Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Jan on June 06, 2006, 04:29:03 PM What do you think what team will be the champion this time?
I hope germany :P They worked hard and I trust Klinsmann. Are you going to visit germany? Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on June 06, 2006, 06:00:18 PM My teams for winning are: Spain, Brazil, France.
If these 3 dont win, then I dont care who does :D Sorry to say though, I think Germany dont have a chance in **** of winning, though they are Germany and they are the home team which always gets far in world cups :) About visiting Germany, I might get some tickets to see some Ghana games but I dont know if they are really worth going to Germany :D But u never know... Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: XSB on June 06, 2006, 11:49:57 PM The Netherlands. :)
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Frodo on June 07, 2006, 12:53:18 AM soccer?! its football world cup lol i'm rooting for england but i'm thinking brazil and france/england maybe in the finals
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Stryfe on June 08, 2006, 08:05:57 AM Bah, Sweden all the way!! Though we have as much chance as a Snowball in ****.
And a guy from work is over in Germany right now =P He's a big soccer freak. Me, I don't watch it. I never really got the point of Soccer. As I said when I was five years old. (Why don't they just give everyone their own ball?) Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Jan on June 08, 2006, 03:27:22 PM Erm..I though most ppl do understand soccer in a better way than "football"..but ok..I prefer football, too. ;)
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Cpt Ryan on June 08, 2006, 04:23:19 PM praying England, but thinking Brazil

Though u do have a good squad this year and you could go far, u still arent favorites, not even close :P Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Acidpunk on June 08, 2006, 09:01:36 PM No offense but england are gonna win it this year there is no comparison
All the other teams are good i wont lie but England have - Ferdinand Beckham Lampard Gerrard Rooney as great on form players not to mention Terry - Cole - J.Cole Brazil are good but they rely too much on one man Ronaldiniho and Germany im sorry to say have been dissapointing the only other team i can see winning it are Netherlands they have a really strong team and have been playing well COME ON ENGLAND Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: chancedoggydog on June 08, 2006, 09:23:49 PM COME ON ENGLAND
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on June 09, 2006, 12:40:51 AM Quote Brazil are good but they rely too much on one man Ronaldiniho and Germany im sorry to say have been dissapointing Yeah not to mention: Adriano, Kaka, Ronaldo, Robinho, Juninho, R. Carlos ;) Sure thats a 1 man team all right ;) England team is a good one indeed, BUT they have a crappy coach and seem to have a problem at big tournaments :S I simply dont see them as favorites to win the world cup. And Im saying that as a non-biased guy as my country isnt even in the world cup :hmmm: Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Acidpunk on June 09, 2006, 05:54:02 PM i just dont see brazil winning as south american teams dont win in europe
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Frodo on June 09, 2006, 07:48:51 PM germany's 1st match started with a spectacular goal and ended with a powerful shot from some german well outside the box, a great match in all it was 4-2 but in my opinion the host's played pretty ****, they were slow on the ball at times, they'll make the knockout stage but jsut how far they will go?
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on June 09, 2006, 09:13:52 PM Germany wont go far, sure they won against Costa Rica but they are MUCH too volurnable at the back. One could say that so are Brazil but Brazil's attack is just WOW :D
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Eufnoc on June 09, 2006, 11:01:31 PM we will see young solvenian
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Rhaz on June 09, 2006, 11:04:46 PM The Deutsch are pretty fair.
My money is definatly on Brazil, there's simply no contest. Yeah, Germany is alright...they won today, I skipped class and was watching up until half time. Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Jan on June 10, 2006, 09:11:56 AM WOHOOO!!! 4:2
This was a good match. Commentators after the game said that this wasn't all germany can offer. They played on low-skilled... vs lowbies :P If this is right they could do what noone expected... The two goals from Costa Rica were just because defence counted on "Abseits" (<<--- I dunno the english word) and handled too slow. Both times the same mistake. they will analyse it and work it out well next times. Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: XSB on June 10, 2006, 09:52:47 AM Quote WOHOOO!!! 4:2 Abseit = off side I think. My German is, well, non-existant :D This was a good match. Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on June 10, 2006, 12:03:17 PM They did score incredible goals though, Frings and Lahm :o
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Cpt Ryan on June 10, 2006, 02:46:44 PM thats because of the balls, every world cup they make the balls lighter & lighter and you get 2/3 of the teams and players (particully keepers) complain about it.
