I like the miranda and centaur ( same basic design), The constallation and cheyenne (same design concept).

for the new released designs (akira defiant etc etc) i like the sabre

for me, i would say the Excelsior Lakota refit, TNG Excelsior, or Galaxy X.
on second thought, the Excelsior Lakota refit, definitely.

in the game i'm quite keen on the descent, it just looks cool and packs a punch too, but the best design would be the Galaxy - its got a half pipe between the warp nacelles!

I really like the concept of the intrepid and nova classes, they look nice. If it was a choice of which kind of ship to command I'd have to pick the defiant.

Title: Your Fav Federation Ship Class
Post by: Casper on September 01, 2005, 06:37:20 AM
The defiant kicked the Lakota's *** in that ds9 epsode. but i think that was more of a command/crew skill thing, rather than a design thing IMHO. but whatever.

The Galaxy X - Looks stylish and packs one helluva punch! Though, for real time line ships, I'd have to say the Prometheus comes in, I mean...wow!

oh, i'd pick the destroyer, because the borg might wait till all the big ships are gone before attacking the little helpless destroyers  :cloak:
or they might think the destroyer is no threat and let us go home with all our presents intact

No kidding. Besides, if I remember properly the Defiant was one of the last ships standing fighting that cube in First Contact. It was dodging lots of those tractor beam things, something that a larger ship most definitely cannot do. Between getting missed a lot and all that lovely ablative armor, it seems like a very nice place to be in the middle of a fleet engagement.

The excelsior is definitely the standard fleet cruiser unit, many more available to starfleet than the akiras, which are heavy assault cruisers anyway with that ridiculous torpedo loadout. Besides, excelsiors have gotten MUCH more screen time than akiras

Title: Your Fav Federation Ship Class
Post by: PREATOR DEFIANT on September 02, 2005, 01:07:24 AM
Heh, Excelsiors have had more screen time then any ship but the Consitution, Intrepid, Defiant, Galaxy, Sovern, and maybe the Miranda. Considering there was never a show or movie dedicated directly to an Excelsior, thats a good record.

In a startrek book (can't rember name) I read it had the story of the whole battle from the point of view of a ambassador class ship which says the defiant was heavily damaged and that the ambassador class had only stuffered a minior damge even though it was the only ship attacking a certain side of the cube and was taking heavy fire.

Also how much damage did the Enterprise take in that battle it wasn't even hit though admitedly it wasn't there that long.

Title: Your Fav Federation Ship Class
Post by: [TD]Roach on September 03, 2005, 11:05:51 AM
well i find the whole dodging phasers things a bit weird, i mean if it was a pulse phaser then i can understand it can dodge but phaser beams can't be dodged as they lock on the target and i don't see a defiand defeating an ambassador that quickly

Title: Your Fav Federation Ship Class
Post by: AdmarilRyan on September 03, 2005, 11:41:45 AM
exactly and if you include the fact that the borg use tractor beams as weapons the entire defiant would be ripped away rather than just a section! A sovereign would trash a defiant and in first contact the enterprise trashes a borg sphere single handedly the defiant could never do that.

Title: Your Fav Federation Ship Class
Post by: Casper on September 03, 2005, 12:13:34 PM
a computer lock-on isn't a... ...um, for lack of a better word deadlock. anyone who has seen a startrek battle knows that (on tv or in the movies atleast).

the best type of federation starship is the interepid as it is sooooo coool
followed closely by the nova class
voyager is the best federation ship and it could take the e-e and the defiant on its bill

lol how many times was voyager troubled or captured by the .... wait for it..... kazon
now you say it can take on & beat 2 of starfleets most powerful ships....

@admiralryan, there is a big difference between the sphere Ent-E faced & the ones in voyager. i think the 1 in first contact was more of a life boat, than a standalone vessel

Title: Your Fav Federation Ship Class
Post by: coolhandab on September 03, 2005, 04:16:28 PM
Yeah there's no way that was a standard sphere ... if a sphere can be defeated by 4 quantums (I think it was 4 anyway) then that cube should have been blasted into little pieces long before the EE ever got to Earth.

