Title: ThreePointZero Post by: DOCa Cola on December 15, 2008, 07:00:04 PM (http://www.fleetops.net/images/logo.png) The long wait is over! The last weeks have been very busy and challenging for us with the 4 beta stages and all the good and patient work the beta testers put into playing our hands’ work. We want to thank you very much for all the efforts you put into testing the final version of Armada II Fleet Operations. Everyone did a great job and shortened the date of release significantly! Now, after we’ve fixed all known bugs and clinches we feel glad to announce that the final version of Armada II Fleet Operation V 3.0 is ready to be released and enjoyed by everyone who has waited for so long. Since 2002 we’ve put our heart and time into this project to create something outstanding and enjoyable for everyone. This is somewhat of an emotional moment for us and we want to thank every one of you who have waited for so long without losing patience and such a great belief in our intentions. Thank you very much! Since Version 3 PR we’ve released in summer 2006 there’ve been a lot of changes with the game with tons of new special effects, graphical updates as well as changes in gameplay and gaming ambience. Lots of balancing, modeling, programming and testing were done and of course the complete overhaul of the Borg which now resurrect in a new design and playing style. We believe that playing the Borg has never felt that authentic ever before! As the Queen would say:” We are complete” hearing a voice from the back, “and almost perfect!” ;) Yes, we think that the game now truly crossed the border of being a beta and can be considered as a fully working and complete modification which reflects many of our imaginations and a game design we think a good Star Trek game should meet. However, this doesn’t mean it’s over now! We continue our work on this project! Still there are so many ideas we want to bring into Fleet Operations like the redo of the Noxter, two new races namely Iconians and Ciadans and some other surprises you might be faced with in the next major release. As we speak of releases – we decided to change our release policy and change the old way of releasing big data bundles with a more frequent way of updating the game through smaller add-ons. Well, enough talking! With this news it has become real! Armada II Fleet Operation V 3.0 is now released and is waiting for you to be downloaded and played! Enjoy and visit us again! Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on December 15, 2008, 10:43:16 PM The Borg feel.... well borgy :D
They are quite different to other races which is really cool. I got owned by the AI once, cause I didnt know how to produce ships as Borg :D A rematch sorted that pesky AI though :D :borg: Havent yet tried other races, but I doubt there'll be many changes for them. Oh and the AI is better IMO. So everything is great but 1 thing is bothering me. When I go to ingame menu or when I win the game, all I see is a black screen and I hear the buttons when I go over them with a cursor. The prob is I dunno what button does what. Hope u can help me, Im running on Vista 32 sp1 All in all a great game :) Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: TParis on December 15, 2008, 10:48:49 PM So everything is great but 1 thing is bothering me. Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Optec on December 15, 2008, 10:51:36 PM yep thats a small bug we had on some reference systems, gladly we finally found a way to reconstruct it so it should be fixed within the next patch :)
as TParis said pressing the windows key or alt-tab and switching back to FleetOps should fix the problem Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on December 15, 2008, 11:07:39 PM Ah, thank you :)
Great job on the Borg models Optec  Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Smoerebroed on December 15, 2008, 11:19:45 PM we're are supposed to deposit balance suggestions or balance problems?

Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Dr. Lazarus on December 16, 2008, 12:22:09 AM ThreePointZero is great so far. I've played as Starfleet and the Borg. The Borg are powerful.
What I mean is, the Borg are powerful, but Captain Janeway is a resourceful captain. We will resist. On that subject, I think I have a thing for dear Cathy. I don't think I could resist her. Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Tyler on December 16, 2008, 12:24:28 AM Going by the screenshots at Filefront, I like the Defiant in this version.
Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Blade on December 16, 2008, 12:25:12 AM it might be soon but since fo3.0 is out can we start making requests of what we'd like 2 c in the next ptch project :D
Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Dontai on December 16, 2008, 12:29:42 AM cant believe it actually out, this is impossible and you all know it. I cant believe what you actually did with the borg. They can actually adapt to the race they are fighting. I must admit amazing job FO team. I also still see the breen is broken. Why hell is the breen still using klingon disruptor? You get lazy or some thing?
Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Blade on December 16, 2008, 12:43:24 AM at least its out that can b sorted later if it needs it
Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Adam_C on December 16, 2008, 02:13:00 AM is the 3.0 public version the same as cb4?
congrats btw and a BIG BIG THANKS Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Triarii on December 16, 2008, 06:29:38 AM Well, I started playing (as the Borg initally, then the Feds) and there were a few (negative) things I noticed...
1: It seems that the eight taks still listed under "high priority" and "before next major release" have not, in fact, been completed... Assimilated ships (or at least, the Klingon and Dominion ones I captured) don't seem to have any power nodes on them and there still isn't any Borg "shuttle" traffic around their stations... 2: Borg stations, probes, con. nodes and res. assims. all build strangely... They will partially build then most of the rest of it will suddenly "appear" out of nothing in an instant, with the little white "sparks" preceeding to go over areas that have already appeared... The reverse happens when a construction is cancelled or a station is disasembled... Nothing will seem to happen at first (except that the familar white "sparks" will move over parts of the station without actually getting rid of it), then suddenly most of the station will vanish and the deconstruction will then continue normally... What's going on there... 3: I didn't really like the design of the res. assim. at first, but it's not all that bad, actually, except when it's flying "sideways"... You should have given it the movement mode that the probe has... It's current mode makes it look strange when it's flying around moons as well (and I think it may actually be making it harder for it to do its job, which is a detriment to any Borg player)... 4: Oh and thanks for keeping the "stoned" computer voice, guys... It's good of you... Now I have to fix it myself again and I won't be able to play multiplayer while it's fixed, so if I want to play the Feds in multi I'll have to listen to the "stoned" voice... Again, thanks a lot... >:( Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: TParis on December 16, 2008, 06:53:32 AM 4: Oh and thanks for keeping the "stoned" computer voice, guys... It's good of you... Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Optec on December 16, 2008, 07:52:52 AM yep some tasks which did not influence gameplay directly will appear in the first larger content-patch Fleet Ops 3.1 which we just started to develop yesterday. We decided to switch from the "one large release" policy to a content-patch philosophy, including smaller packages of new features in more frequent "addons". In other words: it won't take another 6 years :sweatdrop:
Federation vessels already have Borg-Assimilations by the way so you can already take a look how they will look like. I just started assimilating the other vessels. v3.1 will increase the overall graphics of Fleet Operations and add some smaller gameplay features as secret candy.. But hey, lets enjoy 3.0 first, we can talk about 3.1 next year! :D Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Galefury on December 16, 2008, 08:24:41 AM YES !!! The wait is over ! For the last 2 year the first page I opened it was FleetOps, checking the progress on the mod. Well, I guess now I'll do the same thing waiting for patches ! Although I'm sure it will be only to improve the gameplay and not to fix things. Thank you soo much for the hard work, guys. I will install the game tonight and give some feedback, but first a question: do I need to install also the multimedia patch ?
Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Blade on December 16, 2008, 09:24:10 AM theres just no pleasing some people lol. great mod guys well done
Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Selor Kiith on December 16, 2008, 09:34:56 AM I found just one thing, when I turn the graphic details to max, the minimap stays black (except the parts that are in my scanner range) but when I turn it just a bit left, the Minimap is all visible but things just appear in scanner range as normal... I just wondered if this is intended.
Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: corebrach190 on December 16, 2008, 09:51:33 AM I TOLD YOU SO MERADITH BWAHAHAHA
Mr Negativity saying i doubt that it will be released on monday well looky here it came ot on monday  :P lol i played it and well......the borg.......i......LOVE THEM :borg: i love the explotion effect and i love all the new designd stuff for the other races (the way the tech is layed out n stuff) and the new excelsior is better than the last but you can not ever beat the origonal :shifty: Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Triarii on December 16, 2008, 10:04:29 AM Well, I can't choose which class of ship I get when I call one in using Starfleet Command... That's... kind of a problem... because I can only seem to call in Steamrunners...