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on June 10, 2006, 03:17:09 PM I know, they do that so there will be more goals and make the game more entertaining. BUT u have to admit those were great shots regardless of the ball ;)
The England team really disappointed me today, they didnt create much at all and their only goal was very lucky indeed  They do have a great defence though and maybe attack will improve when Rooney returns. I think Crouch is crap and if he will continue playing in attack, you will again go home empty-handed ;) Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Eufnoc on June 11, 2006, 07:18:52 AM crouch is crap? out of the last 3 england games he has scored 44% of the goals?
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on June 11, 2006, 12:34:11 PM Quote crouch is crap? out of the last 3 england games he has scored 44% of the goals? That doesnt mean anything really, out of the last 2 Slovenia games Novakovic has scored 100% of our goals. Now tell me, does that mean that he is THAT good? ;) I remember at the beginning of the season when Liverpool signed him, he was their 1st choice striker and yet got his first official goal after 4 months playing :S And even after that goal, he didnt bag them every game. Is that really a good choice striker in your opinion? Tell me something else, how many quality crosses has Beckham put into opposition box in the Paraguay game? I think we can both agree that a lot :D And how many did he converted into goal? Yep thats right, none. I mean the guy is almost 2m tall, if he can score with his head what can he do then? Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Acidpunk on June 11, 2006, 07:42:45 PM TO be honest england cant play in heat and it showed yesterday proof of this is that they consumed 70L of water during the match compared to a usual 20 so it does say alot
However all the other england games are now 17-00 and 20-00 kickoffs so they wont really have too much of a problem ENgland will sort them selves out soon as rooney returns and they get used to playing with eachother and the defence is great with crouch to be honest hes an O k striker but i dont like him i would much rather have had someone like Andrew Johnson or Jemaine Defoe in his place too bad really AS for OWen when he gets to the QUater finals thats where he will shine hes still no 100 % match fit and it showed so we just gotta wait and hope As for the rest i was only really dissapointed with 2 players A . COle and F . Lampard Lampard was just not influencial in the game and he didnt really shoot untill late in the game so i was quite dissapointed with him however i did really like Joe cole and David Beckham they both had great games COme On England Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on June 11, 2006, 09:26:11 PM Well as I said b4, England does have a very strong squad. Their only weakness is their attack. But as u said, when Rooney returns they should manage themselves quite ok, but the question is if rooney is going to stay healthy and if he is going to find his form right away. I think Eriksson made a mistake by not bringing more experianced strikers to the world cup ^_^
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Eufnoc on June 11, 2006, 11:19:42 PM apparently rooney will play in the last 20 min of the next match.
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Acidpunk on June 12, 2006, 12:31:53 AM if he does i will smack erikson in the face im sorry rooney should not play till the sweeden match just to get him warmed up
they dont even need to win against trinidad to be honest ofcourse it would be nice but its not worth the risk if they wanna beat the next match Just start with Owen up front and COle supporting or gerrard either way leave rooney till we really need him Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on June 12, 2006, 02:35:16 PM Aye if Rooney get injured again, you guys are pretty much ****** ^_^
Plus Trinidad & Tobago are a weak, weak team, you should have no problems with them (Slovenia beat them 3:1 for christ sake :P ) Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Cpt Ryan on June 12, 2006, 03:51:08 PM means nothing, sweden could do no better than 0-0. sweden have beaten & drawn with England previously.
