Title: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: Mortographer on February 15, 2007, 04:47:15 AM
Canaveral class:  I find it really annoying that i can't aim the probe.  I have to manually turn the ship and it flys all over the place in  the process.

Monsoon class:  It just looks a little silly firing those two phasers at the same time...maybe one phaser twice as fast?  Also, considering it's short range, it won't move very far to engage an enemy that it's being attacked by.

Shield repair:  My last suggestion (for a while, at least  ;) ) is that when shields go down, they can't try to regenerate on their own until a few seconds after they were hit by a weapon.  This way it would remove the shield animation that keeps coming up  several seconds after they failed.  It would also make transporter attacks a little easier, as they sometimes don't work b/c your opponent's vessel managed to regenerate 1 point of shield energy.

EDIT: on second thought, scratch what i said about the monsoon, it doesn't really matter and there are more important things to be done!   B)

Yes, maybe the probe could be like a ship, well be a ship, with a limited life span. I don't really know how you can do that...but I think it's possible.

It doesn't have to be like a ship, sounds like to much micro to me, just some sort of targeting reticle for the cursor like several other special weapons and when I click it shoots out in that direction.
Also, I have a question:  why do some ships, like the norway, which are unique to an avatar list avatar bonuses?  You can't even get that ship without the avatar!

Well its the hole point of having avatars, you have to choose one to get specific things then you have to live with your choice. Or start a new game,

Slightly off topic, is it true that it's impossible to have more than 2 avatars per race?

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...

apparantly not, theres talk of bringing in more avatars, and someone acutally modding V3 PR to have a 3rd avatar choice. although to be fair i aint sure where though, but i do remember hearing it.

Cool more avatars. Now the team will have to think of more variety to ships abilities and if they should add ships or stations to those specific avatars.

silly question but cant you use the evolution thing (noxter and 8472 thing) for the avatars but make the build time like 0.5 of a second that way you'll be able have as many avatars as u wish well upto the maximum that u can have build items and if you only have a short build time it'll seam almost instant and there should be no shell (cacoon exploding part) visable

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: RedShirt on April 14, 2007, 06:55:07 PM
I believe that the Avatars are technology, and therefore not represented on the screen.

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: apoclaydon on April 14, 2007, 10:32:22 PM
yeah but with the evolution thing u could have the starbase with no weapons and just the ability to choose the avatars and wen u do the it changes (same model tho) to have weapons and its proper build stuff (no avatar build buttons at all)

I see what you're saying, but, really, I'd rather see them working on new textures/models.

[w00t post #1900]

yeah that'll be better just thought to give that susgestion to help ppl to have more than 2 avatars

I was thinking maybe an after-release content patch.

you do realise if there were as many avatars as build items for each race, then the d/l for the whole thing would go way past the 1Gb range.

Ryan Ryan Ryan, thats a good thing, it means i can make money burning and sending DVDs of the game, think big man big! lol

the shield thing has bugged me for a while, i wonder if there is a way to set the ships so that when you tell them to beam over they fire till the shields are down, beam, and when the shields come back up shoot them down and beam again. i know you can do it manuly but its to much micro, and you have to do it so fast if you have a big fleet working on it.

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: apoclaydon on April 15, 2007, 04:42:33 PM
i dnt mean to actually make as many avatars as possible i ment it as a solution if u want to make a mod for it but would like an extra avatar like the cardassian mod u'll b able to have the cardassian avatar breen avatar and just dominion avatar

also [F-I-I]VAdm-MJP i dnt think it would b allowed for ppl to make money from this mod/game

lol i know i was joking. lol i have sent the game out before though, as a gift to some guy in Australia, his computer wouldn't let him DL it.
and honestly if it did get over a gig and we needed DvDs to send them out i would do the first 50 for free then charge the shipping.

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...

the ships with marines had a button that beamed troops over as soon as shields were down

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...

Thats right the Iwo Jima. i havnt played A2 in so long just FO. so think that feature but it continues after  after shileds go back up. like i get shields down transport and the a few seconds later my fleet is blowing up the target couse the shields had gone back up.

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: Admiral Adama on April 15, 2007, 05:38:46 PM
if there was a sacond transporter button like that...
it would be relatively simple to add it to all ships right?

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: RFO-M.J.Pulaskee on April 15, 2007, 05:40:35 PM
I would think so, would make that game play way easer.

one of the rew suggestions woth looking at doca?

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...