OK, I played a quick game, calling in a total of eight ships using SFC... One (using the "experimental ship" option) was an Avalon and, if you ask me, eight credits seems terribly overpriced, though it might explain why the fighters it launches never seem to return to their mothership, but of other seven I called in I got six Steamrunners and one Nebula! :pinch: Either this is supposed to happen, or the random number generator the game's using is fucked... EDIT: OK, played another one... This time (after calling in a Descent) I called in three Steamies and three Nebs before finally seeing my first Galaxy... OK, it makes sense that Galaxies would be a lot more rare, but a random selection of two (well technically three, but you almost never get the Galaxy and despite calling in over a half-dozen more ships it was the only one I got that game) ships doesn't strike me as being much of a random selection... It's also a little incongruous how the only ships in the area able to respond to your calls for help are Steamrunners and Nebulas... However, I think even adding a couple more could do the trick... Perhaps the Nova could make an appearance as a specail weapons based ship (like the Remoore and Norway) and the Ambassadore a standard cruiser (similar to the Nebula)... The Abmassadore's a little old, granted, but the Excelsior was still viable during TNG, so who's to say the Ambassadore couldn't take over the Excelsior's "elder statesman" role post-TNG? Other options might include members of those miscelaneous classes from Wolf 359 (Freedmon, New Orleans, Cheyenne, etc) or the some of the less horrible kitbashes from DS9 (the Centaur and Curry/Raging Queen (perhap serving as a lighter version of the Avalon with fighters that do have to return to the hanger) come to mind)... By the way, I know it seems like all I'm doing is complaining, but the mod is actually fantastic and most of my criticisms are minor nitpicks and quibbles on the face of it... All I'm doing really is trying to make a great mod even better... Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: DOCa Cola on December 16, 2008, 10:48:28 AM the random generator used is the same that armada is using... ;)
i guess you were just out of luck.. though steamrunners are nice against big borg vessels :) Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: KL0K on December 16, 2008, 11:01:24 AM true, their torps just kick the shit out of a borg - had to face this fact as a borgplayer
Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Triarii on December 16, 2008, 11:24:13 AM true, their torps just kick the shit out of a borg - had to face this fact as a borgplayer  Makes sense... The Borg vessels are so massive that the the Steamie's torpedoes are never going to miss (100% hit rate against larger ships, 80% against mediums and 60% against small ships if memory serves)... On the other hand, the Nebula's pulse phaser (less damage against larger ships, same 100/80/60 ratio, this time for small/medium/large if memory serves) is going to be decidedly ineffective against the Borg... Actually, it's ironic to think that, given that pulse phasers are ineffective against large ships, if you're a Fed player with nothing but Borg opponents, you should not under any circumstances build the Defiant (pulse phasers and a specail made useless by a lack of Borg shields), a ship that was specifically designed to combat Borg incursions... EDIT: I said that before I found out that the Defiant's specail now kills weapons instead of shields... Yea, scratch that, given its new weapon killing ability the Defiant could in fact be absolutely essential against the Borg as few ships + weapon killing specail = no fun for the Borg... Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: TheOldMan on December 16, 2008, 12:05:23 PM :woot:
Can't say a thing. 3.0 is an experience, nothing less. I didn't even recognize the game  New gameplay, new graphics, new things to play around with - it's amazing and I guess I haven't seen half of all the new stuff you brought into the game. To say that you've done great work would be an understatement. You guys are the greatest! Keep up the fantastic work! Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on December 16, 2008, 02:00:29 PM Emm guys, I have played 2 online games and both went OOS quite quickly. It was me and hypercube vs 2 and 3 hard AIs. I was Borg/Dominion and he was Federation. The AIs were Rom/Kligon/Dominion.
I thought u fixed that already, its a really annoying bug :( :( Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: TParis on December 16, 2008, 03:00:41 PM But hey, lets enjoy 3.0 first, we can talk about 3.1 next year! :D As long we get balance patches BEFORE version 3.1 :P (yeah I have already said that once) Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Jan on December 16, 2008, 03:05:46 PM this cries out for a new net-code! but as i heard its very hard to do....
Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: GZero on December 16, 2008, 04:06:06 PM Hmm, i have a problem with Fleet Ops.