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on June 12, 2006, 05:37:24 PM Didnt they play 1:1 with Sweden? :S I heared somewhere that T&T have scored in the dying minutes of the match ^_^
Still, surely u can beat Trinidad lol Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Acidpunk on June 12, 2006, 06:58:38 PM trinidad have some good players dont count them out for no reason its the same with ghana i can see them beating italy tonight
as for england rest rooney and we will beat them with owen Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Frodo on June 12, 2006, 11:10:19 PM i reckon owen wasn't attacking too much in the paraguay match as not to risk himself to injury or something like that, crouch is good enough to play attack but he shines when he's partnering someone else, the match was played like a 4-4-1-1 with crouch up front, england mite have got more goals if owen was in front of that lanky robot!! i agree with 4 of 11 about rooney, no need to rush him out to play trinidad, the swedes are decent enough so i hope ericsson saves rooney for that match if he's needed
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Cpt Ryan on June 14, 2006, 12:17:48 AM it was more like 4-5-1 :hmmm: when england were in posession he often wandered all the way back to the half-way line instead of actually being up front like he was supposed to as the lone striker on the pitch -_-
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Jan on June 14, 2006, 12:02:59 PM Can anyone tell me what happened to Brazil? Ronaldo was more an elephant than one of the worlds best players... 0o
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on June 14, 2006, 12:56:26 PM Ronaldo thrives on couter-attacks, he is not so good in a game like yesterday when Brazil constantly pressurize the opponents. Thats why he is not so good at Real, their style of play does not suit him either. That is also the reason he was so good at Inter ;)
BTW: The team I am supporting this tournament, Spain, just gave Ukraine a lesson in football. IMO they were the most convincing team in the tournament thus far ^_^ Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Cpt Ryan on June 14, 2006, 04:11:42 PM aahhh so that must be why he is on the verge of breaking the 14 goal world cup record (he has 12) :P
damit missed the spain game, and the brazil game :o stupid job :hmmm: Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on June 14, 2006, 05:44:09 PM I didnt say he is a bad player lol, just that he is at best in counter attacks :P
Of course he can pull goals out of nothing ^_^ Thats the reason hes been best player of the world 3 times now :P Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Jan on June 15, 2006, 12:47:23 PM WOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! I hardly breathed the last 10 minutes. :D Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Frodo on June 15, 2006, 02:27:51 PM agreed it was a great match! as i'm a bit deaf i sometimes have subtitles/captions when watching tv and so i had em on to get what the presenters were talking about before kick off and i couldn't help but chuckle when the following words popped up on the subtitles - "..there is an invasion of poland fans in germany tonight.." trust the BBC to do something like that lol

Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Phritz on June 28, 2006, 12:51:06 PM Deutschland uber Alles! england wont get very far, theyre playing so badly (mainly cuz of svens setup), and i can only recall one worldcup win for england. The german team is really motivated to win, I cant wait untill saturday. I also recall that that 5:1 result was BEFORE the 2002 world cup. Despite the critics(they say that this german team is the worst ever, lmao they said that last world cup) they are playing really well
and BTW ITS FOOTBALL WORLD CUP NOT SOCCER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!!!! Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Jan on June 28, 2006, 03:39:34 PM I know ..I just wanted it to be understood my some strange people from over the atlantic... ^_^

That WAS a straight red, he kicked Caravalho in the balls on purpose. Its clearly visible from the replays, plus the ref was like 2m away and he saw it. It was a good call. The ref did a VERY good job, considering what have the other referees done. He was not biased towards anyone and he was dominant the entire match, good job  3. He did that cause supposably Carragher is a good penalty taker and he WAS playing on 0:0 the entire match. The ******. Its funny his penalty was saved tho :P 4. Good job Portugal ;) Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Cpt Ryan on July 01, 2006, 07:53:15 PM what ******* game were you watching? :x how in any sober state of mind can you say that Rooney intentionally stamped on the geezer? it wasn't even a stamp, he just stepped backwards, after being hauled down and sandwiched between 2 players. the Ref then only blew for a freekick, that was it. then Ronaldo being the great sport that he is proceeded to coax the ref into handing out a card (which is in itself a yellow card).
yeah a real great job ref, first half: how many "fouls" that hargreaves actually committed were actually fouls: about 1 or 2 at most. this is a contact sport. carragher is not a good spot kick taker, plus Sven had both Downing and CARRICK (who actually used to take West Hams penalties) to choose from before bringing on Carragher for a player he actually used as a sub. ALSO just to add to this... Isn't stuttering while taking a penalty kick, frowned on, and considered bad sportsmanship. (ref is supposed to order a retake) several of the portugal players did this, dam Ronaldo even done it twice in a single run-up. Quote It was intentional, he is known for this kind of **** a reputation is not supposed to influence ANY judgement on the pitch, more great refereeing. Otherwise WHY was an ARGENTINIAN ref allowed to take charge of the match(theres rough history there between England & them).well baron if you thought that was deliberate let me just say im glad your not one of the refs out there  :P most of the free kicks were conceded by Hargreaves who actually plays his football in Germany  (i actually thought he gave a good acount of himself today) Quote It is a contact sport not judging by the refereeing in this tournament. the refs have been very.... inconsistant.and yes he was turning away, thats WHY ronaldo started waving the imaginary card (which he, himself should still be booked for regardless). and if you look closely he DID stop while taking the penalty (during the second, more prominant stutter) oh yeah@scarface its cool no need to apologise ;) woot now i know the German for World Cup B) Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on July 02, 2006, 02:18:48 AM Rooney kick (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQxDXlhUl7Q&search=rooney%20red%20card) <-----If this is not deliberate to you I dont know what is. That IS a red card. Please man dont be sore loosers and blame a ref for your loss, when actually he was one of the best refs Ive seen in this World cup.
