Title: Star Trek Online Post by: Mortographer on February 02, 2007, 03:00:39 AM How many people are going to get star trek online (if they don't cancel it) ? It would be great if we created a fleetops "crew", on board some huge starship, then traverse the galaxy spreading word of fleetops! Of course, at this point we have no idea how that will work, what positions will be available on the starship, what ships there are, etc. But anyway, this will probably be the first pay-per-month game I get. Thoughts?
Title: Star Trek Online Post by: Jan on February 02, 2007, 03:05:27 PM I'll probably get it because of being active in st-galaxy staff. And as Legacy is such a flop I'm doing what we all can best...waiting for a new game and STO is the only ST game that is in development and it sounds very interesting. If I don't get the game through st-galaxy I'll probably buy it but first have a trial version. Each game could be the worst crap ever found it's way to humankind...you know todays publishers are not easy to trust ;) *coughBethesdacough*
Title: Star Trek Online Post by: Frodo on February 05, 2007, 10:38:47 PM i aint paying to play the game!
Title: Star Trek Online Post by: Cpt Ryan on February 06, 2007, 03:47:00 PM hey there, i still respect bathesda for their work on Oblivion :P
And like frodo said, why pay for a Game then pay again for the priviledge of actually playing it? :x Title: Star Trek Online Post by: Frodo on February 06, 2007, 06:58:48 PM it kind of puts a downer on the game and it would have to be the best game EVER to be considered worth paying to play. surely they can make money off advertising or something to fund the servers etc
Title: Star Trek Online Post by: Rhaz on February 07, 2007, 12:01:34 AM Oblivion was amazing, hands down.
Bethesda just has no Star Trek veterancy and thus cannot be expected to make a legendary game in that genre, when they are used to the rpg genre. Either way... STO p2p? GTFO. Title: Star Trek Online Post by: Mortographer on February 15, 2007, 01:55:11 PM I know you just won't be able to resist! (http://www.igda.org/sf/images/events/0607/sto_1.jpg)

Title: Star Trek Online Post by: |PX|Kern on February 21, 2007, 02:22:44 PM Jes looks like they need to work on their registry numbers  .If the Thunderchild in its 60's digits causes confusion then what will the Perpetual do?
But I thought ST:O was one of those games where you download it?Well if it's sold in shops then I doubt Perpetual will be as scaby as the makers of WoW.Look how more successful Guild Wars is simply because there isn't a monthly fee.People will be flocking to play this cause Legacy is so bad,so there isn't a need for a monthly fee. And all 15 tubes you say?I know which Ship I'm looking to get stationed on :shifty: Title: Star Trek Online Post by: Cpt Ryan on February 22, 2007, 03:07:49 PM Quote People will be flocking to play this cause Legacy is so bad,so there isn't a need for a monthly fee. Me thinks they will charge it anyway -_- Title: Star Trek Online Post by: ewm90 on February 22, 2007, 11:41:13 PM STO is made by a hole difrent groop of manufachers than STL it will be nuthink like lecrap
Title: Star Trek Online Post by: Smoerebroed on February 23, 2007, 09:22:17 AM Quote STO is made by a hole difrent groop of manufachers than STL it will be nuthink like lecrap i hope for guys. I hope; i would even pray, but I'm atheistic, so no prays Title: Star Trek Online Post by: |PX|Kern on February 23, 2007, 10:45:28 PM Well from the start you can tell it isn't going to be anything like legacy.Legacy was an attempt to re-create SFC with better graphics and gameplay...Bethesda failed miserably.
ST:O is much more...well it's for the more cannon loving people, the role players you used to always see in Bridge Commander servers. It's WoW meets Star Trek.Replace the Warlocks & all that with the Borg or whatever they've brought in for this and make all the changes and you have ST:O.Well I know it's a lot deeper than that but thats the best way to describe it.And cause the whole game is online there is no way Perpetual can f**k up on the connections cause they can't afford to. Title: Star Trek Online Post by: Smoerebroed on February 24, 2007, 04:58:15 PM Quote Well from the start you can tell it isn't going to be anything like legacy.Legacy was an attempt to re-create SFC with better graphics and gameplay...Bethesda failed miserably. um... and there I see the problem: Because i think that Perpetual will come up with two things: a good MMORPG game or a good Star-Trek RPG (i.e.: i fear that a lot of Star Trek RPG Fans will not like St:O because it is not "canon" enough for them and if Perpetual makes a game for those "hardcore" Star Trek RPG fans then no one else will play it; the other question is: how are you gonna put the life of a Starfleet officer into a RPG game, that makes fun. Well unless the first impressions/ reports of the beta phase, which is scheduled for Summer this year if i am correct, i doubt that they will come up with anything "good"ST:O is much more...well it's for the more cannon loving people, the role players you used to always see in Bridge Commander servers. In the worst case scenario it's going to be a clon of WoW -> bring me 10 Datapads from the Alpha-Ceti Station; Scan 20 class IV comets and bring me the results; Bring me 25 exotic plants from 25 uncharted planets in sector $somewhere [...........] Title: Star Trek Online Post by: Mortographer on March 16, 2007, 02:49:42 AM http://www.startrekonline.com/news/ (http://www.startrekonline.com/news/)
There are several interviews here which you should find very enlightening. I really do think they're going to do a great job, and they even say you can choose how strict you want your experience to be, so it looks like it might appeal to both trekkies and casual gamers. A year and a half to go, assuming it won't be postponed. Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: Mortographer on April 15, 2007, 12:11:44 AM Well, alot more info has come out; and while it looks very unlikely that it will be canceled now, i must say it seems less appealing. Namely, captains are the pilots-which really pisses me off. Also, there won't be any ship interiors for player ships, and only a few people can be on a ship, which means a large group of people would have to form an entire fleet! This isn't neccessarily bad, but I'd miss the experience of being on a ship with alot of other people exploring the ditant reaches of the galaxy. There's also the fact that many of the larger ships like sovy or galaxy will simply not be available for players. Half of the game is personally walking around in an environment, though, and not much info has been released on that yet.
Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: RedShirt on April 15, 2007, 01:12:57 AM No.. player... ship... interiors...

Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: Admiral Adama on April 18, 2007, 11:10:04 PM its probably better than any a3 anyways. they would just screw it up again
Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: RedShirt on April 19, 2007, 03:16:09 AM Indeed. Activision has a bad record with these things.
Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: Admiral Adama on April 19, 2007, 10:08:53 PM bad? no its worse than that. they have the game making skills of a turd
Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: Mortographer on April 19, 2007, 10:21:43 PM yes >:( >:( You have a problem with borg??borg:democrcats :assimilate: Anyway, let's look at the positive side of things. Daron said he didn't like legacy, so we can at least assume the combat's going to be better than that. Also, hubs will be huge completely mapped-out interiors, so it's not like we'll never experience turbolifts and mess halls and all that good stuff! Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: Admiral Adama on April 19, 2007, 11:23:55 PM i just can't wait to blow up someones ship. also-how will you said captains will fly the ships. will there be higher ranks than captain. and can you play as romulans , borg etc.
Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: ewm90 on April 20, 2007, 01:20:11 AM So is STL was SFC and STO is SW Galaxy than when is STAs replacement coming :woot:   ???

Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: Mortographer on April 20, 2007, 01:52:50 AM Feds will be only faction, and only PvP will take place on possible holo adventures. Captains will direct the others as well as plot navigation and perform maneuvers themselves. There will be admirals, but there supposed to be extremely hard to get to. Also, ranks will progress seperately than levels, but I'm not sure what that'l mean as i'm not sure what types of abilkities are gained with levels. The game takes place mainly in the beta quadrant, which includes both romulan and klingon territories, but for the most prominent enemy they will be introducing a new race-forgot what they're called. Also, Daron said there might be possible dynamic sections of the game universe, where events will actually have a long term effect on the area and its inhabitants, not most places though.
Ewm, I'm not sure SFC or STA stand for. Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: ewm90 on April 20, 2007, 01:59:42 AM Starfleet command, and star trek armada

Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: Jan on April 21, 2007, 10:07:11 AM STO is made by a hole difrent groop of manufachers than STL it will be nuthink like lecrap On the other hand... all others so called "StarTrek manufacturers" (e.g. Mad Doc) wasn't able to make it right. So I think we have nothing to loose and I just want to point out that you should give them a chance. We will see backwards and on that one I'm yet optimistic. Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: Admiral Adama on April 21, 2007, 09:26:31 PM it takes a delicate balnce between neing way to complicated and arcade like

It seems like they have to have one, but I haven't heard anything on it... Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: Admiral Adama on April 28, 2007, 08:46:55 PM one of my friends at school told me you are confined to certain areas. but he may have been talking about a different game
Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: RedShirt on April 28, 2007, 10:25:03 PM Wouldn't surprise me. Not as much as there being a WoW player at Reagan...
Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: The Old Man on April 29, 2007, 05:48:26 PM Has anyone of you tried EVE online? There's a free trial available but I haven't checked it out by now. But judging by the trailers it seems to be amazing!
As there's something like EVE out there for a longer time one could really expect STO to become a high-quality online game - with free trial - presuming that the developers want to create something which will be price-winning and not only money-making. Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: Admiral Adama on April 29, 2007, 06:28:31 PM Regan? lol
churchill is better! :P Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: RedShirt on April 29, 2007, 07:14:30 PM Either you hate your school, or you go to Churchill.
Meh. O'Connor is still better than either. Even if it's full of jerks. Title: Re: Star Trek Online Post by: Admiral Adama on April 30, 2007, 01:41:19 AM the latter
