Title: On Screen Post by: Optec on May 09, 2008, 03:58:31 PM It has been a while since our last newspost. We had many things to clean up and complete before the Fleet Operations v3 release. As it draws closer most features have been reworked and finished. We will publish a few previews within the next weeks.
We will start today with the new Warpin feature. Vessels do now warpin from the map border and jump to impulse once they reached the destination you ordered. You will be granted control of your new vessel once it droped to impulse. Here is a small video clip of a Descent Class reaching the sector just in time to assist the Fleet against two Borg Cubes. On screen! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtKvwF3uVm0 Gameplay-wise Warpin has been split into two seperate abilities. The normal Warpin will only cost 2 credits and grants you either an good old Excelsior, a Steamrunner, a Nebula or a Galaxy, randomly selected. The "Experimental Warpin" allows you to call for aid of an NX-Ship, namely the Descent or the Avalon if you play with Admiral Risner's support. Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Alienhunter on May 09, 2008, 04:11:57 PM cooool I want more of this
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Dr. Lazarus on May 09, 2008, 04:16:12 PM The soundtrack you can hear right at the end sounds like the "enterprise" theme from Star Trek the motion picture. :shifty:
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Dominus_Noctis on May 09, 2008, 04:31:25 PM Awwww sweet :D
I just can't wait to be able to command those cubes up close and personal :woot: Those explosions look pretty devastating... are they actually "shaking" the screen? Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Optec on May 09, 2008, 05:46:36 PM Yep, explosions to now have a "rumble" effect, scaled in their size
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Eufnoc on May 09, 2008, 06:41:59 PM Wow that's how a cube should be, two cubes V 2 fleets of ships!!! well done Mr Optec!!!!
Posted on: 09-05-2008, 18:28:39 I just noticed aswell if you look at the bord base (top right green blob) it goes from a dot to a blob in that battle lol, i take it that was a counter while they rebuilt then? Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Mortographer on May 09, 2008, 09:27:19 PM Man that's awesome!
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: miketeckia on May 09, 2008, 10:35:41 PM Sweet! I'm sure glad classes are done for the next quarter.
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Dominus_Noctis on May 10, 2008, 01:21:01 AM Nice; it also looked pretty cool watching the explosions on the surface of those cubes as the phasers hit
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Azraael on May 10, 2008, 11:42:37 AM I've tried to watch it I got the message "Sorry, this video is no longer avalaible" :(
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Jolteon on May 10, 2008, 12:20:42 PM Very nice looking, complete with the obvious computer "Enemy Engaged", it's very observant that there computer ;)
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Dr. Lazarus on May 10, 2008, 12:59:56 PM I've tried to watch it I got the message "Sorry, this video is no longer avalaible" :( Hmmm that's odd, I just tried it and it plays fine. Maybe try again later on? Maybe Youtube's servers temporarily goosed... :sweatdrop: Title: Re: On Screen Post by: MutantHippie on May 10, 2008, 02:48:05 PM thats so god damn cool :D, loving the Borg btw most excellent
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Dominus_Noctis on May 10, 2008, 03:40:25 PM Sometimes that message comes on if you play the youtube video offsite... maybe try playing it directly off of youtube?
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Jan on May 11, 2008, 04:38:58 PM Brilliant! News set up at st-galaxy.de
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Stylsy on May 11, 2008, 05:05:28 PM Haven't checked in for a while, but this is awesome news. Can't wait to try the next release out!
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Jan on May 11, 2008, 07:59:06 PM But still... there is one thing. Fights look a bit odd as all ships just stand there and fire. I wouldn't mind if ships moved around while fyring on a cube or so just to make it a bit more dynamic and eye candy. Some fleet orders we saw in vanilla A2 would be very nice.
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Dominus_Noctis on May 11, 2008, 08:08:01 PM Yeah I agree... it always did look odd when the ships just sit there and shoot without maneuvering and what not ... but I guess it's up to the player to move the ships? :sweatdrop:
I remember the cloverleaf formation... mmmm :whistling: Anyway... how many beams were each cube firing? It looked like 2 per each... and I didn't see any gravtorps but... Title: Re: On Screen Post by: redmanmark86 on May 11, 2008, 09:58:42 PM depends how much they bothered to upgrade the cubes before attacking, remember its all slot based now?
anyway as for dog fighting, cant you bring back 'Directors Cut' from Armada 1 which allowed the ships to automatically circle each other? Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Triarii on May 11, 2008, 10:00:26 PM I fear I may have to boycott playing as the Federation (or even playing multi-player at all) unless that stoned sounding Arm II computer voice is replaced with its Arm I counterpart. I can put up with the other Arm II voice-sets (though I'd prefer it if all Arm II construction ship, mining ship and scout ship voice-sets were repalced with their Arm I counterparts as well), but the stoned computer voice REALLY pisses me off and almost completely wrecks my enjoyment of playing as the Federation, because I have to constantly listen to it...
