Title: Updated beta loader - Vista compatibility
Post by: DOCa Cola on May 27, 2007, 01:15:43 PM
Here you go. An updated loader for Fleet Operations 3 PR. This one should run with Vista also. Still, this is beta so report back any issues. The loader codebase is still 3 PR so there are no new features. just a bit bugfixing. This update also works for xp.

How to install:
  • First make sure you have installed Fleet Operations 3 PR patch 1
  • Delete FleetOps.map from your Fleet Operations directory
  • Extract FleetOps.exe and FleetOps.mad to your FleetOperations dir and replace existing files (note the difference between mad and map!)

Note: this update also includes a no CD patch to circumvent problems for vista users. If you have replaced your armada2.tgt with a cracked one, please undo this change when using the updated loader

Note for vista users: This is no fix for the installer issue when decoding audio. I think your only option is to install Fleet Operations on a prior-Vista OS and copy it over to your Vista machine then.

Update 28.05.07
Speaker beeping fix
Update 04.07.07
added updated NetworkManager.dll for Vista online gaming compatibility
Update 19.09.07
"not enough memory" Fix

So we install the Fleet OPS (for Vista) then apply this patch and delete the proper files.  So I guess what Im asking is that we deal with the decoder errors then after hitting enter a whole bunch to clear the errors we apply this patch to the Fleet OPS folder?

Ok this works but when the game is finally loaded it crashes to desktop.  I can see the menu but no gaming  :crybaby:
We need :borg: to solve this lol j/k

EDIT: This only applies to the feds.

Hi, I downloaded this patch for my brother, because of the no-cd feature. He runs on windows xp and everything works, only his laptop keeps bleeping after this patch. (only when fleetops is launched)

and this update is also included at the installation of V3?

Title: Re: Updated beta loader - Vista compatibility/No CD patch
Post by: Deletham_Tomalak on May 30, 2007, 12:16:17 AM
Yeah still crashes.  I'll try a reinstall.  Any recommendations?  Just to be clear, however, I install normally which causes the sound decoding errors correct?  I end this decoding via task manager.  I then finish installation.  Apply patch.  Then replace and delete stated files.  Correct?

Title: Re: Updated beta loader - Vista compatibility/No CD patch

you should install fleet operations on an xp (virtual) machine and then copy fleet operations over to your vista box afterwards.

Um would installing it on an XP machine with an attached portable usb harddrive work?  Then copy that to the directory?  Also, what do you mean by virtual machine

yes, that would work, then just copy it over to vista and patch it
Quote
Also, what do you mean by virtual machine
just an alternative to people who don't have access to other computers could have used a virtual machine. a software emulated computer inside your computer where you could have installed xp on ;) like vmware or virtualpc

have you tried installing on an XP system, and then simply copying the files over to Vista?

I used the XP VM to install the game, copied its files to Vista and installed the fix DC made for Vista.  It works great!

To whom it may concern...
I think this step by step instruction can help a lot of people with the same problem i have been experiencing.

I am getting the following error message when i am trying to load FO.
"Star trek armada 2 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working corretly. Windows will close the program and notify if a solution is available."

I have done the following to load FO on my vista machine.
1) Download FOSetup3PR in a XP computer with the Armada II cd.
2) Copied the file "Activision" in the program file in the XP machine and pasted in in the Vista Program files on my computer
3) Downloaded FleetOps3PRPatch1 in my Star Trek Armada II Fleet Operations directory.
4) Downloaded  fleetopsmultimedia1 in my Star Trek Armada II Fleet Operations directory.
5) Deleted the file "Fleetops.map" from the Star Trek Armada II Fleet Operations directory.

Doca Cola said that we have to extract Fleetops.mad and Fleetops.exe to the FO directory... but where do we get those files from?

What else can i do to NOT get armada II to stop working on vista?

Thanks Doca Cola.. the game works almost perfectly. The only problem with replacing the files is that it causes the game to crash when you use the klingon attack probes.. any advice?

Title: Re: Updated beta loader - Vista compatibility

thats a known bug, fixed in the patch i believe.

Title: Re: Updated beta loader - Vista compatibility

Thanks for answering so quickly.

I have installed FOsetup3PR, which it supposed to have fixed the klingon attack probe,

I am not sure, but I think something to do with replacing the files as Doca Cola instructed when trying to install on Vista caused this.

Can there be a file or patch to correct this?

I'm still having trouble loading flops on vista. I copied all the files from activision from xp (but maybe if someone could send them to me again that would be nice...), ran the patch and multimedia, deleted the .map and extracted from the zip (and overwrit the .dl manager, and other things)

Still no success. Half the time it refuses to load, the rest of the time armada ii "stops working"
 :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby: :(

I must update that, sorry. I now (for the past 2 weeks) have NO trouble using fleet ops on my vista computer. I just re-re-ported it and did everything the team said to do. It now works, Huzzzah. I suggest you go the same route (hopefully it will work too!!)!!

Hi I'm still having difficulties loading UP Fleetops after reading the previous posts.

I followed the instruction as precisely as I could yet the "bug error" still pops up everytime I try to load it on Vista.

So this is what I did 3 times now, so please forgive me if i did something stupid in the process... xD

1] Downloaded the FOSetup3PR and downloaded the VM Program
2] Installed XP onto the VM program [no problem] then activated the setup files [FOSetup3PR] with the Armada II CD
3] Copy the entire directory of Activision folder from XP VM and replace it with my old Activision folder on Vista
4] Downloaded the following patchs; fleetopsmultimedia1, FleetOps3PRPatch1, and update [from the first post]
5] I activated the setup program with FleetOps3PR Patch 1 and installed it succefully on PC
6] Installed fleetopsmultimedia1 but Vista informed me that the program was install improperly, so I reinstalled it again no problems
7] Deleted the FleetOps.map and then extracted the update files to directory
8] Ran the application; BUG pops up!

The only thing i didn't understand is where can I get or extract the FleetOps.exe and FleetOps.mad files to place in my directory ...? Was that the files in the update pack..?

OR should i jsut report this bug to Microsoft and see how they can deal with it...?

Thanks in advance.

where did you put the game when you moved it to Vista? if you stuck it in program files and aren't auto admin escalating then yes it will crash everytime because of UAC...

i have my Flops folder on my desktop, works just fine as UAC ignores it, try that...

Title: Re: Updated beta loader - Vista compatibility
Post by: jiffster on September 19, 2007, 03:33:36 PM
Basically I put it in the Activation folder after initially installating Star Trek Armada II. After i installed the FLEETOPS onto the VM; XP; and copy it on the shared folder between my VM and my Original OS; Vista.

Copy the entire folder; Star Trek Armada II Fleet Operations File Folder
Pasted it into the Activation file folder along side with Star Trek Armada II File Folder
Installed the FO3PRPatch1, then the multimedia pack --> and then deleted the FleetOps.map --> then installed the "update.rar" file from the First post and pasted it into  Star Trek Armada II File Fleet Operations Folder

Try running the Fleetops.exe file but a bug pops up! and the application fails to load and I don' know what UAC but i wll find out. [I ran the Fleetops.exe file within the STAII Fleet Operation File Folder]

So yeah, this is basically what  I did to install the game on Vista... [I hate vista.. =(]

Installer runs without error in safe mode.... but you still get the error at start-up hopefilly this patch will fix things... emulating XP just for an install is ridiculous... if these files need to install and then be copied why not offer the files on the site instead of require tedious messing around with OS emulation...

UPDATE: Works flawlessly by replacing these three files found in the zip.... so install in safe mode and replace the files... completly functioning in Vista....

Capt. Ryan,
I am new to the forums, but have been a member for a while now.  I was just reading the problem encountered by Getready2die regarding the Klingon Attack Probes on the Bortas vessel, as I have encountered the same issue myself.  I read your reply, stating, "thats a known bug, fixed in the patch i believe."  What patch were you referring to?  The V3PR Patch 1?

I don't think it has actually been fixed for V3 PR (I always encounter it).  :( However, for the full V3 the bug is said to be banished  :D

I can also confirm that this worked flawlessly.
Boot to safe mode (tap f8 during boot)
install fleet ops/patch/media
replaced the 2 files

And then you can boot like normal and it works np. (i installed to a folder on my desktop)

Hi, im new around here.

I've spent the last hour  :crybaby: trying to get this to work on my vista :( (home premium ). I still can't even get to the menu. I've got an annoying feeling that I missing something obvious, so if someone could write a step by step quide that an idiot could understand (ie me) I would greatly appeciate it.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. This looks like a realy great game. i realy like the sound of the adaptable borg ships! :borg:

Title: Re: Updated beta loader - Vista compatibility
Post by: Dominus_Noctis on March 23, 2008, 09:05:09 PM
Ok.
First, install Fleet Ops V3PR on an XP computer. That means use the official patch, the media patch, and the actual game.
Second, copy the Star Trek folder with Fleet Ops and paste it to your vista computer in your My Documents using a flash disk or cd or LAN. Don't put it in your program files (UAC will be engaged and make it not work)
Third, download the zip from the first page, first post, of this thread and extract.
Fourth, delete .map from your star trek folder and replace with .mad and also add that other file from the extracted zip (a grand total of two files)
Fifth, play  :woot:

I hope that's good enough

Sorry to break the news, but there is no Borg in this version, only in the upcoming release (sorry if you already knew that though  :sweatdrop: )

Not really  :( ; after I removed FO from my program files... everything worked out (by the way, I take it you did use xp to install v3 pr originally?)... possibly follow the other set of directions here: supposedly this works too

"I can also confirm that this worked flawlessly.

i started my pc in save modus, installed the FO in my unsername/documents folder

im not really a pc pro ... so just say what additional infos you need

Hmmm... sorry to say I don't know what's wrong.  :crybaby: I myself used the xp route for vista...
The last thing I can suggest is also installing the media file... but I don't think that'll have any effect. Maybe somebody else here knows something about it  :pinch:

If you really want to get it working, you could always try the other method if you have access to an xp computer...
