Title: "Q" 4 for trekies
Post by: ewm90 on March 24, 2008, 03:42:03 AM
What are your projections on the possibilities for Romulan federation relationships after the last movie nemesis.

And if the Feds and Roms become bed buddies what do you think it would do for klingon relations.

i doubt the federation & the romulans will let things go. or even if there is an alliance it will be short lived, like the kling-rommie alliance. those romulans are just to untrusting & sneaky to remain in an alliance with anyone, for any amount of time.

Isn't that what was said about the Klingons during TOS and TMP?  :ermm:

Yeah sorta... but the Klingons have honor, remember? Still, I think that the feds and romies will ally and be succesful because although the romies look underhanded, it is in their best interests to become federation to fix internal strige. I guess it could go either way; it depends if romies become more apparent in aims and less domineering.  ^-^

Romulans and the Federation will have a relationship similar to the USA and West Germany, they will work together militarily and such at least until the situation is bettered, but the Romulans will retain Full Autonomy and their empire.

Well there is no more west germany, but I dont think the Romulans will be gone
As said before, they are untrustworthy and I dont think they can hold any alliance long

The Barrstards signed a non-agression pact with the dominion, if they'd entered the war sooner they could have saved millions of lives.

But no!! DS9 captured, fleets crushed, world's conquered, while they sat back drinking Romulan Ale. Only later on did they decide to offer their warbirds.  >:(

I think that the Romulans will use the Federations assistance to gain a foothold to attempt to take down the Federation... If somehow the Romulans and Federation gained a lasting alliance, it would very likely strain relations between the Klingons and the Federation.

The books set after nemesis have the Romulan Empire on the brink of civil war.  The Remans enter Klingon protection.

The Romulan barrstards don't deserve such a beautiful planet. The federation should annex Romulus and turn it into a vacation paradise, and as for the dark and crappy sister planet, well it's full of dilithium, so it's christmas.

Aww, don't be so hard on the Romies. They have some pretty nifty tech (common, look how their ships are powered after all... and the tavara?!  :woot:)  :shifty:

I might be able to get you a singularity powered Griffen, if you ask nicely :whistling:

The federation already has Risa and Pacifica, I don't think they need another vacation paradise.

There's always room for another vacation spot!!  :D

Yesss I do agree, the Roms have some cool technology. I remember in the Klingon Civil War in the next gen, Geordi says that  "Romulan sensors are as good as ours", indicating that they are a high-tech species, and as for how that quantum-singularity engine works, you got me!! I doubt they'd tell anyone, and I doubt the Federation would fight a war with them unless they really had to. The Federation fleet seems to be larger but they'd take a bit of a pasting from those warbirds.

isn't a warbird like twice the size of a galaxy class? and the sucker cloaks too. all things considered the federation would be in a bit of trouble if war did breakout with the romulans. IMHO.

But the federation has like 3x more ships.

The federation would probably win a war with the Romulans in the end, but the victory would be very costly and scarcely worth it. Although, I'd bet that the Klingons would not need much persuading to shoot some Romulan ships so that would alter the balance of power somewhat.

I think the Romulans know that their economy can't match the Federation - they don't have enough member worlds. Therefore, they purposely build their ships for deterrent effect, which is why Picard loses some more hair every time a Romulan ship decloaks.

i didn't say the feds wouldn't win, as laz said it would be very costly. is a victory still a victory if losses are prohibitively massive?

aren't the warbird and galaxy evenly matched in TNG ?

that would make the Sovereign the fly swatter

I was of the impression that the warbird is more powerful than a galaxy class, but I could be wrong, not sure what the canon description is.

I agree Casper, a victory can be so costly as to be a defeat - it's called a Pyrhic victory, from king Pyrrhus of Epirus (not to be confused with Cyrus the Virus) who suffered a huge "victory" against the Romans in 280 BC. He's reported to have said that "another such victory against the Romans and we will be ruined".

This can be a massive deterrent effect; some people speculate that China is trying to build up its military strength so that a war with the US over Taiwan would hardly be worth it. True, america would win the war, but would they take heavy losses for one little island? Me thinks not, but then again I could be wrong.

China seriously needs to leave Tibet.  If they don't, I'd contemplate going to Tibet to help organize a resistance! (experience isn't a requirement, right?)

In TNG the Romulan warbird was usually considered to be on equal terms with the galaxy class (if one was speculated as superior over the other, it would have been the warbird), so it probably would be a "Pyrhic victory" as the survivor would be barely hanging on.

The end of Nemesis did leave Romulan/Federation cooperation as hopeful, but all the back story I know of indicates relationships falling apart.

Oh, and in terms of underhandedness, I think Section 31 would have something up their sleeve.

Look, you can either wipe out your own senate, or I can do it for you.
