Title: Shipyards
Post by: Cmd.Paul on October 31, 2004, 07:05:03 PM
My humble opinion is that there are to much shipyards , the romulans have to build 4 different shipyards, i think it should be maxed out to 2 since that would be better to oversee

I think everything should be warpinable like in shows and have a dry dock for repair.

I'm with the Praetor, make a single structure like the Federation Spacedock, which can warp in better ships as you research them, and provides repair facities. Perhaps also a smaller structure that provides only repair and is much cheaper than the spacedock.

is not that what the repair ships are for?

Dry dock is faster and gives crew, plus shields the damage vessel during an attack I believe.

I think it's ok as it is :) , I like that different races have different number of shipyards, adds to the diversity I think :)

yep, a "usual" race has 2 shipyards but some races differ from that scheme and that helps to add an unique tech tree element

I think the spacedock should be made able to repair ships...not just build them....its basically its own independent starbase...that way if a ship has been in a battle...and needs to be repaired out in the field...it can be..the base can defend itself from all kinds of hostile enemies as well.

I agree with Worf, I've never understood why the stardock doesn't repair ships. In the ST universe that's its main job, not building, after all.

or you could make a repair ship, and transport crew from the station.

yea..all races have repair ships.....repair ships are good when a ship has damaged engines and can't get to a repair dock...but having Spacedock able to repair ships would be like having a ship yard with defenses out in deep space...i've equipped my space docks with better weapons...better shields and the ability to repair

urm... while that's pretty much accurate that each race (except the Borg) have repair ships in A2, in FleetOps B2, as far as Im aware, its just the Federation that has repair Ships.

While I do miss having repair ships while i'm romulans or some other race, I do quite like it that way it is, as the Feds typically have some of the weakest stations (starbase/platforms) the repair bot is an almost essential tool in their armory.

I think the only other race that could prob do with repair ships, would be the Romulans as their station's firepower is also pretty poor, but with platforms being so cheap to build compared to the other races, I dare not complain too loudly ;)

In reality no race had repair ships. One ship may beam an engineering crew to another to rig something up so they could limp back to starbase or just use a tractor beam. The use of a repair beam to fix a damaged ship is a fantasy at best anyway ;)

I was talkin from the shows standpoint, of course none of it's real, the idea is ludicris.

I don't know if the idea of a repair beam is that bad. It's more reasonable than the futuristic extendable armor that Admiral Janeway brought back in time to Voyager. Imagine if the beam just reinforces the shields and maybe replicates hull plating and armor? Basic stuff, maybe couldn't repair engines, but the concept is there.

Yeah, the engeans and all are crew fixes, its jsut the health/hull that the sip should repair, it makes sence.
