Title: The Old Man's Maps Post by: The Old Man on August 23, 2007, 09:17:54 AM Another Someone's-Maps-Topic.
Now it's my turn and I'd like to present to you my first journey into map-editing. Finally. :) The Void - Second Edition (2 Players) Features:
Named after the VOY episode I created this two-player map which is completely dark and shows the wonderful glow-effects of V3 PR. Maybe you get sick after a while, because it's quite irritating to actually see nothing. If you ever wanted to really enjoy the new glow-effects: This is your map! If you loved "The Void" (VOY): This is your map! If you love the dark: This is your map! Well, give it a try. Maybe you like it even more, now that the testers' input has been implemented. :) Good hunting! Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: Majed on August 23, 2007, 05:02:01 PM Well, give it a try. Maybe you like it. :) It was a little unuasual to see nothing but the glowing effects, makes targeting a little tricky. But the look of my base was very nice. Thank you for sharing  Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: MutantHippie on August 25, 2007, 12:17:37 PM i got to agree, it all looks pretty kick ass when all you can see is the lights on the ships :d pretty kick ass :P
Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: redmanmark86 on August 25, 2007, 01:11:23 PM i have to admit it myself its a pretty kickass map, things look very pretty when they blow up and the one moon set does sort of make it challenging... only i think there should defo be atleast two... let me state my reasons why...
If your the dominion your find it impossible to build a fleet.... for the dominion you need atleast two moonsets.. usually two and a half.... now the other reason is... everyoen will just destroyer spam which is no fun.... thirdly i just kicked the AI's but on hard... but saying that... that won't my recreated AI.... Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: The Old Man on August 25, 2007, 02:16:31 PM Thanks for your input guys and your compliments! I'm glad to read you're enjoying "The Void". :D
I'll add an additional set of moons as you suggested, redmanmark86. When I made the map I didn't think of the Dominion in the first instance, that's right. So, there's a second edition to come. Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: redmanmark86 on August 25, 2007, 02:40:19 PM now all i need to do is find someone to play me in it... be interesting to play someone as you have to cover your base form all angels...
Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: The Old Man on August 25, 2007, 02:46:58 PM now all i need to do is find someone to play me in it... be interesting to play someone as you have to cover your base form all angels... I'd really like to take the challenge but I've got a frakkin problem connecting to games which hasn't been solved yet. :( EDIT It's done and I've uploaded a new version of "The Void" which should be more Dominion-friendly now. ;) To download the new version please scroll up to the first post. The zip-file has been replaced. AND: Since you seem to like "The Void" there's more stuff to come. :) Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: Dominus_Noctis on August 25, 2007, 09:19:33 PM Yeah, it's definitely a cool map... can you make more, please? :woot:
Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: The Old Man on August 25, 2007, 09:38:06 PM Here you go - the second map!
The Dark (2 Players) Features:
Inspired by the TNG episode "Night Terrors" I decided to create this map. Though it actually doesn't have anything in common with the system the Enterprise was in back then. The eyes in the dark - the two ice-suns. Well, this is your map, if you like blue, ice and one kind of nebula we don't come to see very often on maps. Actually it's designed to look nice. :sweatdrop: The next ones are going to be different and larger then, designed for more than two players. I hope you guys enjoy this one, too. Good hunting! Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: The Old Man on August 30, 2007, 08:31:30 PM Teaser: Abandoned (6 Players)
So, finally here's a teaser for my next upcoming map. (Mean, isn't it? Weird.. isn't it?! ) As promised it will be a map for more than two players! Besides more opponents it will offer:
Three pics for you to tease you even more ;) The map is about 80 % complete. I've decided to make it a 6-Player map. I'm going to upload the map after my vacation (in about two weeks) where I won't have internet. Stay tuned and of course: Enjoy the pics  Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: MutantHippie on August 30, 2007, 11:27:03 PM aww you tease
Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: Dominus_Noctis on August 31, 2007, 02:01:16 AM Lookin' forward to it :woot:
Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: RedShirt on August 31, 2007, 02:43:35 AM Indeed.
Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: The Old Man on August 31, 2007, 03:06:49 PM I've uploaded two new screenies taken from "Abandoned" for you. Please scroll up ;)
(I'm not sure if changed posts make the thread appear as "new" on the list of unread threads.. does anyone know for sure? :sweatdrop: ) Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: Dominus_Noctis on August 31, 2007, 08:04:33 PM awwww, that's sweet looking! How did you manage to tilt the buildings (or are just the units tilted...)
Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: The Old Man on August 31, 2007, 08:42:46 PM The Cloaking Generator you can see on pic 2 and the Research Station on pic 3 are indeed tilted. It's easy to do with the map editor.
So you might guess by now that neither the Cloaking Generator nor the Research Station were built. ^-^ They are usable map-objects for a special reason or in other words part of the background-story. :cloak:  Thanks by the way for your comment about the shots! I hope the map itself will be as enjoyable as the pics seem to be. :) Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: RedShirt on August 31, 2007, 11:45:55 PM I've never before seen a station given an axial tilt in A2 before. Kudos for the superb pics!
Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: The Old Man on September 01, 2007, 10:04:16 PM As a small present to you I decided to upload this small 4-Player-map before my vacation. Again I hope you'll enjoy it! Thanks for your support and comments so far! You're a great audience
Rapture (4 Players) Features:
Your base is set. Your construction-ships head out and start building. You gather resources. You build a fleet. You move out. You crush your enemy. This time it's different. Experience some rapture - by surviving the fight for resources. (I'd suggest to play against at least three opponents since it's quite easy to win against one opponent quite easy in the early stages of the game. The Dilithium-moon close to each starting-point was added for the AI since you basically need more Dilithium for small ships than Tritanium. Without this moon the map is more challenging for human players. It's just to give the AI a better chance since she has an absolutely inappropriate economy-management which makes her run out of resources quite fast if she's contained to the area around the starting-point.) If you want a fast-paced map with lots of small battles - and you aren't afraid of destroyer-spam - you might like to give this one a try. Good hunting! Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: redmanmark86 on September 01, 2007, 10:23:20 PM hey Old Man, im going to be nice and let you in on a little secret since i modded FO a little bit when i had time and was doing my own race add on...
the AI can only see Dillithium moons... it can't see Tri as the Arnmada 2 engine doesn't understand that resource be default neither does the AI... Secondly and this will spoil it for everyone... the AI doesn't actually aquire resources... its mining is completely fake... it just follows the build order its been given... it could have no moons and as long as its built its mining statiion it will continue to build the rest... i hope that makes sense? Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: The Old Man on September 01, 2007, 10:27:54 PM Thanks for the information!
I didn't know that and now it's absolutely clear to my why these maps suck agains AI-players... So I could also have left the starting-point-moons out of the map since they don't really have the effect they should have. Uhm.. so.. maybe.. take the map... and fight against humans. :sweatdrop: Hope you like it anyway somehow. Thanks for clearing things up for me, redmanmark! :) Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: redmanmark86 on September 01, 2007, 10:46:36 PM its cool mate, i am working on another lil project for you (when i say you, i reckon your use it alot) that i will release more information on at a later date...
Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: The Old Man on September 01, 2007, 10:55:20 PM Sounds interesting. :)
I'm looking forward to it - whatever it will be - though it will take a while until I can check back here. Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: RedShirt on September 01, 2007, 11:21:13 PM Old Man, I was wondering if you'd be willing to vindicate something for me.
I've always wanted to redo my map, Divided, for v3pr, but my map editor went5 kaput and isn't recognizing the F# key macros. Would you be willing to do the map for me? The original is here: http://www.fleetops.net/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,3/topic,2312.0/ (http://www.fleetops.net/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,3/topic,2312.0/) If I recall, the dl count puts it as the most downloaded FO map ever... I'd have to check the count on the newer ones, though... Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: The Old Man on October 23, 2007, 06:56:37 AM Hello all!
I'm sorry for being inactive such a long time. I didn't expect so much work to come. I just wanted to tell you two things: 1. My map-projects are off the table until I really have time for them. I'm sorry for that. 2. I'm back and I will try to post more often again. Good to be back. Hope you think the same  ;) Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: Dominus_Noctis on October 23, 2007, 10:09:59 PM Hey, welcome back! Sorry you have too much work, but I'm sure that we all hope that you'll be back to making maps soon enough. :D
Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: Mortographer on January 28, 2008, 12:30:53 AM Did you ever finish abandoned?
Title: Re: The Old Man's Maps Post by: Triarii on January 28, 2008, 01:15:17 AM You know, the Rapture map reminds me of something I once did using a Yardwar map in Armada I... I set it to 'standard units' instead of 'map units' (I can't remember if I set it to free tech or not, though) and gave each player 10K Dil... It was actually pretty fun (I won that game, BTW), though it gives the Klingons a slight edge because their ships are slightly cheaper and the Borg a slight disadvantage because their ships are slightly more expensive...
