Yeap that might be true Ryan, I think the graph intentionally makes a very, very conservative estimate of how many God killed, based on numbers we can be sure about. As for the numbers we can't be sure about, that's another story...  :(

Why does the Bible (mostly anyway, the Bible is famous for contradicting itself) insist on depicting God as an angry, vengeful sprit ready to cast us into Hell the moment we step out of line... sure if he were to exist, and he were really like that, he would have destroyed us all by now...

And what about Jesus' message? How does his message of peace of harmony fit with the way the Bible depicts God? Particularly considering that Jesus was himself God incarnate (even though he was a real name who may well have married and had children, as was perfectly normal for Jewish men at the time).

I always wondered about the first point, since despite the world's problems, we'd be in a far worse mess if the God of the bible really existed. In other words, my simple answer to that is most likely the same as yours: such a god doesn't exist, thankfully (of course, other "gods" could exist but that's another question altogether).

As for Jesus, there's disagreement about whether he even existed himself, but even if he did, it seems that his message of peace was slotted into the Jewish canon of writings in quite an artificial manner. Much of our information about Jesus comes from Jewish writers who seemingly based their writings on hearsay, and most importantly on the writings of apostle Paul who definitely didn't meet him. Modern Christianity is essentially a Pauline creation. To me it would be an interesting investigation to try to figure out how Jesus (or whoever it was) had such a huge impact. There is some evidence that a very similar person with a very similar message existed many years before Christ, which would explain why it is so radically different from traditional Jewish religion.

One possible explanation for the pacifist message (an almost Ghandi like peaceful protest) is because the Romans would have crushed a proper rebellion, the political situation was different from centuries earlier (in fact the Jews did try a proper uprising and the Romans destroyed Jerusalem).

Remember that 1: the Bible had different authors to begin with, with a substantial generation gap between old and new testament; 2: the new testament itself is based on various apostles interpretations of Jesus' teachings; and 3) the Bible has been further altered (mainly by romans) to allow for its use as a political tool.  Considering all that, it doesn't surprise me that it contradicts itself.
I remember a story where some eastern monks were deliberating over the bible (this would be a few centuries ago) and they considered some of the teachings as being written by someone "close to buddhahood", while others seemed to be complete nonsense; I think they attributed it to cultural differences.  :lol:

Yet, in spite of the fact that Christians do not know what their religion originally contained, do not wish to understand what they are taught as values and what values truly represent, and of course use their puerile understanding of "morality" to judge the world, it becomes amusingly ridiculous when disgruntled puppies from the same pack whine about how unccomfortable they are with the contradictions of "religion", trying to club all religions with their own pile of trash, unable to distinguish between extremist or hardline misinterpretation and immutable essence!