Actually I feel the need to respond to the Ambassador class thing ... those ships are only nominally more survivable than a standard excelsior (though with much better weapons) and in DS9 the Defiant rocked the Lakota, which is considerably more survivable than a stock Ambassador ... so in a fight between Ambassador and Defiant it would come down to who could knock out the other's weapons faster, and since the Defiant can surely take much more of a beating, especially from energy weapons, while dodging most of the torpedos that come its way ... I'm betting the Ambassador won't last too long.

There is a reason those things aren't in commission anymore after all.

Title: Your Fav Federation Ship Class
Post by: PREATOR DEFIANT on September 03, 2005, 04:56:03 PM
No the Lakota didn't win because she wasen't trying to destroy the Defiant, she was trying to disable her and not using all her weapons. And no she wasen't 'rocked'. The Lakota could take that overpowered little ship anyday.

Yes they are still in commission, where did you hear that?

The intrepid isn't the most powerfull ship, i can't believe it. It looked powerfull but that is mainly due to the alien tech

Title: Your Fav Federation Ship Class
Post by: Legacy on September 03, 2005, 07:42:23 PM
I really like the design of the Norway class ship followed by the Akira. One thing about the Intrepid though, and it seems to be the only ship to have it, Blue Alert. What is that?

Title: Your Fav Federation Ship Class
Post by: [TD]Roach on September 03, 2005, 08:39:07 PM
Blue alert (also code blue or condition blue) is an alert signal status on Starfleet starships and outposts which is called for in exceptional situations, ranging from environmental hazards to the crew, to docking and separation maneuvers and landing protocols, for ships with the capability.

In the event of an imminent environmental systems failure or disruption, blue alert is called in order to help affected personnel escape or safeguard their lives

it is from Memory Alpha database (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Blue_alert)

but i think there where more weird statuses besides blue, red, green and yellow. wasn't there a grey aswell? and ofcourse the omega one

Title: Your Fav Federation Ship Class
Post by: Optec on September 03, 2005, 09:00:54 PM
Yep, i think Grey was some kind of stealth mode in a Voyager episode..

Well i wonder what comes next. Condition Pink for the Captain's birtday?  ^_^

Title: Your Fav Federation Ship Class
Post by: [TD]Roach on September 03, 2005, 09:11:11 PM
i looked it up what grey was at the same site, it was when they ran out of deuterium and had to mine it at the demon planet. the status was something about the crew need to be very carefull with their resources but then again they had to do that the whole voyage... but pink alert. isn't that when pink panter have invaded a ship?

Title: Your Fav Federation Ship Class

A long range explorer ship is also 9/10 well armed as it is going far away from any reinforcements. Also an intrepid class was admiral ross' flag ship and was used by director slone so it can't be that bad. I personally would still take a sovereign.

i'd still like a lakota, oh, and they did try to destroy the defiant. if captain whatever her name was following the admirals orders. but i guess she might not have been.

In that episode the Lacota and the defiant didn't use their Quantum torpedos cause they didn't want to blow the other to pieces only to disable the other or force the other to withdraw. The Defiant lost 2 crewman the Lacota lost more than twenty. (apparently they didn't know the defiant had ablative armour when they engaged it.)

the e-e even found it hard to beat the sona

I'm sorry but I just don't believe that an Admiral would choose a small, weakly shielded ship for his flag. Maybe I missed something but I never remember that happening. I'm almost sure he was in a galaxy (or at least a bridge that looked like a galaxy bridge, because that's the only time we saw his ship I think, reference the advance on cardassia episodes)

Besides, an intrepid is NOT heavily armed, far from it. Two 2nd class photon tubes and type VII phaser arrays? That is barely enough to scratch the paint on most warships.

