consider yourself welcomed B)
anyway plz, plz, plz read this thread (http://forum.fleetops.net/index.php?showtopic=375) before posting a problem (i know your not the only 1 guilty of not enough info).
so plz provide a DXdiag.txt and a couple of further questions,
a) is your armada 2 CD in the drive (while installing)?
B ) are you trying to install FO into a fresh folder or one already occupied by a stock (or other modded) A2 install?

aarrrghh  :omg:  dude did you copy/paste that?
when you run dxdiag, click "save all information", then save it somewhere probably the desktop. then upload the .txt file here (it'll come up as a link). i can make heads or tails of this 'cos it has " &nsbp;" all over the place (dont ask what thats all about  )
also your answer to question 2: dont understand your answer. this should be installed into a fresh clean folder, usually created by the installer itself. DO NOT try to install into an existing A2 directory.

you could've just uploaded it here. anyway here it is to save time.

EDIT: everything seems to be in order from what i can see. althougth that "sound tab2" not being signed, you may want to address this. (a windows update may well take care of that). maybe Doca can find a solution, cos im stumped

Ok thanks.

no i meant thats what i wanted you to do (upload it here) its quicker to access, plus you dont get a crapload of advertising pop-ups, trying access it.
P.S i already put it up for ya, so others can see if they can help.

EDIT: i know its a long shot but anyway: i've noticed that there is a device connected "WebCamDV Audio" is this an actual web cam or something else (this has the driver name that aint properly signed). if it is a webcam, try disconnecting it or make sure it is completely off (disconnected is better), then try the install again right from the top.

make sure there is no folder called "Star Trek Armada II Fleet Operations" in you activision folder, make sure to put the A2 CD in the drive when setup asks (shouldn't make a difference but you never know)
and also try to make sure any anti-virus software is turned off BEFORE starting the install wizard(dont worry there is no virus in this).

nope, i just asked because someone else reported the same problem using alcohol 120%.

anyway, someone had the same issue, so i will now just quote him and hope that this will help you, as i cannot reproduce the problem here.

Another very very very strange problem:
(Hope you don't mind me posting it here.)

I wanted to start the MapEditor and that here appeared on my screen:
A warning that MapEdit.exe is the trojan horse "TR/Dldr.Zlob.VV.2".
I use Avira AntiVir since.. dunno the century and I never had a similar problem until five minutes ago. So what? Or simply: How could this happen?

Title: A Problem
Post by: Scarface on July 01, 2006, 10:48:50 PM
Yes I had the same ******* trojan horse in the MapEdit.exe  :( .

You no i dont no if this is it but when i went to go into map editer after i installed the new patch it didnt work and so i decided to re-install fleetops and then this happens and i to have a trojan horse thing do you think that could be way it is not installing?

you know just because your Anti-virus software says something is a virus doesn't neccessarily mean it is one (not saying thats the case with this but you never know).
which mirrors did you people use?
im not getting any virus warnings in mine. i use AVG free edition anti virus s/w.

Ok i figured out that if you go into SafeMod you can install it and note that the decompresien will take a while and it may seem like it is doing nothing so i suggest turning up the priority to high not realtime.

if you dont no how to do that you hit control alt delete right click on fleetops install and say go to processor and then right click on that and click high and say yes to the box that pops up.

after a little investigation about zlob i found out that the virus is not a virus but malware that has quite similar characteristics as the map editor though the map editor doesn't extract malware file to your system but armada maps ;)
v3 final will feature a new map manager anyway, so no worries about the current one. it hasn't changed much since beta 2 and i am sure someone else would have screamed yet if he had a trojan whatever due to fleet operations on his system.

about safe mode. it could be actually your virus scanner blocking copying of the files as it is trying to read them simultaneously. most setups recommend (also those from microsoft, symantec etc etc) to disable you virus scanner temporary during install to avoid problems. that may be actually the case here though i never experienced such problems myself. i use nod32 btw and never detected any virus in fleet operations ;) also, the executables like the map manager or loader have crc checks. as soon as a trojan attaches to one of the files you would get a message saying that the crc checksum is invalid. as that is not the case i am sure that's just a mistake by your anti virus program.

I use alcohol 120% for mine, ther's no way im putting my cd in to my drives it's practacly impossible to find a copy, alway it all works fine for me, and i have other images of disks load in at the same time, plus 3 physical cd/dvd drives everything works smoothly for me? just incase people were worried as they had 120%

yes, i think that problem was related to his anti-virus not by alcohol 120%... i will recommend the next one with this issue to disable his av temporary to install it and see if it works

A new map editor?  Yay!  For some reason, I cant get the F# keys to preform the designated functions in the editor, so could the new one either a. use different keys or b. use a different system altogather?

Title: A Problem
Post by: DOCa Cola on July 02, 2006, 09:28:53 PM
no, a new map manager, sorry. took the wrong word...

Post by: RedShirt on July 02, 2006, 10:05:41 PM
Well, could we have a reworked interface for the editor, too?  Y'know, substituting F1, F2, F3, etc. with just 1, 2, 3, etc.?

Title: A Problem
Post by: DOCa Cola on July 02, 2006, 11:04:11 PM
i think there is no need to change the hotkeys. they would possibly interfere with the existing keys

Post by: RedShirt on July 03, 2006, 12:00:59 AM
Would it hurt that much?  Because of those stupid keys I can't use the editor.  -_-

are you using a logitech keyboard with a F-key, to change the behaviour of the function keys or something? ;)

To bring up something completely different  B) :

I've got a problem concerning the sound effects of FO.
If I decide to disassemble a starship and the process starts I can hear the appropriate sound. But after the decomission is complete it doesn't stop and cheers me up till the end of the game.

Does this sound (  Sry.... ) familiar to anyone of you?

mmmm... go here (http://tkhasi.betterbox.net/), play around and then after a half our go back on armada and the construction yard sound just doesnt seem so bad anymore does it? :o!

Title: A Problem
Post by: Smoerebroed on August 02, 2006, 10:33:05 AM
workaround: send a ship to that yard for repairs (even if there is no need for repairs) ->the sound will stop then; hehe and what's the fuzz with that **** tkhasi link crap stuff? hä?
