Title: Re: Funny commercials Post by: Cpt Ryan on January 13, 2008, 11:11:30 AM hey, i've n 'never pos postedted nonsense nonsense.
... oh wait, god damn it :D. oh yeah and Laz, didnt god kill more than that when he flooded the world or something, not to mention all but 2 of every animal  :sweatdrop:. Title: Re: Funny commercials Post by: Dr. Lazarus on January 13, 2008, 01:51:59 PM Yeap that might be true Ryan, I think the graph intentionally makes a very, very conservative estimate of how many God killed, based on numbers we can be sure about. As for the numbers we can't be sure about, that's another story... :(
Title: Re: Funny commercials Post by: Triarii on January 13, 2008, 03:09:32 PM Why does the Bible (mostly anyway, the Bible is famous for contradicting itself) insist on depicting God as an angry, vengeful sprit ready to cast us into Hell the moment we step out of line... sure if he were to exist, and he were really like that, he would have destroyed us all by now...
And what about Jesus' message? How does his message of peace of harmony fit with the way the Bible depicts God? Particularly considering that Jesus was himself God incarnate (even though he was a real name who may well have married and had children, as was perfectly normal for Jewish men at the time). Title: Re: Funny commercials Post by: Dr. Lazarus on January 13, 2008, 03:21:10 PM I always wondered about the first point, since despite the world's problems, we'd be in a far worse mess if the God of the bible really existed. In other words, my simple answer to that is most likely the same as yours: such a god doesn't exist, thankfully (of course, other "gods" could exist but that's another question altogether).
As for Jesus, there's disagreement about whether he even existed himself, but even if he did, it seems that his message of peace was slotted into the Jewish canon of writings in quite an artificial manner. Much of our information about Jesus comes from Jewish writers who seemingly based their writings on hearsay, and most importantly on the writings of apostle Paul who definitely didn't meet him. Modern Christianity is essentially a Pauline creation. To me it would be an interesting investigation to try to figure out how Jesus (or whoever it was) had such a huge impact. There is some evidence that a very similar person with a very similar message existed many years before Christ, which would explain why it is so radically different from traditional Jewish religion. One possible explanation for the pacifist message (an almost Ghandi like peaceful protest) is because the Romans would have crushed a proper rebellion, the political situation was different from centuries earlier (in fact the Jews did try a proper uprising and the Romans destroyed Jerusalem). Title: Re: Funny commercials Post by: Mortographer on January 14, 2008, 02:33:40 AM Remember that 1: the Bible had different authors to begin with, with a substantial generation gap between old and new testament; 2: the new testament itself is based on various apostles interpretations of Jesus' teachings; and 3) the Bible has been further altered (mainly by romans) to allow for its use as a political tool. Considering all that, it doesn't surprise me that it contradicts itself.
I remember a story where some eastern monks were deliberating over the bible (this would be a few centuries ago) and they considered some of the teachings as being written by someone "close to buddhahood", while others seemed to be complete nonsense; I think they attributed it to cultural differences. Oh, yeah, the commercials are pretty funny. :D Title: Re: Funny commercials Post by: RedShirt on January 14, 2008, 03:19:52 AM Commercials were pretty funny.

Trinity - introduced by Athenagoras. Built on the concept of the Triad. Paul - never met Christ. Entire concept of the modern Bible heresay. At the last meeting with the true Apostles, Paul when questioned about his gentilization of Christianity, mentioned they will benefit from knowing of him. In short you will find that the general premise of the meeting reveals that Yeshu came as the Moshiach of the Jews. Paul felt that gentiles would benefit from knowing of him - nothing more. This same concept is regurgitated in modern Christianity's - through Christ will you achieve Salvation. Earth centre of the universe - Built on Greek gnostic concept of Celestial Spheres Son of God - The phrase itself when used in Aramaic was simply a title to glorify a ruler. Augustus was also Son of God. The entire concept of literalizing the phrase is a result of translation on translation from Aramaic to Koine Greek to Latin and finally to English. Its adoption to explain the emmaculate conception is clearly built on Greek society's need to have a divinified figure as religious head. How else would Greece, where Paul proselytied, accept a religious figure from a desert over their existing figures of Hercules and Perseus. Satan - the biblical elevation of a simple spirit, which is stated in the Old testament as being nothing more than an evil spirit, as stated in Zoroastrianism's Ahriman and Islam's Iblis, surfaced like the rest of the modern Christian Schlock during Roman times, based on the logic that a Hero can only be as large as the villain he defeats. Biblical integrity - the New testament is nothing more than a set of unclaimed letters which have for posterity's sake been assigned to Paul, Luke and John. Authorship cannot be determined. Crucifiction - Nag Hammadi scrolls in the Gospel of Thomas state emphatically that it wasn;t Christ that was placed on the cross, rather Simon of Cyrene. A revelation that confirms the Qur'anic version of christ's crucifiction. Idea of lamb of God is built on simple misidentification, and the need for Christians to riposte to the accusation of the Pharisees that this so called Divine one, couldn't even get himself off the Cross. Would however, interesting to surmise what Christ would have done had he not been crucified. How would he become King of Kings. Upon his return the Bible depicts him as a warrior, coming to wage a war. In his time, given his statements of "I bring not peace, but war", and his violent tirades against people such as the money lenders whom he found to be "sinners", coupled with his esoteric groupism, we see the archetype of Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaida a la Christ! Christianity's spread - Another misrepresentation by Evangelists is the ludicrous claim that Christianity spread by peaceful means. Initial Christianity spread as a sect much like Hare Ramas, gaining sympathy and support less from message or appeal to otherwise pagan audiences, rather from its opposition to Roman oppression. It offered the people a message of the possibility of an alternative to Rome. This appeal was galvanized by Rome's attempts to suppress the movement through executions. However, Christianity was spread in Europe through the forced conversions and proscriptions under the rules of Charlemagne/Karl der Grosse, and Theodosius.. Globally Christianity has spread through colonialism, slavery and conquest. The continents of America and Australia are inhabited by a populace whose ancestors who, after finding justification in the Bible, committed genocide against the Native Indians and Aborigines. The Trail of Tears is one such tragedy. Terrorism - Terrorism was first perpetrated by Hindutva activists who did not agree with Gandhian principles, in their parallel movements for Indian independence. Again a response to Christian colonialism. In Israel the first terrorist bombing was perpetrated against the King David Hotel by today's Likud party. Once more a result of Christian interference in the Middle East. The more we look at it, the more we find gentilised Christianity at the heart of all the world's troubles. Yet, in spite of the fact that Christians do not know what their religion originally contained, do not wish to understand what they are taught as values and what values truly represent, and of course use their puerile understanding of "morality" to judge the world, it becomes amusingly ridiculous when disgruntled puppies from the same pack whine about how unccomfortable they are with the contradictions of "religion", trying to club all religions with their own pile of trash, unable to distinguish between extremist or hardline misinterpretation and immutable essence! Posted on: January 14, 2008, 03:51:43 am Funny commercials though EWM, nice work  Almost as funny as some of the rants that are posted here.