Game Crashes with access violation every time. Only when i'm playing Fed there will be no crash. Have send a bug report, maybe you can figure out what the problem is. And before someone says "Check ypur System": Is already checked and everything is absolutely fine. I'm playing Everquest 2 and this game uses RAM and CPU to its limits so Hardware is also ok. I have no clue what causes the failure. One interessting fact is, that i'm playing another mod of Armada 2 absolutly stable with no failures (Ghost's Compilation Mod) Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Drone on December 16, 2008, 05:16:24 PM Thank you! :borg:

Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: KL0K on December 16, 2008, 09:13:28 PM the armada2 cd or a A2 installation on your harddrive is needed ^^
Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: TParis on December 16, 2008, 09:41:14 PM the armada2 cd or a A2 installation on your harddrive is needed ^^ That's to install And yeah, the CD is still needed to play. Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: antagonist on December 16, 2008, 09:51:54 PM I'm laughing about myself right now. I have no idea where I put my A2 CD. Not putting them back inside the case is a damn bad habit :/
Well, there's always the internet... :pinch: Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: USSHavoc on December 16, 2008, 10:19:50 PM Alright, thanks for the answers. I figured that was so, but had a small hope it wasn't, cause then my friends could play it.

Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Cpt Ryan on December 17, 2008, 10:25:10 AM nice work guys. truely epic in scope
a few things though. where is the game bgm and menu music? i thought new music was going to be/already made for this but the music files in the file structure are blank ones. I know i've been walkabout for a while and apoligise if its been asked before or announced its not here yet. no worries though i got some music of my own working, just a slight scare when i first got loaded up a game have encountered what i believe to be a bug: i cant call in any ships with the SFC unit. the special energy appears as "ready" instead of a number, and clicking on either button to call in a ship does nothing but produce the customary menu click sfx. no crash or nothing just no activity resulting from it. The AI however is able to call in ships. Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Redshirt on December 17, 2008, 10:36:58 AM Wow. Three years and two months later... words can only ruin the moment here. *eyes tear up*
Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Cpt Ryan on December 17, 2008, 12:30:37 PM sorry 1 more thing plz, plz plz bring back the ability to save an instant action game. some people cant spare a few hours all in one sitting, therefore many a game wont get finished :( :crybaby:
oh and forget the music question found it in the d/l section. i origonally d/l from filefront :whistling: Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: cts006 on December 17, 2008, 12:51:25 PM Say What!?!?!?!?!? HELL YAH! Downloading ASAP!
Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Smoerebroed on December 17, 2008, 01:18:31 PM regarding music:: download the media pack!
regarding savegames:: cross your fingers for 3.1 Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Tylmiria on December 17, 2008, 07:38:22 PM have encountered what i believe to be a bug: i cant call in any ships with the SFC unit. the special energy appears as "ready" instead of a number, and clicking on either button to call in a ship does nothing but produce the customary menu click sfx. no crash or nothing just no activity resulting from it. The AI however is able to call in ships. I assume you mean Starfleet Command? Click the preferred ship, either the "distress call" or the "experimental ship" then click where you want it to appear on your screen or map. Then you just wait for the cooldown and you can bring in another. Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: TwinetTickler22 on December 17, 2008, 08:18:50 PM Is there anyway around the CD disk to play requirement.
It wasnt need for the the 3.0 Preview, why is it needed now? Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Zebh on December 17, 2008, 08:24:39 PM 3 Preview release required CD. If you installed the vista patch, it removed CD requirement.

Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: TwinetTickler22 on December 17, 2008, 10:49:43 PM Why dont you just install it into your existing Fleet Ops directory? I did... but when I got to play a game, it wont start and says I need the CD. Which unfortunately I do not have. Is there anyway around this Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on December 19, 2008, 12:05:11 AM 1 more stupid bug to report: When I sent supplies as Dominion to Federation it says biomatter (instead of supplies) transfered.
It isnt important, but its annoying just the same :) Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: ray320 on December 19, 2008, 01:23:23 AM hey i cant save any games for some reson can anyone help me with this?

No worries though, pops got in contact with Activision and found a place i can send my broken CD to get a new one, so i shall be joining you guys soon enough. Just the menu interfaces alone look stunning though. Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: firewarrior1705 on December 20, 2008, 12:39:44 AM The main thing that I don't kinda like in this build is the way in which you get ships from the SFC building. All ships are RANDOM, so far I never got a galaxy which was one of my favorite ships :((

But for this to be the best the ships need to do some kind of maneuvers while in combat.. :innocent: oh and the non-player control ships is very interesting  Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: 087423 on December 22, 2008, 06:21:13 PM Now that this version is has been relesed what is next for this mod
Title: Re: ThreePointZero Post by: Tyler on December 22, 2008, 08:07:57 PM Thanks to the SFC's random feature, I almost always get Nebula & Galaxy's.