Title: Your Fav Federation Ship Class
Post by: coolhandab on September 04, 2005, 04:08:17 PM
Haha Riker found it hard to beat the Sona ... besides, they weren't trying to destroy them but to pacify them, neutralize the threat, whatever. It's like police using stun guns instead of shotguns, not nearly as effective, but more humane or something.

Black Baron: I agree...it depends on the operation. For frontal, battle-wing sized engagements, I'd choose either the Achillies-Class, Phalanx-Class or similar profile vessel (i.e. Prometheus-Class). For discretion in coping with matters pertaining to the Temporal Prime Directive / Temporal Cold War & Elite Force / Maquis-like "hit-&-run", dog-fighting, covert-op's missions...I'd ~ALWAYS~ pick the Xenon-Class version of the Defiant-Class.

the enterprise-A was a great ship for it's time, but just after it was refitted, it was due to be mothballed, what's the point of refitting a ship if you're just going to scrap it. (sorry for any mispelling, i'm tired and have a head ach)

Preis = price
Leistung = performance, work
Verhältnis = proportion, ratio

The full term is "Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis" meaning the proportion of price to performance.
My PONS translates Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis to "costeffectiveness".

He was referring to the fact that the Sabre gives you much bang-for-the-buck. ;)

Trekmania (http://www.trekmania.net/the_fleet/utopia/fleet/defiant.htm)
Memory-Alpha (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Defiant_class)

The three sites came out with 47, 50, and 40, respectively.

not to get too deeply in discussion about something pretty irrelevent, but about the page i put up: if it is in yellow writing, it is cannon source, i.e. it was confirmed in someway on an episode/movie  :sweatdrop:

Back to the thread... :omg:
I really like the Nova- and Canaveral- class vessels, although now in v3 the canaveral is being changed... will it earn the same respect it once held with me in v2...

Except I was referring to respect earned by usefulness and practicality, in the line of fire. Looking at pictures does nothing for my strategies.

How about we forget how it preforms for a minute.  What's your favorite class based on looks alone?

for me it would be the Lakota, New Orleans, or Ambassador classes.

you did mean cannon right?

canon looks: Akira
canon ship i would want to serve in: Defiant

uncanon looks: Hornet http://startrekaustralia.com/startrek/fede...ornet/index.htm (http://startrekaustralia.com/startrek/federation/hornet/index.htm)

To Casper:  Canon, noncanon, it really makes no diffrence exept to a few sticklers who hate ingenuity at work.  So yes, noncanon is acceptable.

To Cpt Ryan:  Ya, I always liked that design.  The Hornet/Corona (http://www.trekmania.net/the_fleet/utopia/classified/classifiedintro.htm) design looks like an intestellar hot-rod.

i guess non-cannon would be the Pathfinder class (sorry i don't know the link)

now ships i'd like to serve on

cannon= new orleans, or a Hoplite class ship (both are nice & not too big)

non-cannon= Pathfinder class (thast's the hard one)

the hornet is what i think the defiant should have looked like  :)   small powerfull yet still retaining those gracefull lines that charactorise fed ships  ;)

I think that the Defant is pretty graceful, but not even close to the Hornet/Corona...

To Casper:

Pathfinder (http://www.ussmiranda.com/ships/pathfinder.htm)
Pathfinder Refit (http://www.ussmiranda.com/ships/pathfinder2.htm)

the base gallery (http://www.ussmiranda.com/ships/)

It's the Longbow MRSF (Multi-Role Strike Fighter)

The only Longbow page I'm feeling up to searching the depths of the web for (http://www.tangofleet.net/simulations/pegasus/departments/flightdeck.htm)

----EDIT----

My avatar is some redshirt named Rayburn.  Never bothered to look up exactly who he was.

i like ships which look futuristic (compared to other starships), oviously the preminition (cant get much more futuristic), the incursion, pathfinder, phalanx, nova (you get the idea) classes, dominion and orion ships are pretty good too, and there are tons of amazing looking alien ships that only ever appear in 1 espisode (some of the voyager ones especial good too), though these might seem better because i got fed up of just seeing the enterprise (all of them), DS9, defient, and voyager.