I will take a look at the transporter attack button, could be possible to add it :)

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: Cpt Ryan on April 16, 2007, 10:43:49 AM
you know thats never happened to me, once ive started to beam over, i either take over the ship or run out of people.
i honestly didnt know it could do that, because once you start beamimg over both ships' shield generaters are disabled (ie. shields cannot recharge).

thinking about it this will probably only happen if the ship your taking over has a very fast shield recharge rate.

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: Admiral Adama on April 16, 2007, 07:07:21 PM
generaly those are the ones most worth taking over

Where... exactly... are we going to put it again?

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...

on all ships so that as soon as the shields are down the ship starts beaming over

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: RedShirt on April 18, 2007, 02:50:21 AM
But wouldn't that waste an awful lot of crew?

plus, it'd be unrealistic.  NOBODY boards every ship....

Red,
think of the Iwo Jima in A2 that setting.

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...

you just choose to use it: its not automatic

That, on the other hand, is much better.

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: Admiral Adama on April 18, 2007, 11:17:01 PM
the iwo jima was TERIBLE!  what could you do with it?  is was almost as weak as a venture.  a sb would pick of 3 fleets before its shields were even down!  not to metion the 500 crew per ship!
500!?WTF?

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: RedShirt on April 19, 2007, 12:02:35 AM
Even the design sucked.

I'm so glad the FO team ditched that hunk of scrap...

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: Admiral Adama on April 19, 2007, 12:04:10 AM
it looked like a reverse saber.
and it had the weapon values of 2 ventures
(some of you may think that was a joke...it wasn't)

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: RedShirt on April 19, 2007, 12:08:22 AM
And it was tiny.  I think they packed the marines in two-inch cubes...

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: Admiral Adama on April 19, 2007, 12:10:07 AM
how may crew did a defiant have?  well it was smaller than that

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: RedShirt on April 19, 2007, 12:13:58 AM
It actually had 40 crew; 80 in the game I think...

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: Admiral Adama on April 19, 2007, 12:17:21 AM
so thats like 6 people in an iwo jima to the space of 1 in a defiant?
damn
that suks

25 people share a sonic shower.

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: Cpt Ryan on April 19, 2007, 11:38:14 AM
your complaining about the crew count on it? its a ship of friggin marines ::) if it were any smaller a number you'd be complaining about it not having enough crew to take over anything.

Yes the design was sucky, and yes it was scaled wrongly but same could be said about most things ingame. I mean the you wanna complain about crew costs, the cube had just 600 drones for crying out loud. You'd be justified in complaining about that, hell id complain with you. But dont start with something that was clearly done for functionality.

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: RedShirt on April 19, 2007, 07:43:59 PM
Two reasons:

1) Because the ship is so small.  It makes no sense.

2) Because of the obnoxiously high crew cost required for such a stinky ship.

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: Cpt Ryan on April 20, 2007, 11:31:08 AM
1) scale was done all wrong across the board, and FYI the Jannisary was even smaller yet the same crew.

2) Its not obnoxiously high for a ship supposedly full of marines

also note that the high crew cost can be accounted for the (relatively) small length of time each ship would be deployed for, before it comes back to base/drydock.

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: RedShirt on April 20, 2007, 09:11:23 PM
I was speaking from a realistic viewpoint in the first observation, but a gameplay viewpoint on the second.  I believe that you have been coming from the exact opposite viewpoint on each.

Therefore, a misunderstanding.

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: Optec on April 21, 2007, 12:53:39 PM
i personally would not like to board every ship, i think boarding became a little to important in armada. i like it the way it is now. you can board a ship if you are lucky, but basically they are your opponent.. and who wants picard sitting on the bridge of a vorcha :)
to compensate this we added the techtrade and mixed-tech to add a real goal to boarding - catching constructors - and to gain the advantages in multiplayer by trading with your friends.
there will of course still be special ships - like the Tavara - which will be a real help in boarding units.. or the Borg if course, where assimilation is a key playstyle feature.

a marine ship should be huge.  like sov size(i think it had more crew than a sov)

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: RedShirt on April 22, 2007, 03:43:18 AM
I think a Sovy realistically has between 600 and 800 crewmembers...

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...
Post by: Admiral Adama on April 22, 2007, 03:52:05 AM
true but i simply ment that ingame a sov has 400 and is 3 times the size of a 500 crew ship.  its so stupid

Title: Re: A Couple Suggestions...

Yeah, that's true.  I hate the A2 'scaling'...

they din't consider alot of factors.  like the stupidity of warp
