What kind of A2 player are you?

try to be balanced, but it depends on how the individual game goes really. if i'm getting smashed, i go all offensive to try and knock out an opponants shipyards/key research stations, but if my opponant needs to catch up in terms of tech level (AI controlled player), i'd go defensive, and build up resources etc, etc...

As Ryan said it depends who your opponent is and how is he playing  

I like to rush, just build alot of k'tinga's and Bop and attack!!!

In high ress games i always try the whole capacity of the current race. Combinations of all kinds..depends on what races my opponents have.

Feds: Working with defiants and antimatter mines

Klings: Always on Que´rals

Cardassians: Always on Galors

Borg: First on Assimilators and during game on Diamond with Ultrithium boost.

Romulans: Always on Venators

8472: The most exciting race in a2..there are much ablities. I prefer a cruiser rush with special weapon. Sometimes Destroyers only with two mothers...but thats boring and sometimes i try to go on fluid gate (is it called like this in english?) and then on sentinals...they have a **** fire power..later on warships and behemoth with behemoth-jump into the enemies base.

It was hard to read what you said, but what I could decipher was worth a laugh!

lol that was bad was'nt it, i blame beer, a bad keyboard signal (low batterys) & me not reading it! :P

I suppose i start out building my resource base, then my base defenses (turrets & starships) then i build a few outposts on top of the turrets or space docks if i'm the feds. then i build a raiding force to harass my opponent, and 3-4 assault groups of heavy ships. (depending on how much trouble i've gotten myself into)

What type of player am I? I am whatever works against my opponent, I adjust to his/her techniques and then either develop new techniques on the fly or use old tried&true to win. Turrets? What are turrets? I don't use turrets a lot, mainly because they aren't as capable as ships.

I guess, I'm a very defensive player (usually, at least when playing the AI).  I love the feeling of the enemies (usually 3 or 4 hard Borg) coming at me with almost a hundred cubes (yes, it does get that bad sometimes!) and my forces being able to wipe the floor with them without any losses!  One game when I was the Romulans, I held out against them for something like 4 hours without a single loss.  In fact, during that game, my Sabotage stations (I build 2 of them) had a total of around 225 kills, every one of them was either a cube or a tactical cube.

i find that hard to belive that you lost nothing...

LOL!  You'd be suprised how effective a defensive strategy can be when you've practiced for a while.  And besides, when you have a couple hundred ships guarding your side of the wormhole, it's gonna be pretty hard for the Borg to get in... ;)  

Oh, you never said it was that map. Thats impossibly easy to defend (unless you're the AI of course :D).  Eufnoc thats not that hard to believe, once I had about 12~20ish ships, and I kept taking on waves after continous waves, and killed around 200 or so enemies, without loosing one ship.

Actually, It's a map I made, not Nirvana2 or Challenger.

N2 then yeah, i assumed you meant a decent map.

Mostly defensive. When my small offensive fleet manages to damage the opponent considerably, I move in all my defensive fleets to the offensive..

It was a map I made called Divided.  And I have done the exact same thing on a "decent" map, too.  I held off two hard Klingons with a blockade at The Sentinals, without losing any ships.  On my defence, anyway.

Oh wait, is this thread for A2 or FO..

..because if its A2...You just muster the biggest fleet you can make, warp it into the enemy's base.. and stare at beautiful 2001 explosion effects..

regardless of who or what im against i always get my turrets up and running for my opositions attacks.

i tend not to do any scouting until i have a ship capable of defending itself.

my research into upgraded shields is again a priority.

overall i am a very defencive and will continue to protect until the opositions attacks are being repeled with ease. then after a big strike against me i attack while the oposition is low on ships.

it doesnt always work because i usually take on 3 hard AI all against me and can be difficult knowing when to attack.

lol, same here.  I hated A2, until I installed Fleet Ops anyway.

I actually, don't like winning that much.  The AI is alot more fun while it's alive. :lol:  

I try to keep as defensive as possible, usually doing a mass of turrets in two areas, creating a gauntlet at best. Other than that... I also typically build turrets as much as I can when I have the resources to cause trouble to those who by pass my frontier turrets and ships....

So, I'm mostly a very defensive one...
but not with hundreds of Turrets and Ships guarding my base...
I just use some turrets, good ships combinations in groups of up to 4 or 5 and let them patrol through my area of Space...

I've been using Scouts as some Kind of prewarning system so I can adjust my defences for nearly every Situation...

I place scanners out in space with a ring of turrets around them. make my opponent waste time taking out all those turrets, and does some damage to his fleet too. cloaked ships can be a b****.

lol, no kidding.  Esspesially since scouts don't have the Tachyon Detection Grid anymore. :(

As a player of AII. How can i put this... I AM A COWARD! I mostly just build a (hopefully) unbreechable defence and generally hold down the fort while i build up resources.

When i do (finally) go on the offensive, i am very goal-centred. I will send fleets into the enemy base on do-or-die missions. My first one is usually destroy all enemy construction ships and starbases, then the next suicide team goes for shipyards. When those are gone, its just a case of mopping up what's left (more than once i've spent half-an-hour flooding the map with patrolling ships trying to find that last survivor).

I'm also a big fan of taking enemy technology. Since i play the borg alot, this is quite easy to accomplish. I'll send out squads of assimilators to capture enemy construction ships and then escort them back to base. When against me, never send any poorly guarded construction ships away from your base, as they may be mugged by some Borg.

However, since i've never actually played against a human before :sweatdrop: i somewhat doubt i'd be able to do any of the above before i got minced, so in a multi i'd be the one in the corner praying i'm not noticed by the big boys, or even better, making some freinds (The pen always was mightier than the sword :lol:).

 

In A2 I prefer building up a few fleet's for defense. When I've out researched ships I'll send in my weaker defense fleet to probe the enemy. Do as much damage as i can and don't bother wasting time on repairing them, they either survive or don't.

As for the Federation - Prefered tactic is a Galaxy class with two Akira and two Defiant escort's on resource attack runs. If I'm feeling particualrly mean, I'll chuck in a scout ship with some anti-cloakness.

Klingon - Vor'Cha's and BoP's are usually all I need, espeically with a full fleet of poleron torpedoes...that base going bye bye!

Romulans - Raptor and Griffin combined with their special weapons is a win for me, sacrifice the GRiffin but activate it's special weapon in the base. If I'm feeling particularly nasty, I'll chuck in a scout ship to get that extra bit of range.

I rarely play with the other 3 races and forget their tactics.

I'm very defensive on A2, I'm making turrets and technology, no ships...hardly. When I finally do attack I use several full fleets of ships usually 1-0 on the quick keys are filled before I even move them.

When I use the Romulans (one of my favs) I make many fleets that surround the enemy base just outside sensor range. i'll have some behind planets, others in nebulas and latinum clouds. When the attack is ready i do the same as above, target bases and construction ships first, turrets and defensive structures second. once all that is gone i just hit the K key and let them wander about the base slaying at will. Converging on the enemies from all sides often catches a weak point. Most people defend their bases at some points more then others, so when you attack from all directions they can't organize a fleet to defend one area.

My abilities don't usually include mass use of the special weapons. I plan out my battles and mark points of intrest in their bases, weak spots, or perticularly heavily defended areas. Focused fire from 10 fleets of starships can take out anything.

What I used to love to do before I got fleet ops was to make 10 fleets of mining frieghters, fill them all with Latinum. Charge them into an enemy base and be building the main capital ships (such as D'Deridex or Soverigns) as soon as I send them the order to leave my base. Once the yellow fireworks are done, the capital ships swoop in and clean up ;) :D

turrets are easily destroyed with teh fleets that you produce. only those **** noxter turrets are very good and those intrepids with that lighting look like a norway class lol

Produce 6 Bops from start as fast as possible and use them to harass the enemy while gathering and building

with cloak they come in useful just keep killing the mining ship and running Cavalry runs  B)

with feds its different alot more defensive and turrets

and with romulans alot more about stealth and gathering resources not letting them know where i am

borg ah the borg i used to love playing as them until one day i realised how under powered they are and the romulans have that bug in one of those multi ships the ones that have all the varients * havent played in a while * the frigate one had a weapon that did more damage than it was supposed to

any way borg just build assimilators and just hope to defend long enough for cubes and transwarp then its fun

The borg aren't underpowered if you know how to play them, you need to use intercepters to stop the enemy from gathering resources and assimilate (board and take over, use holding beams, or auto assim. weapon) ships and either use them for suicide runs on enemy mining ships that are defended, weaking the defense, swoop in with a cube and finish the job. Or use them for reasources by decommisioning them. Direct assault on borg bases hardly works anyway, so for some reason people leave me alone...(perhaps it's the 500 or so turrets ;) :lol:)

no they are underpowered its a fact even if u play well

for example i used to be a great borg player could beat any ammount of Hard AI's

but in MP romulans could beat me because of the fact they cost too much and dont do as much damage as they should

Possibly, they should be stronger your right, I've never played online with FO so I wouldn't know. They also do cost a lot...I've just never had trouble beating the AI with them. I wasn't here a year ago so I wouldn't know :P but your probably right, thank you for bringing that to my attention, I'll make sure I don't play the borg when I finally do play online. ^_^

best online is klingons
cause u get the advantage from the get go with Cloaked Bops they rape so much add ktingas and kvorts and uve got urself a dirty fleet in under 10mins that can **** pretty much anything

