Star Trek Armada II: Fleet Operations

Since I have spent many an hour playing the new version I would like take this opportunity to, express my gratitude to the Fleet ops team for all the effort they have put into its construction and, ask the above question: which is your favourite avatar?  

In my opinion General Mijural is better option as personally I am quite a defensive player and her bonuses concur with my tactics admirably. :cloak:  :tank:   :cloak:    

Dominion puretech, just love that sensor station ;)

Admiral Mayson for me :) I love the small Federation ships and he aids me in that sector. I'm also a big fan of special ships like support ships so the Norway goes just my way :)

“Dominion pure tech, just love that sensor station”. Hummmm  :hmmm:  I quite like the  Alliance: Breen avatar myself, as I prefer to use cloaked ships like the Breen cruiser to gather intelligence and the Breen movement upgrades come in handy, since there is no warp.  :)


 

mijural. i love the power of four tavaras :)

^^^^^^^And the strike class ships are an excellent vesicle to use at the beginning of the game, when resources are limited. :)  

Breen ships are cool yes, but in multiplayer intelligence is more important IMO and you wont build many of those battleships anyway ^^

Risner is my Favorit, some Attack Power for the Federation  :D  

Alliance: Breen. I say that because I am a fan of a well ballanced fleet and that is what the Breen ships bring to my fleets. I do agree with Black Baron about the puretech in multiplayer though.

So far I'm gonna have to go with Optec on this one and say Mayson. The defensive style he implies is much more to my liking than a heavy attack style. I have not as yet sampled any Klingon/Romulan avatars. The Dominion: Pure Tech avatar was fine, but the material based tactics of the dominion (and, to a lesser extent, the Klingons) is completely counter to my prefered style of fighting. Then again, I've not hit my stride yet...been a few years since I've really played (Not since Beta 1 actually) so I'm out of practice. I'll play for a while longer and see if that changes.

I agree about what you say about the importance of intelligence, its just that I am a romulan player a hart, so I have a affinity for fast medium strength cloaked ships and since I have yet to play against a living opponent I chose the Breen purely because I found them to be a fun adition to the dominion. :)

Martok and the Dominions are ok...

I had a look around and I didn't really find female admirals of the time FO takes place.
But I agree with Jarod: Jadzia looks a bit strange as an avatar. (Though I like her...  :rolleyes:) And with the FO-Team being so incredible good, I'm sure, that there will be a solution!  B)

The other Avatars are fine as they are.  :)

Following Jarod, I'd suggest, if one would decide against pics of avatars, icons of factions or organizations instead of photographs. So instead of Jadzia - regarding Risner's ties to Section 31 - I could imagine a Section 31 insignia and for Mayson the symbol of the UFP.

lol..yeah! I voted for Risner, too. Fast tech is my favourite playing style. Tech on Avalon which are extremly powerfull vs. all kind of stations with their long ranged fighters ...as TheSeer mentioned: ****..it's good to be in the federation... this is absolutley cool.

Generally, all Avatars are very interesting and one of the best features FleetOps has to offer. My sec. fav is Mr. Romulan ( sry..forgot the name :S )...I love Griffin Class!
Looking forward to hear great and fitting music for the Dominion and the Borg with new textures and gameplay. 4 races is a bit boring after a while, even if one race is nearly 2 cos of the Avatars. Also can't wait for better special weapons effects. Now they look quite odd. Should be stronger with ship size aswell.

 

More Avatars for each race are planed for further versions, by the way.

Further versions are NOT the v3 release :P

i prefer mayson because of the construction bonuses of cost and time

and the torpedo turrets are great  :D  

Well I dont really build turrets anymore. They've just become a waste of resources IMO since their firepower is a joke and its much better to build like 2 ships for that cost which could rip the turret to shreds and are actually mobile lol

Shrike is a monster ship with one of the most important specials in Mp

Turrets with torps are great vs the AI

Warbirds an tavaras become better ships

Torp turret on the other hand DOES suck :P

i don't use either, and avalons nor turrets are that big a difference makers.

I use Mijural mostly. You get a Shrike, which kills destroyers all over early game and then you get some nice bonuses to capital ships that let you eat everything when yo can afford to get 5 or 6 of them. Backed up with destroyers to take fire and do their destroying thing, it's a pretty nice takedown. The only problem is defending yourself when your opponent is getting stuff like Bombers and cruisers and raiding your base. You need quite a few shrikes and Leahvals to get an adequate defense force without spending undue cash (which you're saving to get some Norexans out and about. It's like a giant, heavily shielded Shrike. What more do you need?)

