Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: Mortographer on January 29, 2008, 01:52:08 AM If you use a laptop, you might want to look into electric outlet adapters.
Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: serpicus on January 29, 2008, 04:28:12 AM Swiss German is a language apart....even if you know Hochdeutsch, schweizer deutsch is alien!
Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: Eufnoc on January 29, 2008, 09:35:26 AM lol the worse bit is i applied to be in france and got put here, so not only do i know little german i know even less
(pretty much none) swiss german lol!!! Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: Smoerebroed on January 29, 2008, 09:54:58 AM you will need a adapter for your electronic devices;
yes the swiss dialect of german is weird; don't piss them off my faking their accent or dialog; Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: Optec on January 29, 2008, 01:18:42 PM hm, nothing to special about Switzerland
yep the dialect is a strange abomination of German, even toping "Schwäbisch" if you ever heard of it :innocent: but as in most European countries you should have no problem coming along with English Oh.. and remember to drive on the right side (literally) Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: Rhaz on January 29, 2008, 06:38:58 PM Schwäbisch is für mi koi problem!
Yeah, /agrees to everything that has been said. But, to be true, if you know Hoch Deutsch, you can probably survive. Ich habe Hunger! Ich brauch' ein Bett! Ich brauch' Wasser! Ect, haha. Also, a great deal of people speak English at least a bit. I'm actually going to Germany, Switzerland and Italy this march (leaving on the 25th) hopefully Optec is checking out girls at the Airport and I can bump into him and talk about Flops, lol! I've been absent from the forums lately also, haha, painting the house. =[ Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: Smoerebroed on January 29, 2008, 06:56:58 PM why would you go to the airport to check out girls?
Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: Rhaz on January 29, 2008, 07:03:12 PM I donno, if you like them Foreign, you might as well get them the second they enter the country right?
Lol, was just making a convenient scenario for Optec to be around when I visit. Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: Optec on January 29, 2008, 09:51:18 PM i will rally in my bunker and prepare for the invasion :shifty:
Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: serpicus on January 30, 2008, 12:30:15 AM Actually, since you applied to be in France, I assume you know french, try speaking to the Swiss Germans in French.
They'll love you for it. If you thought imitating their dialect would be a faux pas :lol: Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: Eufnoc on January 30, 2008, 12:57:22 AM hehe i could just do a team america and just shout derka derka they might like it more lol
Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: serpicus on January 30, 2008, 04:14:48 AM lol..
Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: Rhaz on January 30, 2008, 05:40:47 AM You could always ask out the pretty Swiss Girl for some Fondue.
Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: Eufnoc on January 30, 2008, 12:38:28 PM :thumbsup:
Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: RedShirt on January 31, 2008, 05:11:05 PM Oh.. and remember to drive on the right side (literally) Finally, a civilized Europe! /joke ^-^ Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: serpicus on January 31, 2008, 07:53:51 PM hey, give Europe some credit.
It takes a lot of effort for Cro-magnons to imitate Sapien Indo-Greco-Egyptian models of civilization. :lol: Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: antagonist on January 31, 2008, 08:09:47 PM Swiss German is a language apart....even if you know Hochdeutsch, schweizer deutsch is alien! Regardless of where you go in Germany, if you're a foreigner who only knows Hochdeutsch, you're usally SOL. Except if you're in the area of Hannover, their dialect there is Hochdeutsch ^^ There's just too many dialects for even Germans to make heads or tails out of. The worst case scenario would be south-eastern Bavaria, though...I honestly doubt the language the older people there speak even qualifies as German anymore...but then again, I was stationed there for 6 months, so my point of view may be a little biased (AVZ für BW-Soldaten, die in Bayern stationiert sind!) :innocent: Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: Eufnoc on January 31, 2008, 08:58:04 PM :ermm:
Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: RedShirt on February 01, 2008, 09:54:05 PM Considering Germany's history and geography, I would be surprised if it spoke a unified language. Then again, I suppose, by that logic, it's astounding that English has so few regional differences here in America.

Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: RedShirt on February 05, 2008, 05:05:49 PM Oh, yeah, that's Frodo.
If anyone's welsh, it's him. :whistling: Title: Re: Switzerland Post by: Casper on February 05, 2008, 08:39:15 PM i'm definitely not welsh. i'm just an american mut. (I’m mostly ukrainian & irish, with some french, german, italian, etc. thrown in for good mesure)