Oh and BTW I just read an interview with Eriksson and he said Rooneys red card was just so STFU :P I do agree with you on the refs of this tourney, they were pretty bad(not this one tho ;)) Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: RedShirt on July 02, 2006, 02:40:10 AM I take it Portugul won?
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Cpt Ryan on July 02, 2006, 03:19:02 AM definately not. look at his boot, it doesn't even change direction at all, if it were on purpose then it would have done, cos otherwise he would have trod on the pitch instead :P Plus the ref (considering how highly you rate him) should already have blown for an England Free-kick.
Quote Oh and BTW I just read an interview with Eriksson and he said Rooneys red card was just so STFU :P er.... no STFU & read what you just wrote. SVEN said it so it means nothing. That was his last match in charge he is no longer the England Coach from the moment portugals 5th penalty was taken. you really think he gives a flying **** what happens now, or then? Quote Please man dont be sore loosers and blame a ref for your loss im not a sore loser, i already knew England weren't gonna win it, before the tourny started (somewhere in a previous post). And yeah i know it wasn't JUST the ref, thats what im saying, Sven doesn't care, since he picked up his pay-check before the tourny started. i mean how else can you explain his decisions/ tactics. i mean he was the highest earning manager in the tourney (probs the world), WHY???can someone answer me that. Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on July 02, 2006, 04:02:29 AM Well u brought Sven on yourselves ;) So I cant really anwser you that, he is a teribble manager TBH :D
I guess we will never agree on Rooney, I still think its deliberate he just hit him "too" perfectly. Tho u are right, he should have given the free-kick to england b4 that, but even if he did and Rooney did the same thing, it would still be a red regardless ;) Now about Brazil- France game. All I can say is all hail the King Zinedine Zidane and his old guard Makelele, Viera, Thuram, Sagnol and Barthez :pimp: :pimp: :pimp:  And of course the Prince Thierry Henry! Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: hypercube on July 02, 2006, 01:36:02 PM well i think it WAS an accident afterall, since he never took his eyes off the ball and you can clearly see when he steps on his "private parts" he's actually going for the ball(the football ball that is)
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on July 02, 2006, 01:49:14 PM One can surely feel that his foot is between someones legs, it doesnt take a scientist to figure out what happens if you push then ;)
Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Cpt Ryan on July 02, 2006, 05:56:09 PM Quote One can surely feel that his foot is between someones legs, it doesnt take a scientist to figure out what happens if you push then ;) not really, you can feel it if you step on someone's leg, because well thats someones leg  but even something as hard as someones hand is gonna be hard to notice, plus i really dont think he was concentrating on where the other player was (as hyper said he never took his eyes off the ball). As for France, well done i suppose. Guess they must be Brazil's deemon team (unlucky to play against). But im still backing Germany to pull of an :shifty: upset :shifty: Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: RedShirt on July 02, 2006, 06:58:12 PM Us guys in good 'ol America are having a great time sitting back and laughing about how you guys are getting so worked up about a soccer (and yes, I called it SOCCER) tournament. :P

(and South America, and Africa and Asia... hm, "everyone else" seems fitting :D) are still wondering what's so interesting about Baseball... ;) Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Phritz on July 02, 2006, 08:14:55 PM LoL, if you want me to come back on that comment and start flaming america fine, you guys can't care anymore because despite having an ok team, you can't make it out of the group stage (campare it to the NBA, first theres a league, and then theres the "playoffs, where you win to go through if you lose, your out, unless you lose the semi finals you play in the match for 3rd place))
ad for all those people agruing bout rooney and ronaldo, its all because of Sven, his 4-1-4-1 system is totally not englands style england is a 4-4-2 team AND GERMANY IS GOING OT WIN, and i have to laugh so much that france beat brazil, lol in my eyes i'm half satisfyed, only a european team can win now, although ill be very unhappy if france win. And btw unlike the "superbowl" this tournament is held once every four years, 1.6 billion people are watching it LIVE(theres 6.5 billion people in the world, calculate how many of these people actually have a TV and you get pretty much any , i wonder how many others are watching it on replays because of time difference, anyhoes, all the amaericans care about is being scared, if you watch the news in america you can tell they're scared about something (can't post racist comments here) Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Cpt Ryan on July 02, 2006, 09:35:15 PM @Phritz look man i aint even gonna add fuel to that, this thread is about the footy.
@redshirt, you are a bonehead lol :P i mean what does soccer even mean? lol, we call it football, because its played with a ball and you (mostly) use your feet. Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Lt.Cdr.White on July 02, 2006, 09:43:23 PM Soccer is a strange abbreviation of "Association Football" if I remember it right.
I believe the word was used to differentiate from other football-like games in the early times after the rules for football as we know it now were written down. The name Association Football is still around, for example in "FIFA". FIFA = Fédération Internationale de Football Association Edit: Yep, I was right. Here's an excerpt from the Wikipedia article: Quote The rules of football were codified in England by the Football Association in 1863, and the name association football was coined to distinguish the game from the other forms of football played at the time, specifically rugby football. The term soccer first appeared in the 1880s as a slang abbreviation of Association football, often credited to Charles Wreford-Brown.[18] Today the sport is known by a number of names throughout the English-speaking world, the most common being football and soccer. The term used depends largely on the need to differentiate the sport from other codes of football followed in a community. Football is the term used by FIFA, the sport's world governing body, and the International Olympic Committee. For more details of naming throughout the world, please refer to the main articles above. Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Cpt Ryan on July 02, 2006, 09:45:44 PM Quote FIFA = Fédération Internationale de Football Association lol and even they call it football, and in the football world their word is god. First, if you're trying to insult us, bad try, because none of us care what you wackos in Europe think. If you're trying to insult our soccer team, just look at your "NFL Europe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_Europe)". Compared to the original NFL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL), you're a pathetic joke, almost a mockery. Also, the NBA comptes every year, which means we get trophies faster. Plus, since its all in the US (with a few notable exceptions in Canada) basketball is much less likely to start an international war (which, if my memory serves me, has happened on at least one occasion in soccer). The entire nature of American sports differ from Europe in the fact that ours is simply more organized. We work of a schedule and follow it like clockwork. Oh, and we dont care how many people watch the sports events, what we care about is that the superbowl matters to us in fact and tradition, while the world cup has no bearing on us whatsoever. Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Lt.Cdr.White on July 02, 2006, 10:32:36 PM You produce a lot of hot air, indeed.
The difference between America and Europe is that Amercia always feels to be in some kind of competition. Why? I thought isolationism was outdated... We love football, you love your sports. Every culture has it's tradition and there is no need that everyone has to like the same things. So calm down, if possible. ;) And if I wanted to participate in the competion, I would just quote another Wikipedia article: Quote German Football Association The national association is the DFB (Deutscher Fußball-Bund or German Football Association) headquartered in Frankfurt. The DFB was founded in 1901 in Leipzig, by the representatives of 86 clubs. Today, the association has some 26,000 member clubs which field 170,000 teams with over 2 million active players: these numbers include 870,000 female members and 8,600 female teams. The DFB is the world's largest sports federation with over six million members. So what? Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: RedShirt on July 02, 2006, 11:58:40 PM Wow. You actually care? Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: -=B!G=-The Black Baron on July 05, 2006, 02:04:27 AM Heh I was hoping for the penalties, it would be more dramatic that way :D
A very even game tho, both teams could have won it :) Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Cpt Ryan on July 05, 2006, 02:18:26 AM aye it was a cracking game. took a couple of good goals to settle it. Although the scoreline was quite harsh on the germans.
@redshirt, your still doing it, STFU & stop spamming. If your that worried about your postcount then go spam up the stupid hoedown thread. Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Phritz on July 08, 2006, 04:55:42 PM ROFLMAO red shirt, I think your referring to the winter of 1914 when on christmas, both sides STOPPED fighting to play a game of footie. and I do hope you know what war im talking about... And I do think that more people care about Football (how bout 1 billion people watch the world cup live, i remember that the population of the USA is slightly below 300 million) than "American Football"(just to make it not sound like a rugby ripoff)
And its not American sports differing from european sports, its american sports differing from the rest of the world... and can you please explain to me the what you mean with "ours is simply more organized. We work of a schedule and follow it like clockwork. " ON TOPIC and i'm not disappointed in germany, despite being the worst german team ever(its true) they have kept germanys record of going to all semi-finals except on 3 occasions. lol at least for consolation (unless henry scores 3 goals) Klose will win the Golden Boot (and even if Henry is gonna score Klose has the chance to score more in the 3rd place match) TONIGHT GERMANY VS PORTUGAL, WATCH lol Title: Soccer World Championship Post by: Cpt Ryan on July 10, 2006, 03:10:10 PM congrats, to Italy. they did very well despite the controversy surrounding them before the tournament.
