Title: I Had I Hope, But Then I Had None
Post by: Intimid8er on September 16, 2006, 12:32:03 AM
There are those of you who have played C&C: Generals. Of you people SHOULD be the ones that know of Halogen: Real-Time Strategy Evolved. This is a halo mod for generals and has been hihgly anticipated for a few years. They finally got an e-mail from Bungie (the developers behind Halo) stating that they were infringing on copyrighted material. I was sooooo looking forward to this but now all I have is FO.

Actually C&C Generals is a great game with a great engine im very sad that the mod has been cancelled it really sucks seeing as its a game that is a hell of alot better than A2 :(

but FO is great so you can still play that

not odd, gay. Since halowars is an x360 exclusive, and this was a mod for a PC game. two completely different marktes. Also, If this dosent even come out for the PC when Live anywhere launches, im gonna snap.

It will.

Halo is only an Xbox Game!

Yes, until they released it on PC.

They don't understand how poorly a 360 RTS will do, therefore they will have no choice but to port it over to us.

Halo Wars will most likely follow the trend set by games such as Dawn of War, but more so into the modern sense of Games such as Age of Empires 3, Company of Heroes and Empire at war.

This is the modern RTS, smaller armies of very well modelled and physics affected units, versus massed, massed groups of simple graphical units (Starcraft, A2, ect).

This, in my oppinion is the future of all RTS.

well Supreme commander has ******* ridiculous ammounts of soldiers and great graphics so its not always small ;)

I was thinking a simmilar thing of the game not performing well as a console game. Leading to a PC port. But as it stands I belive it is an x360 exclusive. Or wont be out in time to matter *COUGH HALO2 COUGH*

Look at Fleetops, in most cases you never have more than 20-30 ships ;) unless you really need that many :P but 30 ships on average, mabye more depending on the intesity of the game. I know some MP games get insane.

they will most likely eventually releaase it to P.C. because 1. Halo 1 and now 2 are coming out for P.C.  and they HOPEFULLY keep with tradition and release it for computer 2.  RTS are best made for computers because of the controls 3. they will probably want to bring in some more money...like all companys!

when the heck do u only have 20-30 ships play Mp with us ;)

I'm upset because Starcraft and AOE2 are probably the 2 best rts games ever made.

AOE3 kicks AOE2's ***. SWGB kicks Aoe2'S ***. But starcraft is still a pretty good RTS.

Yes. The graphics are silly but still dark and awesome.

Anyways, I like RTS stuff where you command a whole crapload of troops in High-D uber graphics with physics!

Needless to say, I'm glad I've got 60-70 more years for them to actually make something like that...

AOE = age of empires
SWGB = star wars galactic battlegrounds

Starcraft is amazing.
AOE 2 was great, but it didn't break much new ground.
Ground Control 2 was good, but underappreciated.
AOE 3 / DoW set the new graphics standards, they're pretty good.
Company of Heroes is amazing. (Best gameplay I have seen in a while).
Star Wars Galatic Battlegrounds was amazing, but only for it's amazing trigger system.

the AOE2 engine was used for SWGB.  And already by then, it was getting way too old to base a RTS game on.

I have gone through and played AOE1 and 2 numerous of times, and right now it's been sitting on my shelf.  It just is not my type of RTS.

Starcraft = good RTS.
Armada/A2 (w/ FO) = great RTS.

And DoW was much better as a board game with pewter soldiers than it was at being a PC RTS game.  The RTS version of it really sucked imo.

Starcraft is IMO the best RTS of all time because it did nothing wrong.

Balance?
Perfect.

Gameplay?
Addicting.

Story?
Exciting.

Races?
Amazing.

Graphics?
Timeless.

Modding?
Easy.

Suppot?
Beautiful.

Community?
Dedicated.

All in all, Starcraft has to be the best RTS ever.

You've got to be kidding? Starcraft was a.) a noob rts b.) way to darn fast for the defensive player c.) a rip completly from Warhammer, and I mean all the way down d.) limited and predictable

balance was ok, but starcraft is definatly showing its age these days.

No sorry i cant agree with that

Starcraft will always hold a special place to me because of how good it was

THe balance was perfect no race was better than the other

it wasnt a noob rts as it was pretty damn amazing when it was released

it wasnt too fast for a defensive player as i could defend just fine on Mp

and it wasnt a complete rip of warhammer there were alot of things from aliens actually

really? the tyranids and the zerg are essintially the same race, and the protos and eldar share some similarities, and the space marines and space marines... welll you see where that is going. :P

as for the gameplay I had dial up when I had Star Craft so multiplayer was not acceptable.

Never played AOE, but I love SWGB.  Empire at War was good at first, but doesn't seem to have the lasting value.  I like the old RTS style more.

As for Starcraft, I never got into it.  I just didn't like something about it, but I did love Warcraft.  I still play it, I paid $2 and got the battlenet edition from EB :).  Starcraft did have an interesting Mobile Suit Gundam mod, but the mod was never really finished enough to be good, it was a little too flawed.  The guys failed to recode some race-specific stuff that really messed up the playability.

As for having 20-30 ships at once: Do you only play SP?  No offense intended, but that sounds WAAAY too little.  I remember a 4v4 I did online one day, each person had well over 100 advanced ships, until our enemy warped in and shut off our weapons and self destructed and used superweapons out of the wazoo, and all that caused me to CTD...but anwyway, I usually have 5-6 fully used battlegroups minimum.  I like to thrash everyone in one sweep whenever possible, rather than an occasional 3 man assault.

i know what u mean abou the similarities between WH and Sc but

Starcraft was probs teh best game around RTs wise for years there was nothing that could even come close to it

and girhen yeah heck i remember how many carrier groups i used to have it used to be absolutely ridiculous :P