Usually playing rom I'll make up 3 – 5 more scouts, cloak them and send them out to explore. I'll also have a cloaked warparty of 3 Rhienns and a pair of Leahvals. If playing against the AI I use them to kill any explorers before they see my base. I'm especially interested in how fast the enemy team expands their resource gathering compared to my own, and resources it would be hard for them to get to. If I'm playing against... really anything but the Klingons I'll send a suicide task force to take out their tech structures as soon as I build my first Warbird yard. In the time it takes them to rebuild I'll already have an attack fleet ready to go. If they are the Klingons, or sometimes the Borg depending on how advanced they are I'll  wait until I can take a large force to their mining operations and knock them down one by one until I get to the main base.  

I prefer to castle. Strong but not "Hitler's Atlantic Wall" defenses that are the max I can support while still building up a good offensive force. I believe I've discussed how I do offensives before...

The thing is that it is so much esier to just build turrets and they look so nice and neet and intimidating.

the best defence is a good offence. build lots of ships!

I try for a Balanced Fleet that is moderatly powerful, but used defensivly.

My Method to keep things easy is:

Fleet 1: Warships
Fleet 2: Warships
Fleet 3: Warships
Fleet 4: Warships
Fleet 5: Repair Ships (Captured Warships if Repair Ships are not available)
Fleet 6: Fleet Flagship
Fleet 7: Vessels that are derelict and cannot be salvaged
Fleet 8: All Mining Freighters
Fleet 9: 16 Venture Class
Fleet 0: All Construction Ships

Send Fleet 9 on a constant Explore Task for scout the map, Fleets 8 & 0 should be obvious. If a Vessel falls derelict and cannot be salvaged for some reason it gets stuck in Fleet 7 and forgotten. Fleet 4 is left to guard the Base, Fleet 3 is also used to help protect my allies base. When I go to attack the Enemy, I send Fleets 1,2,3,5 and 6 in for and attack at the same time from different Angles and get Fleet 1 to destroy the Starbase and the Rest of the Fleets to go for the Turrets and Shipyards, then leave the rest of the ships to choose their own targets while commanding only the Flagship (Fleet 6). All System upgrades are usually done before attacking.

I also make good use of any type of Turret in key locations, such as anywhere in the base that is a distance from the Starbase or constant Ship Cover, Mainly Mining Stations.

I always play as Feds and I'm always defensive till my allies go in and start attacking then I slowly cut off my enemie's supplies and corner him to one spot then I send in a fleet to clean them up.  Never played online so not sure how it would work but having 200 turrents plus 50 ships does help defend my base hehe.

to be honest online no turret would ever work vs any of us online they just die too quick

I luuuuuuuurrrrrvvvvvv turrets, rings upon rings of photon and phaser turrets. (in unmodded or future 1.0) then I can leave my base unattended as I launch my strikes later into the game.

Finding it a lot harder to do in FO  :rolleyes:  being as turrets are so much more expensive and take longer to build. Oh well, just means adjustment in strategy.  

I like to work with my clan mate and rape our opponent. On Fleet opps John doe and I will split the responsibilities up. one guys protect our bases and resources and the other guy spend evey scent to go beat the the crapt out of our enimies resources. We find this a very useful tatic but if anyone see a flaw in it plz let me now so I can fix it

Assaulting resources is a fairly effective technique... The problem though, such as what I do, is when your foe puts Sensor posts near where the resources are at. They can see you coming and going, and dispatch ships to intercept you, or harass you on the way out...

still, once you start attacking theirs resources and keep pressure on your enemy, you got the upper hand, since you don't have to worry about your base as much, couse he has his ships tied into defence.

at that point its time to have 3 or 4 shipyards mass building your fleets

a nice tip is to group ur ship yards using Ctrl + a number and then the ships from that yard automatically get assigned to fleets minimizing the need to micro too much and making sure u always have ships at the press of a button increasing response time

I have pathetic microing skills. I group my ships into capital assault fleet, large fleet of Shrikes, Leavahls, and others, and large fleet of assorted ships to kill anyone else's large fleet of assorted ships. Pretty much capital, destroyer, and cruiser superiority fleets, and that's it.

I've found that if I make two fleets that are mostly smaller destroyers, frigates, and cruisers, and one or two capitol ships, and have them take out an enemy starbase, then just hit "k" for kill, It's highly effective.

 Just send them in past the enemy defensive perimeter and make sure you have them on low autonomy so they don't peel off to take out turrets or any enemy groups moving in.

thats too hard. i prefer playing against The Black Baron and Hypercube as they are a bit easier then AI Easy