Please Fleet Ops team, do me a favour and at least fix the computer voice, I'm begging you... :crybaby: Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Optec on May 12, 2008, 01:55:37 AM Yep, we are still working on some advanced fleet movement, but the way it is done in vanilla a2 is not such a good start. we might probably start something on our own for v4. You will find many more interesting feature in v3 to bring you more action - more about them in the next news posts ;)
The number of vessels a cube can attack simultaniously depends on which models are installed. the tactical cube for example was configured with many defensive upgrades (like the tactical armor which is just a module itself) and only attacks one target. the "normal" cube can attack 2. A sphere for example - the best multi-targeting vessel for the Borg - can attack up to 4 individual targets. More about the module system can be read here (http://www.fleetops.net/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,3/topic,3510.0/). We just take a small look at the sound files for the old a1 voice. We will see what we can do  Title: Re: On Screen Post by: RedShirt on May 12, 2008, 03:18:17 AM Holy...
That was, I do believe, the first official confirmation that, life allowing, you guys are going to stick around for another version. Probably to be released by 2012. :P Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Dominus_Noctis on May 12, 2008, 04:11:14 AM ...every four years: not bad at all  . Starcraft II took/is taking/will possibly/might take 10 years... :pinch:
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Optec on May 12, 2008, 11:09:07 AM Well Real Life throws in stones in our way from time to time but we have no intentions to stop fleet operations before all features and all 8 races are up and running
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Triarii on May 12, 2008, 12:58:44 PM *Gushes* Thankyou so much for taking my begging into consideration, guys!
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Dominus_Noctis on May 12, 2008, 06:08:20 PM Wait... what is the other one?
Borg, Feds, Romies, Klingons, Iconian, Ciadan, Dominion.... Noxtar? Posted on: May 12, 2008, 05:43:54 PM Just had an idea... what about rotatable structures? Is it even possible (useful for yards especially)? Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Eufnoc on May 12, 2008, 06:36:21 PM yep
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Dominus_Noctis on May 12, 2008, 07:13:05 PM Yep to what
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Eufnoc on May 12, 2008, 08:02:06 PM Wait... what is the other one? Borg, Feds, Romies, Klingons, Iconian, Ciadan, Dominion.... Noxtar? Posted on: May 12, 2008, 05:43:54 PM Just had an idea... what about rotatable structures? Is it even possible (useful for yards especially)? Yep to what  The Noxter bit, had not even seen the other question about rotation. Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Smoerebroed on May 12, 2008, 09:57:11 PM I hope that screenshaking still allows me to issue orders without troubles; other then that; wahoo!
@Tick; your assumption is correct Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Jolteon on May 13, 2008, 06:31:31 PM One thing, there should be an option to enable / disable the shaking stuff ;)
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Meredith on May 13, 2008, 10:18:32 PM ya and it could be in the options menu so one person could have it and the other could not and still be in the same game cause its a UI thing
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Optec on May 14, 2008, 08:09:37 AM war takes place on a battlefield, not on a chess field :D
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Smoerebroed on May 14, 2008, 08:51:59 AM this is not war; this is a game
playability>eye candy Title: Re: On Screen Post by: Azraael on May 14, 2008, 09:22:03 AM i'VE JUST WATCHED IT, IT'S REALLY AWESOME !!!!! Those borg cubes look really powefull - a whole fleet was almost not enough :borg:, And this explosions - specially after tactic cube being destroyed, enough to say that all my dreams came true... :woot:
Title: Re: On Screen Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on May 15, 2008, 09:48:07 PM Yah looks much much better than beta2. You guys are doing a great job, the engine is a bit obsolete unfortunatly but one can look over that :)
I LOOOOOOVE the new cubes btw ^^ Cant wait to try V3 :)
