]VAdm-MJP on January 23, 2005, 10:36:17 PM that could be said for a lot of games, but i think that BOF dostn fit that. BOF is more like Civilisation call to power, in A2 you dont build a civilisation you build a quick taks force to desimate...BWHAHAHA.