So, yeah, the Tech when I'm dominion, and Mayson when I'm the Feds. Haven't gone Klinon-ing yet, mostly been Romulans under Mijural.

yeeah, shrieks under mijural are formidable, but norexians are more affective againt smaller ships, so if you'r opponent builds destroyers and ctuisers it's all fun and games, but if he builds battleships, that's a whole other story

you know looking at the poll results im guessing alot of people dont play this on MP cause mayson is horrible for Mplay unless your someone like Cube with barron on his side ;)

and no fav for Duras thats weird i only picked Mirjual cause of the warbird boost too but duras is my second hmm this is weird

i guess in a destroyer heavy match, mayson is marginally better (+1 defence to all antares ships, except akiras, +2)

but the +3 offence u get from risner for the akira... i just cant see how you can beat that.

Generally I think Optec is too reservedly with changes caused by Avatars. You don't really feel that there has changed strength of ships or an decreased cost of research. The only thing that feels changed is the fact of new ships or stations.
However, I do not reproach Optec anything because it's very hard to stay balanced. But I think an increase of any weapons power by 5 % is too less. Why not say an avatar doubles damage of some ship classes? I just want to feel a significant change by choosing an avatar. Same with special weapons. In my eyes they are 1. Too weak 2. Not really looking special. I mean...look at Rhienn torpedo refit. There the jumping torpedo is so insignificant.  

i think some people have difficulty putting "5% this and 10% that" into perspective...

IF it said something like "with risner one akira can destroy 4 bugs instead of 3" then i think people would warm to it more ;)

Well the Breen increases the rate of fire for all tetrion torps by 5%, now if that would be 50% it would be Really unbalanced haha.
Thought I know what u mean, but its the little things that make a difference in a MP game ;)

but barron what annoys me is that you can tell people dont play MP here on these results 35% love mayson like no offence but feds are **** on MP and you aint gonna win with them ;)

Well depends, Feds are fine at later stages, u just have to get to them :D And with that new special rule theres no problem with feds imo.

well Mayson is good because of the Norway and the buildings build time reduced, IMO its better of the 2 Fed avatars. :)

U mass bops and feds will mass defiants, lets see who win :D :P

Are you just trying to be stupid or missing the point when the hell would you get defiants quick enough to fight bops teh whole reason i made teh rule was it got boring when i would always have 10 + fleets of bops / shrikes and rape pretty much anything with it cause you cant get teh heavy stuff out quick enough

Im telling you as it stands now there is no point playing feds unless teh 1 destroyer group rule is in use

Not every race is suited for every playstile. always keep that in mind. if you came to a point where you have to say "this and that suxs" its just not the right thing for you  ^_^

and you'r right, not every race is suited for every playstile, but if massing small ship is everyone's playstyle, that you find yourself in quite a pickle, now don't you ^_^  But i don't care really, with our new rules of building only 16 destroyers except for dominion who can build 32, it's becomming more fun and better for everyone.

well - so to speak - the experience pool of a hand full of people is quite limited :D the chance is not that bad that none of you is the "federation type" :)

We are still always happy for suggestions exspecially about balancing. but please respect the opinion of others, too  ^_^

Its funny how no one voted for Duras and Helev. When Im Klingon or Rom I always play as those 2 :S

Personally I'm fond of Alliance: Breen. That Breen battleship seems to fare better in the long run than most other capital ships. Tough little mother that ship. I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe it's just fits the way I play.

I gotta say, I really love those tavaras with their special transport abilities (the more the merrier). Also I love just making a fleet of the phasing ships (I forgot the name now of the refit) and sending them through the asteroids to harass my enemies.

Breen ships in general are tough and powerful. They did, afterall, attack the Earth in a hit and run.

The Breen, I must say, are my favorite. I hope to see a seperate, pure race soon. Those are some tough, helmeted mother- shut yo' mouth.

They probably won't be appearing as their own race anytime soon; the Iconians and the Ciaden are scheduled for the next two, followed by a redone Noxter race.

Meh, I didn't like the Noxter. Bio-organic ships in space aren't logical... though most of Star Trek isn't. xD I dislikes Species 5n892n or whatever they were called, and I dislike the Noxter that much more.

Mijural. Tavaras are nice. Plus the turrets with torps.

Voted for Helev though. He was feeling neglected   :lol:

ADM. Risner for me. one word: Carriers

Martoks gotta be one of mine for one simple reason; Lup'sets! Their phasers and torpedoes are equally effective against everything, and add to that all his focus on the bigger ships (i'm what people might call a "Capital Phalanx Fan") and your onto a potential winner.

However, do expect that to be instantly replaced with one of the Borg avatats in 3.0. :lol:
