Title: STILL having Vista problems Post by: StratoGuy2003 on May 04, 2007, 06:21:26 AM I'm new here, and I just downloaded my PR version of FleetOps (v3). I had the same 'decoder' error as discussed previously. I have the latest release of the game, and I can't get past the decoder error. And if I cancel the decoder using the Task Manager, the game finishes it's install. However, the game will not load properly. It won't even get past the splash screen. Is there an issue with my version of the game, or is there something I missed.
Can anyone help? Thanks! Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: DOCa Cola on May 04, 2007, 12:11:06 PM the final version of version 3 has vista support. there are two major bugs in the installer and the launcher preventing fleet operations to work on vista.

Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: DOCa Cola on May 09, 2007, 10:59:21 PM i don't know. i do not use vista yet. so if there is a way, vista users may have the answer.
Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: Admiral Adama on May 09, 2007, 11:34:14 PM it can't be to far off
Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: StratoGuy2003 on May 13, 2007, 12:41:52 PM It better not be too far off.
I've been itching to get my hands on the final release since day one of the Beta 2 test... Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: The Old Man on May 13, 2007, 10:14:53 PM It's quite funny because Windows should be Windows. Usually that's what one expects of a product.
Which version of Vista do you use? Never try "Home Basic" or "Home Premium". As far as I can tell by experience both aren't really worth the money you have to spent for. They are only causing trouble. I'd suggest Vista Ultimate (OEM). It's not too expensive and seems to work fine. At least I haven't met anyone complaining about it. But if it is an option for you, take your XP-CD and think about using Vista again in some months or even later. By then things could be better (patches etc). Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: DOCa Cola on May 14, 2007, 12:36:51 PM it may work with full administrator rights and disabled uac as vista users usually get "File access denied." exceptions (in debug reports i received) when trying to start the launcher.
Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: Kaidus on May 18, 2007, 06:12:33 PM If you want to install it on Vista, try installing it into your Documents folder, for some reason that actually works.
Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: Admiral Adama on May 19, 2007, 04:46:09 PM thats a good idea! install it in shared doc. then see what happens
Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: StratoGuy2003 on May 22, 2007, 09:20:45 AM Just tried that, it still didn't work. Got farther into the debugger though before it crashed... >:(
Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: Kaidus on May 22, 2007, 07:53:14 PM Oh, mine finished, but I'm having CD issues now...
Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: StratoGuy2003 on May 23, 2007, 10:10:37 AM Yeah, I guess we Vista users are going to have to wait for the final release. Doca says that it should work, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed none-the-less.

Doca says that it should work, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed none-the-less. atleast the current development version runs fine in a virtual machine with vista's UAC enabled.anyway, i haven't found out what i causing the loader problems on vista anyway. it should have worked atleast after disabling UAC Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: Sugar Spice on May 23, 2007, 03:56:09 PM Fraking Vista! What is UAC and how do you disable it for FleetOps?
Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: Eufnoc on May 23, 2007, 06:08:15 PM Though I have not tried it personally, I am assured that it works. though if the game is not Vista Compatible (and there are a few) even this workaround will not help.
- First of all you will need an Administrator Account (without this you can't do anything) from the User Account Control system (UAC) - Download and install FO - go to the Installation folder - for every program file (those that end in .exe), right click on it and do properties>compatibility>launch the program as administrator in Windows XP compatibility mode (it should be something like that - I'm translating from a French forum here) This infact removes the virtualisation of the program (something made for Vista that is supposed to make programs more stable - not good if the original program wasn't designed for it) if you have the "Ultimate" version of Vista then apparently the virtualisation is automatic. but you will have to completley disactivate the UAC for this to work. Now if you do have any questions then please ask. still i am note sure if 3 PR works with disabled UAC Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: Admiral Adama on May 24, 2007, 12:21:47 AM why is it that 3.0PR doesn't work but 3.0 will?
Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: DOCa Cola on May 24, 2007, 08:33:06 AM we have two bugs, one in the installer which was my fault, a very dump programming fault in mp3 decoding where vista seems to be more sensitive as windows xp was.
and a second bug i am not sure yet about if its me or vista causing this i/o file error. i fixed the installer fix in the final and again i reprogrammed the fleet operations loader from scratch for the final version. the new loader is not only UAC compatible but makes Armada UAC compatible too. compared to the 3pr loader the new loader is much more advanced and cleaner. Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: StratoGuy2003 on May 27, 2007, 11:18:43 AM Excellent news!
So, DOCa, any news or plans on a 3.1PR for us Vista users? Or are we stuck drooling over screenshots and XP-user reviews... Title: Re: STILL having Vista problems Post by: DOCa Cola on May 27, 2007, 12:00:29 PM ok guys, i see what i can do. i try to make a patch for the loader issue but i can't fix the installer decoding bug of course.
